She can never catch a break. Well, I truly liked "Bad Things" :P camila's discog is tolerable so far but bad things just sucks. :( avicii – without you (featuring sandro cavazza) back in 2013, when avicii was a big thing in the US and had one of the biggest hits this decade in the world ("wake me up"), I was totally not into it. it was an era of brostep-ish progressive house from scandinavia making its way from there to europe, from europe to the rest of the world. swedish house mafia also happened with "don't you worry child", which peaked at #6 on the american billboard hot 100 in september 2013, and went three-times platinum in the US. ironically, that was their last single, as they had announced they would be disbanding at the end of march in the same year. Z100 had played the everloving sh*t out of those songs, and back in 2013, I basically only had radio as my source of music consumption because I didn't have an allowance. for me, it was either that, or ripping MP3s from MP3skull onto my ipod touch. and I wasn't exactly tech-savvy at the time. so I had went to radio. on Z100, it didn't help that when scandi prog house managed to cross over to north america, I basically was forced to hear those songs quite a few times per day, more than I wanted to. now, it's the year 2017. four years after the great swedish prog house craze. and I guess now is the perfect time for me to actually get into the music. the song is basically peak avicii. simple lyrics about… breaking up? still not sure what the lyrics are about. anyway, the vocals are just good enough for the hook, which ends with a classic avicii house drop, where the synth absolutely slaps you in the ear and carries a nice melody (if you're using actual earphones and not the bass machines that apple tries to pass off as earphones, you'll know what I'm talking about). the drop is perfect for the club or an EDM festival. the chords are simple. everything about this song is great. and it just SLAPS. like, it's a feeling. not sure how else to explain it tbh. this is probably avicii's best single. if only this song were the one becoming avicii's signature song back in 2013. sigh. stormzy – big for your boots so my blurb about this track is gonna be shorter than most, but only because I'm trying to be a bit more laconic after that previous entry, lol. first of all, let's talk about that intro. the intro to this song alone sounds like an event in and of itself; those dramatic orchestral hits are quite awesome. then there's the beat. the beat sounds seriously f*cking cool, and I mean that unironically. it easily sets the mood for the track. it easily makes anyone feel like a badass. the beat is uneasy and skittish, and it sounds GREAT at doing that. then there's stormzy's flow and lyrics. everything about this part is dead great. he spits like he wants something… as if he wants something and is going to get it. he spits like his life depends on it. this single goes f*cking hard, and it deserves to be the hit that it was in the UK. it's a shame that his following here in the US is so miniscule; he makes awesome music that blows some american rappers out of the water. eminem – walk on water (featuring beyoncé) BITCH I WROTE "STAN" jason derulo – swalla (featuring nicki minaj, ty dolla sign) what the hell is a "swalla" anyway? it's hard to listen to a jason derulo song these days without cringing and hoping he departed from the whole club pop rap schtick he's been on for years now. "swalla" only makes this harder. it's a really cheap-sounding song with a melody sounding like something from a TV show for little kids or something from an ice cream truck (especially that post-hook bit). the weird bouncy "bass" thing as the instrumental reeks of white boy dancehall music. i mean, that's kind of what the song is. the whole rhythm is literally peak faux-dancehall. there's that weird organ sound that comes shortly after the main part of the hook, and it really doesn't sound good… like, at all. and the lyrics are just bad, just like every jason derulo single since 2013. thinly veiled references to fellatio with a poor attempt at hiding it as something about drinking. i get that jason wanted to make it seem like he wasn't talking about beejes but ty dolla sign literally ruined all of that once his verse came in. something something "bad girls gon swalla-la-la". whoops. and is it just me or does jason derulo's vocal delivery literally sound like drake's "find your loving"? not sh*tting you. listen to "swalla" (not too much) and then listen to "find your loving".
prézli Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 LEAVE KING DERULO ALONE! WOW deserves it, tho.
World Eater Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 WOW was simply tragic, even Bey couldn't save it. Big for Your Boots though
Dom Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 yass at that avicii song, it's so beautiful. wow is trash.
Godele Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 I live for your blurbs. Swalla is one of those trashy bops for me.
Little Dark Age Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 good picks WoW is truly terrible here for the derulo lashings too didn't expect stormzy or avicii but those are nice tracks
theblackestday Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Ugh I DESPISE Swalla. WOW is also horrendeous obviously

"bad things"? what are "bad things", exactly? whipping? i guess MGK gives us a hint with the "scars on my back" line, but that still doesn't really … help. the mainstream music scene is so particularly weird about talking about unorthodox ways of achieving pleasure sexually, that they literally run around and get lost with what they even wanna talk about 90% of the time like in this song. i can only recall rihanna and madonna actually being upfront about it. the production is quite droning, to say the least. there isn't much going on asides from a FL studio demo loop of some soundcloud producer's profile. i guess it's supposed to sound "cool" or something. about "cool", it's literally the opposite of what MGK sounds like on this track. his verses are so… boring. everything about this song is straight boring. it's a song that tries to be cool and "sexual" and chill at the same time but it really falls flat on it. DRAG this trash song & T R A S H artists
alexanderao Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Agree with both of your worsts here. Swalla is dreadful, and it really does seem like Derulo's foremost skills now are writing terrible hooks and singing cringeworthily about sexual intercourse. Walk On Water was such a massive disappointment for me. Not engaging at all, with a really awkward chorus.
Kevin2803 Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Bad Things & Swalla weren't that bad, but i needed some time to get into them.
ATRL Moderator Unoriginal Posted December 18, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 Swalla was offensive to my ears. A deserved thrashing
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 I honestly like Swalla It has that cluster**** vibe that some kpop songs have.
