ultraviolence.xx Posted January 1, 2018 Author Posted January 1, 2018 OK fatties i'm starting my songs TODAY!
ultraviolence.xx Posted January 2, 2018 Author Posted January 2, 2018 i'm sorry everyone (aka @Pink Matter) i had a crisis about my song placements i will update today i s2g
ultraviolence.xx Posted January 3, 2018 Author Posted January 3, 2018 LET'S GET STARTED! UPDATE #1 i've got 111 songs, which is a sh!t-ton of songs, so i'm going to be updating in batches of 13 for 7 days, which leaves a top 20 to be posted in 3-4 days. for the first 91 songs, i'm giving myself a one-sentence limit; the top 20 will be more verbose. – – – 111. CAMILA CABELLO - "NEVER BE THE SAME" i'm an OCH, and i wanted all her music to be horrible, but aside from the tragic pronunciation of "heroin" here (which i don't listen to as i use the radio edit exclusively), this is camila's best released song; it came at the exact time i needed it, and though it rehashes the somewhat tired your-love-is-my-drug theme, it does so in an affecting way. – – – 110. THE CHAINSMOKERS - "YOUNG" the drop of this song makes me emotional, and don't ask me why, because i don't know—nostalgia, maybe? – – – 109. HARRY STYLES - "SIGN OF THE TIMES" if you had told me a year ago that harry styles's first solo single would sound like lana del rey's "black beauty" and have an absolutely killer pre-chorus, i would not have believed you; alas, we are here, and both of those things are true. – – – 108. KATHERYN ELIZABÉTH HUDSON - "BON APPÉTIT" a slow-burning dark pop gem with some face-flaming lyrics. – – – 107. TAYLOR SWIFT - "I DID SOMETHING BAD" this gives me 2008 xtina vibes and i love it, especially when tay-tay says potty words. – – – 106. LONDON GRAMMAR - "CONTROL" this is farther into the electronic spectrum than i expected london grammar to go, but i'm in love. – – – 105. CIGARETTES AFTER SEX - "EACH TIME YOU FALL IN LOVE" this makes me think, without fail, of driving down a highway in the rain, and i don't have any idea why. – – – 104. FLEET FOXES - "THIRD OF MAY / ŌDAIGAHARA" i love the tonal shift halfway through this bad boy; i remember the first time i heard it, the exact seat i was sitting in one of my classes. – – – 103. BIG THIEF - "MYTHOLOGICAL BEAUTY" (i tried to keep a pretty small assortment of songs per artist; big thief definitely broke the rules.) this song tells the story of lead singer adrienne lenker's close encounter with death as a child, and it's as emotionally affecting and sonically pleasing as you expect. – – – 102. DUA LIPA - "GENESIS" whew, dua christa, convert me! – – – 101. DEMI LOVATO - "DADDY ISSUES" the hook on this song is one of the most addictive things i've ever heard, particularly in the first chorus, where the instruments completely drop out and leave room for demi's powerhouse vocals. – – – 100. SZA - "GARDEN (SAY IT LIKE DAT)" one of many highlights on ctrl, "garden" delineates the real fear of your lover not liking you for who you are. – – – 99. LONDON GRAMMAR - "EVERYONE ELSE" i love this song for many reasons: for one, it's just flat-out engaging sonically, with a catchy chord progression in the chorus, unique pizzicato strings threaded throughout the song, the lovely chill beat that kicks in at the chorus, and that insanely long note she holds out at the beginning of the bridge; for two, it tells an imagery-laced story of being blinded by love, unable to see the darkness underneath until you're looking back later.

ultraviolence.xx Posted January 4, 2018 Author Posted January 4, 2018 UPDATE #2 i've got 111 songs, which is a sh!t-ton of songs, so i'm going to be updating in batches of 13 for 7 days, which leaves a top 20 to be posted in 3-4 days. for the first 91 songs, i'm giving myself a one-sentence limit; the top 20 will be more verbose. – – – 98. BANKS - "UNDERDOG" this disappointed me at first, but then it warmed up on me and i haven't looked back since—i love those ferocious roars. – – – 97. CAMILA CABELLO - "SCAR TISSUE" this stupid bitch is a stupid ass bitch for scrapping this song. – – – 96. HALSEY - "NEEDED ME" i loved this song when it peaked at #7 in 2016 and i love it now! – – – 95. MIGOS/CARDI B/NEKCI MENIJ - "MOTORSPORT" i. know. every. word. of. this. song. much. to. my. personal. chagrin. – – – 94. KELLY CLARKSON - "LOVE SO SOFT" didn't like it at first but once i warmed up to it i've loved it—soulful and fun! – – – 93. SOFI DE LA TORRE - "OLD YOU" this song gets me in my feeeeeelings and the production is top-notch, especially in the chorus. – – – 92. DUA LIPA - "IDGAF" yas, dua, kiss off that ex and don't look back (and watch me mirror your actions with what appears to be self-confidence but is actually a crippling lack thereof)! – – – 91. CHARLI XCX/CARLY RAE JEPSEN - "BACKSEAT" the only song from charli xcx's whatever that didn't feel like it was written and mixed yesterday—and a good song at that! – – – 90. HALSEY/CASHMERE CAT - "HOPELESS" ok, say what, two ashley frangipane songs in my top 100???? yes, it's true, i love this one—the vocoder, the production... good job mr. cat! – – – 89. KATY PERRY - "DANCE WITH THE DEVIL" serve anti-alcoholism, quality lyrics, and the finished product of that lazy dab snippet i've been waiting for since 2015! – – – 88. BIG THIEF - "BREATHE IN MY LUNGS" the b-side to the mythological beauty single (which i've since gotten on vinyl), "breathe in my lungs and i'll leave in your arms" gets me on the edge of tears evrytiem. – – – 87. SUSANNE SUNDFØR - "THE GOLDEN AGE" this is the song i least expected to be given on music for people in talent and am most glad to have been given—gorgeous and subversive. – – – 86. RAE SREMMURD - "PERPLEXING PEGASUS" see former post about having a soft spot for trap—this is maybe the hottest beat i've ever heard. *3 flame emojis*

SOFI DE LA TORRE - "U CAN'T DO EASY" the production of this song haunts me—so muted—and i love the way she says "swear to god, swear to god." – – – 79. KATHERYN ELIZA HUDSONNE - "ACT MY AGE" this should've been the lead single and it ended up being demoted to target track. – – – 78. TOVE LO - "HEY YOU GOT DRUGS?" tove's best song. – – – 77. FLEET FOXES - "IF YOU NEED TO, KEEP TIME ON ME" my favorite song on crack-up. – – – 76. FRANCIS + THE LIGHTS - "JUST FOR US" the synth line of this is such a banger. – – – 75. SELENA GOMEZ - "BAD LIAR" i did not love this on first listen but it has crept up on me like an earwig and i love it now. – – – 74. BJÖRK - "LOSSS" I'VE OPENED MY HEART FOR YOU / TIED RIBBONS ON MY ANKLES FOR YOU / DREW ORCHIDS ON MY THIGHS FOR YOU / YOUR LOWER LIP SO HEAVY ON YOU / MY SPINE CURVED EROTICALLY / WE'RE FINALLY VULNERABLE – – – 73. DAUGHTER - "HOPE" i distinctly remember the first time i heard this song and i thought my world was imploding from too much beauty in a song.
