It's not bad but if you know Four Tet's music you're bound to be disappointed imo Summer Bummer really didn't do it for me, it annoys me so much for some reason I kind of trusted Damon since Plastic Beach was features-heavy aswell but Plastic Beach was actually a Gorillaz album And it's sad to say but she really does doesn't she? Escape Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 (edited) I'd add Compassion by Forest Swords to the disappointments list. It had its moments but they were all during the first half and the second half being underwhelming imo. Oh and Actress too, the album honestly just bored me. Edited December 13, 2017 by Avariko

I was so excited when "Malibu" came out and I loved it, but then that was that. Hated the album vibe, hated the other singles and it was all just a non-event for what I thought was meant to be a Joanne sized comeback. Sadly not. !!
Vxspertine Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 (edited) Honorable mentions coming later today Edited December 15, 2017 by Vxspertine
Vxspertine Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 Actually let me start this now and maybe I'll do another update later Here are 10 unranked albums that didn't quite make my list, but I thought were worth a mention... Charly Bliss - Guppy Very cute record but nothing really to say about it, it's pretty average for a power pop/punk pop record. It's also pretty short, so it didn't quite get my attention. Still liked it though and it had some cute lyrics and visuals. Adna – Closure She's a very interesting singer from Bosnia, that has a great voice and some really dark lyrics. This was a very decent album, loved her vocals. It's not really that special or anything too unique, but I still enjoyed it. Laura Marling - Semper Femina This is a lovely, heartwarming album with really nice lyrics. Her vocals are stunning and she gives a very quiet delivery which gives off a really calm vibe. Towards the middle it gets kind of boring to be honest. Still, this is a very decent album with a great vibe.
Pink Matter Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 I didn't quite like the Laura Merling album (which is a shame since Wildfire is such a good song ).
Vxspertine Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 Kesha - Rainbow while it wasn't really my cup of tea, I really appreciate her lyrics and her musical transformation. She did a great job with her comeback this year and I'm really happy for her. Hopefully with her next album she'll find a more focused sound. Perfume Genius - No Shape I tried to get into his music multiple times with no success. I always get tired or bored of his style and sounds. This album in particular was more interesting to me than other releases he put out because of the singles. While I didn't enjoy it much, it started growing on me a little bit towards the end of the year. A lot of the tracks on it are just boring and it doesn't really work as an album imo. I really hope eventually his music will grow on me, since he is a very interesting artist. Kirin J. Callinan - Bravado This is a weird album, with weird lyrics and weird flows. Some songs actually sound like a parody. Still this album is very catchy and weirdly pleasing in a way. Didn't really come back to it much this year, but I still enjoyed it.
Vxspertine Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 Demi Lovato – Tell Me You Love Me Who knew Demi could make decent music? Her voice is great on this record and most of the songs are not tedious! This is actually a really mature album with a really mature sound, her lyrics sound honest. I really didn't expect Crybaby to be so good. I really liked it, I hope she keeps it up! Alice Glass - Alice Glass This is a great debut for her. I can definitely tell that she's trying to figure out her sound with this EP. While this isn't the best EP, the ideas are definitely there. I really wanna see what she'll do next.
Vxspertine Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 (edited) David Bowie - No Plan This isn't anything to be really excited about, but it's still definitely worth a mention. The new songs on this EP are all pretty good, with the title track being a highlight. Just like pretty much everyone else, I'll miss him a lot. Blackstar is probably my favorite record of his. Mount Eerie - A Crow Looked At Me Couldn't rank this album, but I still wanted to mention it. It was way too hard to listen to for me since I'm a huge fan of Phil. It's honestly so heartbreaking when you see someone you love suffer, and he pretty much shares everything about his suffering on this album, which is amazing and an incredible artistic achievement, but also just makes me feel like I wish it wasn't real. Pink Matter Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Rainbow was a solid effort! Much better than her previous albums imo. Didn't really come back to this album a whole lot but I did enjoy it for what it was. Sad you couldn't get into No Shape though It really clicked for me late in the year. And I've seen so much praise for Demi's album so I might actually check it out at some point. SNS is a tune though. I think A Crow Looked At Me is similar to Carrie & Lowel in that the lyricism on the album is meant to be the highlight but the production/instrumentation in both albums cases is what stop me from being pulled into the album. Overall I didn't enjoy the music Crow offered but I can at least appreciate the songwriting.

I'm still trying with No Shape Demi actually came thru which is really surprising And I kind of look at A Crow Looked At Me as a story more than an album, it's clearly not aiming to be a musical project, it's just the way Phil knows how to express himself and his emotions. I didn't give it many listens because it just tore through my soul I love his music and he really didn't deserve all this suffering.
K$Ellie Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Rainbow not making the list but slay @ it getting a mention even tho you didn't really like it Tell Me You Love Me is by far Demi's best album I didn't think Younger Now would be that bad cause of Malibu but I was wrong Lust For Life had a lot of filler Maroon 5 was a disappointment? Did you actually expect it to be good?
Dom Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 rainbow and demi's albummm, yes daddy. back on track.

Like the music as a whole is great but it hurts to listen b/c it hits too close to home lol. I think one song in particular made me feel like this (which I'll talk about in my Best of later ) too.

Definitely miles better than anything else on her discography and her looks this era, WHEW Miley on the other hand... girl. Lana really disappointed And yes, for like a few minutes I did actually think Maroon 5 might release a decent album 12 minutes ago, Dom said: rainbow and demi's albummm, yes daddy. back on track.
