Mount Eerie didn't have much staying power for me (usually I listen to a project for it's instrumentation/production first to see if it interested me and ME didn't really do it for me. Guess it's a good thing I didn't based on that harrowing description, huh?) and I never got to the Sufjan tape (thanks for getting me into Wallowa Lake Monster though ) but Kendrick, Susanne, and Lana all put out great projects

 MFPIT  Not here for the title track slander though, the spoken words part is actually amazing with it being right after the grand Sound Of War, it's like a breath of fresh air and the lyrics actually make a lot of sense with them being right after that song, and the second part of the song is just flawless 

everything you said about the second half of MFPIT is actually true, i do love that part i forgot  just the spoken part feels unnecessary to me idk why. maybe i'll figure it ouT

also screaming because when i first saw this i thought "DAYUM " was praising me for having a good update

yeah ME isn't a very intriguing listen sonically but it's DEVASTATING so it kind of makes up for it! you spend the most time listening to the words and absorbing them rather than listening for sonic intricacies so i guess it works eh?

5. JESSIE WARE - 'GLASSHOUSE'

 

 

jessie ware has one of my favorite voices in music: it's smoky, capable of both airy lightness and gravelly heft. glasshouse's opener, the "bennie and the jets"-lite "midnight," is the best example of this, as ware alternates between ethereal head voice in the verses and sky-high belting in the chorus. the album, more than her others, is full of warmth, of emotion: her voice, her emotive delivery, sells each of her words and the love they carry. the second track, "thinking about you," details the guilt she feels being away from her daughter; the soft high-end piano twinkles lend the song an additional tenderness, beyond what her voice already conveys. highlight "first time" opens with a gorgeous, plaintive choral riff and dissolves into a moody slow jam, rife with electric guitar riffs and stomping drums, about returning to the early days of love. sexy slow jams "stay awake, wait for me" and "slow me down" contain heavier traces of ware's earlier outputs, meant for playing expressly after dark, full of longing and slow-burning love. "your domino," with its soft pulses of synth and propulsive tempo, offers a sleek, euphoric change of pace; i literally cannot sit still during the chorus.

 

glasshouse is my fifth favorite album of the year; on it, jessie ware made beautiful music by distilling all her vulnerabilities and emotions into a captivating, warm truth.

4. LONDON GRAMMAR - 'TRUTH IS A BEAUTIFUL THING'

 

 

hannah reid's voice soars. take the third track, "wild eyed," as an example: in the verses, against a deep, major-key electronic piano, her voice crawls at the bottom of its range. then, at the onset of the chorus, the piano falls from major to minor, and her voice swoops, birdlike, into its upper limits. skitting drums and mournful guitars accompany in the furthest reaches of the stereo field.

hannah's vocal acrobatics are only one of the features that set london grammar's music ahead of its peers; also of note are the xx-like electric guitar flourishes, the beautifully-set lyrics, the gloomy production that occasionally gives way to bursts of frenetic energy.

 

icy and sleek, emotive and honest, truth is a beautiful thing is my fourth favorite album of the year.

3. SLOWDIVE - 'SLOWDIVE’

 

slowdive, as a band, makes me feel like i missed out on the ‘90s: to have been alive for “souvlaki,” to have seen them live at that time, would have been great. luckily they reunited and i was able to experience this album. 

 

slowdive’s fever dream of a reunion album, spacious and lush, is my fourth favorite album of the year.

 

favorites: slomo, don’t know why, everyone knows, falling ashes

Nice album list so far  A Deeper Understanding, Crack-Up, Pleasure, Take My Wig, Melodrama, Assdestruction, re•puta•tion, I C U, Utopia, DAMN. and Crow, WIG  Mess @ Beach House's, Angel's and Suf's b-sides albums appearing but well, they did THAT

I gotta check out Shannon Lay's album Kevin Morby was promoting the **** out of it
