I was gonna praise this top 5 but... then I saw 5H in there... lhdang2000 CANCELLED

Fifth Harmony was not "new" at all, I agree with you. :rip:

Memories... Do Not Open had some cute tracks, but overall I was expecting way better judging by the singles :rip:

I've yet to hear the other 3 albums!

Fifth Harmony deservedly snatching a spot :clap3: Kiii I would never sit down and listen to an Austin Mahone project.

Meh, don't care much for Coldplay outside of their biggest hits. Chainsmokers and Maroon 5 have released amazing stuff before 2017, but these latest releases are definitely lacking something. I wouldn't personally put them anywhere near a worst list, but I can understand why both are here. I agree that Closure's runtime is ridiculous :rip: At the 7 minute mark I just felt completely trapped in that song and had to skim to the end.

You should not listen to the other 3 tho. :rip:

Considering I was given the album free, I honestly thought I should give it a try. Didn't expect much, and I'm glad I didn't. :rip:

Closure is such a weird song, who thought that is a good idea considering they have like 5 more bonus tracks after it. :dies:

005. (tie) Zedd & Alessia Cara - Stay

Have we all wondered once in our lifetime the word 'destiny?' I don't know about you, but I've always believed in that word. I've always wondered myself what would happen if I did this but not that, or what would I happen if I go to this place or not that place? It all comes down to destiny, and that idea is creatively interpreted in this MV.

005. (tie) Kesha - Praying

Different from 'Stay', this music video is here because of the play with color. The first minute is also a perfect speech for Kesha's comeback video. However, I once again have to say that I love how the color mashed so well together in this video. It's not like they pick colors that easy to blend, they pick bright colors, heavy exposure effect just like how aggressive Kesha's POV in the song.

004. Demi Lovato - Tell Me You Love Me

This is one of the few times that Demi actually gives us a music video with a plot. And it works really well. I love the acting part in the first minutes, even the argument between Jesse and Demi seems really real. I don't know how much did Demi bring her personal life into this music video, but I feel deeply connected to it, and it hits me hard. Also, the mystery of 'Erik' character could help Demi create the next parts following TMYLM. What would I change? Demi's acting is a bit stiff. I know she doesn't want to be an actress, and I hope this is the first step for her to start getting used to the cameras again.

003. Logic - 1-800-273-8255 (feat. Alessia Cara & Khalid)

I love this video. The fact that Logic has managed to bring so many different issues into one video is fantastic. I really pour my heart out watching this one, as I feel like I can relate to the pain that the main character has gone through. The use of dark colors symbolize the dark emotion inside the character's, and that last moment is truly beautiful. There's only one thing I can say about this song and this video: powerful.

002. Taylor Swift - Look What You Made Me Do

I personally think this music video is one of the best things that has happened to pop culture. Whether you like the song or not, you have to admit that Taylor is a genius for all the ideas using in LWYMMD's music video. The girl throws obvious shades without telling who is she talking about, she looks beautiful, she does choreography, what else do you need? The ability to review every controversial issue related to her in only 4 minutes is something that I believe if it's not Taylor, I highly doubt anyone would be able to.

001. Clean Bandit - Symphony (feat. Zara Larsson)

This music video uses flashback techniques: showing what is happening to retell the beautiful story of a gay relationship. And at the end, it turns out that everything is just a flashback of what is actually happening in the theater. This just proves to me everyone has a dream, and every couple has its difficulty, but the fact that the couple was together, and one of them decided to sacrifice their dream to help the other is so beautiful. This is what love is all about. And the last second of the video has got me obsessed. The music video should have received every video nominations, but in fact, it was overlooked by Clean Bandit’s more successful project: Rockabye.

I prefer music videos with plots tho. I can't even explain why. :jonny:

020. Imagine Dragons - EVOLVE

When I first listened to the singles, I expected a lot on this album. However, the final product kinda disappointed me. Basically, the catchiest songs are singles already, and it kills all the excitement for the other tracks. However, I still enjoy the album and I'm glad that the band is back.

019. Niall Horan - Flicker

This was a perfect debut album for Niall. He didn't go the most mainstream way. However, he chose to pursue Pop/Rock/Country at the same time. It's relatable yet still catchy, and I think that's what Niall needs for a debut album. The product he puts out is really different from the Rap/Urban/EDM stuff that you might hear on your Pop radio stations, and that helps Niall stands out so much in the industry.

018. Sam Smith - The Thrill of It All

You might still remember when I was talking about Fifth Harmony's effort is that the worst thing could happen to an album is that it showed a sign of stalling in their creativity. Apparently, this applies to Sam Smith's case also. But Sam knows that he has a unique voice, and he relies on it heavily. Lucky for him, it works in his favor. However, good voice can only take him this far, and he cannot go any further in my Best Of.

017. Red Velvet - Perfect Velvet

Perfect Velvet is probably one of the latest albums to make it to my list. Even though all tracks sound pretty alike, Red Velvet managed to blow in the songs a taste of their own personality. You can listen to the album with a very peaceful mindset, and you do not have to think much about the other things around you. Also, putting Peek-A-Boo as the single and the first track of the album is the smartest thing SM Entertainment and the girls could do.

016. Dua Lipa - Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa is one of the most discussed pop girls with an explosive hit in 2017, 'New Rules.' Like many other European artists, there is something about Dua's voice that is very different: strong yet fragile, sexy yet insecure at the same time, leaving the listeners with no choice but to believe in what she's singing. The only problem I have with the album is the tracklist. For a fan, 17-track is good since the more songs you have, the better. For a casual listener like me, it feels like the album would never end, especially with a lot of fillers in the middle of the album. Also, you might recognize that in different countries, the album might have a different tracklist. To me, this is not the best way of representing yourself to the public in your debut album. Had she cut down some fillers and made the album 10~12 tracks, it would have been better for her. In the end, there are good ones and bad ones, but I believe you might have to dance and enjoy yourself while listening to some tracks on the album.

Ayyy, our Niall placements are pretty similar :gaycat3: (Mine #20, yours #19)

The Thrill of It All :eddie: Flicker :heart2: Dua Lipa :fish1: Evolve :date:

Yeah, Sam didn't really change his sound at all but Thrill still worked for him. Though there's nothing that really comes close to the highs of his debut. Dua Lipa could've trimmed a few tracks off, I agree. :-* I was underwhelmed with Evolve at first as well, but that actually changed after a few more plays + seeing them live definitely boosted my opinion. None of the three singles are even in my top 2!

Posted

I liked Evolve and Thrill of It All. Niall is just like a third rate Ed wannabe to me so I'm not interested.

Dua is the nicest here :alexz3:  Though I guess Niall's and Sam's were okay-ish

:dies: Two of your worst albums are actually two of my faves, you're wrong!
