ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 Props to you for enjoying an Astrid S song, couldn't do it myself! Wearing Nothing is good but I'm over it, did you like ha new song?
Lazuli Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Quote James producing for a pop girl would truly be his best work. An IDEA Finding You
MP2K Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Blah @ Passion I'm such a bad stan, I didn't pay much attention to Susanne Sundfør this year.

Eeveelution Posted December 18, 2017 Author Posted December 18, 2017 (edited) 50. The National - "Born to Beg" From: Sleep Well Beast Over their past few albums, The National have slotted themselves into a conformable niche which suits them well. However, the band to find subtle ways to reinvigorate their songs. For example, the subtle electronic flourishes which elevate Born to Beg, already a lovely piano ballad, into an underrated highlight on Sleep Well Beast. Demi Lovato - "Only Forever" From: Tell Me You Love Me I don’t know who told Demetria that she doesn’t need to scream relentlessly on every song, but to them I am eternally grateful. Her vocals on this ambient, post-IDM Tell Me You Love Me highlight are more restrained than ever, and consequently this stands as one of her strongest vocal performances (and songs) to date. See also: "Tell Me You Love Me"; "Concentrate" 48. Ibeyi - I Wanna Be Like You From: Ash French-Cuban duo Ibeyi blend genres, styles and even several languages in an accomplished way that belies their young age. The fullest realization of their sound so far is perhaps I Wanna Be Like You, a low-key moment on Septmber’s Ash which displays some effective electronic touches that are a welcome addition to their discography. . See also: "Deathless" 47. Dirty Projectors - "Cool Your Heart" (feat. Dawn Richard) From: Dirty Projectors Today in unexpected 2017 collaborations. Dawn’s vocals interject some much needed energy into David Longstreth’s latest effort and the pair have a surprising amount of chemistry. The breezy lilt of the instrumentation and the more optimistic tone of the lyrics make it much funner to listen to than the rest of the album for me, just an uplifting slice of pop perfection all around. See also: "Little Bubble" 46. SZA - "Garden (Say it Like Dat)" From: CTRL If CTRL sometimes plays it a little safe musically, Garden (Say it Like Dat) is the antithesis to that. Garden is a less traditional R&B song and adds some variety to the record. On a bed of Vespertine-era bleep-bloops, SZA crafts a crystalline dreamscape to lay bare her doubts and fears, her songwriting as confessional and self-depreciating as ever…. Even the most hardened OSZAH has to root for her a little here. See also: "Supermodel"; "Pretty Little Birds" (feat. Isaiah Rashad) Edited December 18, 2017 by Eeveelution
TheWayWeWere Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Demi's comment about vocals tell em! Only Forever is perfect Garden one of my favorite bops from album
theblackestday Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Only Forever is a masterpiece and that’s that on that
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 I've never heard the Demi songs!
Tom Vercetti Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Quote Her vocals on this ambient, post-IDM Only forever is one of her best songs, yeah. CYH Different National choices i'm seeing around.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 It's okay but I thknk "post IDM" is a WEE bit of a stretch.
Eeveelution Posted December 18, 2017 Author Posted December 18, 2017 (edited) 45. Seohyun - "Magic" From: Don't Say No Seohyun plays with tried-and-tested sounds in a way that doesn't feel derivative or uninspired at all. The sultry non-hook and Seohyun's self-assured delivery give this song an effortless charm which makes it an easy highlight on Don't Say No. See also: "Bad Love" 44. Selena Gomez - "Bad Liar" From: ??? An avant-gardist in a pop star’s costume in an avant-gardist’s costume, all eyes were on Selena Gomez after releasing genre-shaping classics such as “Good for You”, “Come and Get it” and “Outta my Hands (Loco)”. Where could she possibly go next? No one could have predicted this. Sampling a beloved Talkng Heads track was a bold and risky move that only artists with a vision as clear as Selena’s could convincingly pull off. But sample or not, it is Gomez who undeniably ties this song together: when she sings lyrics like “If you're the art, I'll be the brush” her inimitable tone and cadence, along with the multifaceted and oblique style of lyrics reminds us that we can never truly understand an artist so chameleonic and envelope-pushing: is the art / brush metaphor a playful come on to a potential lover, or is it a more loaded critique about how women of colour are often reduced to mere vehicles for the artistic whims of powerful white men? We cannot possibly know. 43. Mabel - Finders Keepers (feat. Kojo Funds) From: Ivy to Roses 2017 saw Mabel’s meteoric rise to fame, and for good reason. Releasing two solid projects in the Bedroom EP and Ivy to Roses mixtape, Finders Keepers is featured on both. This is no Radar situation, though, and the song really is good enough to be released twice. Mabel’s irresistible chorus and the summery production helped this song to become a bona fide smasha here in the UK, which was really satisfying after having bopped to this for a minute. . See also: "Ride or Die"; "Begging" 42. Run the Jewels - "Call Ticketron" From: RTJ3 41. yaeji - "raingurl" From: EP2 Yaeji was one of 2017’s most interesting newcomers. Singing, mumbling and talk-rapping (in Korean and English) over some truly forward-thinking production, Yaeji has cultivated a unique identity still very early on in her career. And this song? Well it’s just that bop. Looking at y’alls best ofs, I’m not the only one who thinks so. See also: "drink i'm sippin on" Edited December 18, 2017 by Eeveelution
