christyalmeth Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 I will be starting my Top 20 list, for today It's 15-20 Let's start off with some honorable mentions, in no particular order: Lemon - N.E.R.D ft. Rihanna 2017 was another great Year for Rihanna, between her Fenty Beauty and her features she had an amazing year. However, I thought Rihanna's other features were better. Let's be honest the only reason we like this song is for the Beat and Rihanna Rapping. NERD's rap goes on for too long and Rihanna's should've been a bit longer. It left me wanting more I think the song is a bop, but doesn't merit Top 20 Magnolia - Playboi Carti Carti was one of the breakout rappers in 2017 and this song started his, well, underwhelming year. After this song he didn't really do much besides a Lana feature and a couple others. However this song still goes off and the beat is infectious! It's a great song to drive to and listen to in the club. IMO there were better rap songs of 2017 than this, but still merits a mention. Woman - Kesha Kesha had a long awaited comeback and this song proved she was back and better than ever. This song was infectious from the second I listened to it. Even now the song still has that punch. I love the song, but I found other songs to like from the year more. Chained to the Rhythm - Katy Perry Katy had an underwhelming 2017 and an album I thought was going to be better than it actually was. However I really liked this as a single and thought it was good politics mixed with a bop. It doesn't really beat me over the head, and is a song first then commentary. IMO This is the best Purposeful Pop song that actually had that label for the Witness era. Young Dumb & Broke - Khalid Khalid was another breakout rapper and R&B hybrid star from this year. I really love this song and thinks it speaks for the youth. I like his voice and had one of the best albums too. That being said I wanted more from the song and thought it could've expanded on the theme more.
christyalmeth Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 (edited) #20 Stay - Zedd ft. Alessia Cara We're starting out with a bang! This song was played on the radio so much this year and for good reason. Personally I'm not a Zedd fan, I think his beats all sound somewhat the same. However I really think Stay makes you "stay" because of how infectious the beat is. I love Alessia Cara's voice on this track too. She had a good year and I think this song cements her as a new girl on the come up. I love the production and the climax of the song, it's great for replaying. A song you can't get enough of! I've heard people compare this to the Chainsmokers Closer, but not at all do I get that vibe. I think Alessia is a better vocalist and can hold the song better than Halsey. Alessia has a great voice and can't wait to see what she has in store for 2018! Edited December 15, 2017 by christyalmeth
christyalmeth Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 #19 Sorry Not Sorry - Demi Lovato This year had Demi being, finally imo, the star she should've been. Throughout Demi's career, even in Disney, she has always played second fiddle to Miley and Selena. She came out with a bang and Sorry Not Sorry showed that everyone who didn't treat her on the same wave length as Miley and Selena were so wrong. She has been overlooked her whole career and this song really gave her a subtle hit. I thought this was the perfect song to start off her new era. The production is great, telling the girls she glowed up and she's coming for their careers. the lyrics might be cringey but Demi effortlessly belts those high notes and being sexy without over doing it. A great song
christyalmeth Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 #18 Hills - Kim Petras ft. Baby E Thanks to @KiiPopHunty I was exposed to this bop, I love the beat, the different sounding voice of Kim, the production. Everything really. Kim is like a Charli and druggie Ariana. This song is such a bop and a must listen, even the rap isn't that bad. For a song about Drugs it really is infectious
theblackestday Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Screaming @ you using the meme banner Stay and Lemon are bops Sorry Not Sorry is cute too

christyalmeth Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 #17 Feels - Calvin Harris ft. Pharrell, Katy Perry & Big Sean IMO this was one of the best songs of the summer, the vibes and aesthetic screamed Summer. Every pool party had this song playing. The features are weird to me at first I never thought a song with Pharrell, Katy and Sean would work. Surprisingly it really does work. It it is such a fun song to go to the beach and just hang by the pool. It is just a feel good song with good verses from A-List entertainment. It is a funky bop
christyalmeth Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 #16 Boys - Charli XCX I was busy thinkin bout Boys *Mario coin sound* I love this song. The beat is so good and it's so catchy, I love Charli's voice on this track too. It's just a bop with great production that I can't stop listening to. It creates that daydreaming atmosphere so well.
christyalmeth Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 #15 Strangers - Halsey ft. Lauren Jauregui I'm not a Halsey fan, but I really like this track. Halsey doesn't over sing on this track and sounds good. Her voice and Lauren's is a great melody and I like the theme of the song. Lauren's vocals are nice on this song raspy and a few adlibs that melt nicely into Halsey singing again. I think this song is better than Bad At Love personally because of how hard it is on the ears. This song is nice and mellow and sounds like butter. IMO if Halsey did more of this I would like her more.
