i should put it in my sig huh? also i’ve never done this before so i wasn’t sure if it’s something i should tell people or just post and let them maybe see idk :rip: but glad you’re here!

malibu IS very beginner PH lmfao that is a great comparison

DRAG jacky! drag him to hell!

i mean whiter now is my fav song but it’s not like that’s saying much :eli: it has sonic intrigue at least, something the other songs cannot offer. i love that STOMP of the beat when it picks up!

maybe pills’s chorus will grow on me!

whew maybe i will eventually like pills! someday!

i think gorgeous is also very-bottom-tier on rep but what i like about it is that it has that cutesy vibe that isn’t really anywhere else on the album, whereas KOMH is kind of just ... there :cupid:

All I'd say is just don't take the chorus so seriously and you might enjoy it more (although I actually like the composition of the chorus)

agree with Same Old Havana, NOachella and Malibu :clap3:

for Paris to be a disappointment I would've had to have expected something good/tolerable in the first place so :cm:

Melodrama didn't deserve that but we've already discussed this.

Pills has no right being on there whatsoever :doc:

to be fair it’s pretty much just the chorus of “pills,” the verses and druggy breakdown can stay :clap3:

40. DRAKE - 'MORE LIFE'

200x200-000000-80-0-0.jpg

i don't love this "playlist"—it's thanksgiving-level bloated—but it's got insane highs, so it's in my top 40. i couldn't turn off songs like "blem," "teenage fever," and "keep it together" when the album dropped. this is the album that made me start paying attention to drake—i didn't love views (though, retrospectively, it's better than i thought) and never really listened to anything before that.

favorites: get it together, blem, madiba riddim, free smoke, teenage fever — unfavorites: KMT

39. CIGARETTES AFTER SEX - 'CIGARETTES AFTER SEX'

200x0w.jpg

cigarettes after sex's first EP features some of their best songs. with this album, they gave it their best shot, but nothing here comes close to the quiet, sexed-up euphoria of "nothing's gonna hurt you baby," the wistfulness of "dreaming of you," the bright sorrow of "i'm a firefighter." greg gonzalez sings at a whisper, like he's recording in a library, and the effect is wonderful: it floats over the ambient instrumentals, the soft tambourines and airy guitars, feels like a hug. the album is cohesive to a fault: some of the songs—like "sunsetz" and "apocalypse"—sound nearly identical. the highlights come when the band steps out of their zone: the snappy percussion of "flash," the minor chords of "each time you fall in love," the nostalgic feel of "john wayne." (lady gaga who?) the only real misstep is "young & dumb," on which gonzalez becomes uncharacteristically sardonic: "i know full well that you are the patron saint of sucking c*ck," he says, bizarrely. it feels porny; it breaks the romantic character they have established.

favorites: john wayne, flash, each time you fall in love, opera house — unfavorites: young & dumb

38. SOFI DE LA TORRE - 'ANOTHER. NOT ME. I'M DONE.'

200x200-000000-80-0-0.jpg

sofi de la torre first caught my attention with "give up at 2," an older single. she claims to make "pop done right," a somewhat-pretentious-sounding claim that produces results not far from the modern R&B-leaning indie pop landscape. her production is stunning, showcased on songs like "old you" and "cocktails & emotions." the latter features one of the most catchy hooks of the year: "push and pull and push and pull all day," she sings on the chorus, right before an epic flood of low-end. my ultimate favorite is "u can't do easy (demo 001)"; it doesn't sound any more demo-y than the other songs here, but it feels rawer in delivery, more urgent emotionally. "i can't shake it off for the life of me," she sings over wavering filtered synths; "swear to god." listening, i believe it.

favorites: u can't do easy, old you, cocktails & emotions — unfavorites: nike grey

37. FATHER JOHN MISTY - 'PURE COMEDY'

200x200-000000-80-0-0.jpg

father john misty's got a lovely voice and a very interesting political/philosophical pretentiousness that is somehow totally endearing, even though, if coming from anyone else, it would drive me nuts. i pre-ordered the vinyl and regrettably haven't spent as much time with it as i should have. that being said, i do think it's a well-constructed album, even if johnny can't quite pull off a twelve-minute song the way someone like the war on drugs could. it doesn't top honeybear for me, but that doesn't mean it isn't good.

favorites: ballad of the dying man, real love baby, birdie — unfavorites: the ones that overstay their welcome

36. ALT-J - 'RELAXER'

200x200-000000-80-0-0.jpg

i've had a very interesting love-hate relationship with alt-j over the past few years; i go through phases of thinking they're brilliant and phases of thinking they're just ****ing weird. fortunately, nothing on relaxer has rubbed me the wrong way, at least in terms of being too-cool-for-school ("hit me like that snare" is god-awful, but not because it's high art, just because it's obnoxious). "adeline" is stunning; "last year" is beautifully placid; "3ww" and "in cold blood" are engaging and frenetic.

favorites: adeline, last year — unfavorites: hit me like that snare

She doesn't really have that much material, just an EP and a few singles.

On My Mind is the most similar to anything on More Life.
