Tom Vercetti Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 I heard After Laughter like once but didn't manage to go back to it. I wanted to like Julien but parts of her album bored me. Jay Som's cool. Bus Song is an anthem. Brock 1, Drunk & Aromanticism are my favorite of this update. I've been meaning to check out the new "The World Is A Beautiful Place" album, haven't gotten around to it yet.
Lazuli Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 The Paramore draggings Ctrl, Everybody Works, Turn Out the Lights
Kim Kardashian Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Ctrl & TMYLM Deserved higher but at least they got a mention. I haven't even heard of most of the other albums I'll have to check some of them out.

I don't get the praise for that album tbh Julien's album was a lot of the same thing but her vocals really saved it for me. Bus Song really is an anthem The World Is A Beautiful Place's album was pretty nice, nothing I would go out of my way to check out though. You should listen to the highlights, Marine Tigers is much better than the rest. If you like Demi and Sza I'd check out Moses Sumney's and Julien Baker's albums out of the ones I posted Moses' album is mainly a R&B and Soul album and his voice is amazing, and Julien's album is very vocally rich and captivating. Forgot to post a recap: Spoiler 40. Paramore - After Laughter 39. Neil Cicierega - Mouth Moods 38. SZA - Control 37. Julien Baker - Turn Out the Lights 36. Brockhampton - Saturation 35. artangels Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 (edited) I'm a flop I know only 4 albums but they are good and placing is deserved Edited December 16, 2017 by artangels
World Eater Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 I agrih with Saturation II being better that I, in fact I is the worst out of the three they released Everybody Works took some time to grow on me and while I think it's far from being perfect, there are some incredible moments on there. Aromanticism and Drunk though TWIABPAIANLATD's record was alright but I feel like they've already peaked
Jet Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Paramore I tried getting into Ctrl but just couldn’t
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 16, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 16, 2017 I don't really get Jay Som, like she's good but kinda unoriginal IMO. Waiting for better music from her. CTRL and AL are my fave so far.

Vxspertine Posted December 16, 2017 Author Posted December 16, 2017 Let's get to it shall we? First up we have... 30. Beach Fossils – Somersault Spoiler Score: 7/10 (7.1/10) Trinity: Saint Ivy, This Year, Closer Everywhere Worst track: Be Nothing This record puts me in a great mood. It's super sweet and cute, the vibe is great and it has some great highlights. It's basically just a super chill album that's really sweet. Nothing out of the ordinary but it's great for what it is. It does get pretty boring towards the end though. 29. Yaeji - The Yaeji EP's Spoiler Score: 7/10 (7.25/10) Trinity: Raingurl, Passionfruit, New York 93 Worst track: After That I like both of these EP's (Her first EP is better overall imo, but the flow of her second EP is better) and I think combined they would make a great album, so I put them in this list together. This is pretty much mumble pop. Her music is really moody and quiet, and her delivery is super sexy and fun, and I really enjoy her music. Some tracks are a bit too generic for me though, which is why she didn't end up higher on the list. And also maybe she should have just put out an album instead of 2 EP's. It'd probably get more exposure and would flow more nicely as an album.
Vxspertine Posted December 16, 2017 Author Posted December 16, 2017 28. Richard Dawson – Peasant Spoiler Score: 7/10 (7.4/10) Trinity: Ogre, Weaver, Beggar Worst track: Shapeshifter I didn't know about Richard before this album, and this was a really weird introduction to his music for me. Very interesting record, I enjoyed it for a bit but it's pretty hard to listen to so I didn't really come back to it very much. The lyrics are wondrous and mysterious and this album feels like it's traveling back in time to medieval times and brings in modern music into the world of medieval music. Again it's a tough listen, but it was still worth listening to. 27. Fever Ray – Plunge Spoiler Score: To The Moon And Back/10 Trinity: To The Moon And Back, IDK About You, An Itch Worst track: Mama's Garbage This is Fever Ray's second excellently produced solo album, and while I do love most of this album it does feel a bit random, and also some tracks really test my patience. I think she tried to go for a more fun approach (production wise) with this one and it worked for the most part, but again some of it drags and feels random. It also feels pretty randomly put together, and it doesn't really feel like an album, it would probably work just as well as a playlist of songs from several albums. It also kind of made me realize even more that I don't really enjoy her vocals. I'm just not the biggest Fever Ray fan, but I was still very impressed with this album, she's definitely an amazing musician and knows her stuff when it comes to crafting her music.
Vxspertine Posted December 16, 2017 Author Posted December 16, 2017 26. Sampha – Process Spoiler Score: 7/10 (7.3/10) Trinity: Reverse Faults, Blood On Me, Under Worst track: Incomplete Garbage The best thing about this album is it's production, which is why this is a good album but not a great album for Sampha, it could have been much better if tracks like Like The Piano and Incomplete Kisses weren't in it, those tracks aged SO badly. I liked it a lot more when it came out, but with every listen it became clearer to me that half of it is way better than the rest. Those low points became annoying, and they're just not as original or full of energy like the highlights of the album. I hope he will go in a more experimental direction with his next efforts and leave these kinds of basic tracks on the studio's floor. Still a unique release and his vocals are so sweet. 25. Circuit des Yeux – Reaching For Indigo Spoiler Score: 7.5/10 (7.55/10) Trinity: Black Fly, Brainshift, Philo Worst track: A Story Of This World P.2 This is the first time I've heard of her and I really love her voice and lyrics. Her vocal delivery is great, and it works really well with the kind of lowkey production on the pretty grand instrumentation. This album is a really great listen, with a lot of haunting vocal elements. She reminds me of Zola Jesus a lot, and I feel like if this album was longer it'd have been better than Okovi.
theblackestday Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 (edited) Somersault, Yaeji, Peasant, Plunge, Process Great set so far. Don't know the last one. Couldn't disagree more about your Plunge paragraph and I can't at you dragging nearly every album in your BEST ALBUMS of the year list I very much agree with everything you said about Process though. Edited December 16, 2017 by theblackestday
Vxspertine Posted December 16, 2017 Author Posted December 16, 2017 24. Oxbow - Thin Black Duke Spoiler Score: 7.5/10 (7.7/10) Trinity: Ecce Homo, Letter Of Note, The Upper Worst track: Host Oxbow has never been one of my favorites in their genre, simply because they never really brought anything new or original to the table or impress me much. This album is sadly not really an exception to that. Still, it's an interesting and mysterious album, and has almost no filler at all. I feel like if it wasn't so short I would have enjoyed it much more. 23. King Krule – The OOZ Spoiler Score: 7/10 (7.2/10) Trinity: Dum Surfer, Half Man Half Shark, The Cadet Leaps Worst track: Sublunary While this album is very overrated by some publishers, I think this is still a good album for him, but it's way too long, some tracks in the middle are unnecessary and the album should have ended at the title track. I loved it initially but after revisiting it I just felt like it gets pretty boring in the middle. It's really moody, and because of the length it makes it a pretty heavy listen. Still enjoyed it a lot, but it could have been much better and more interesting too if it was shorter and more focused.
Vxspertine Posted December 16, 2017 Author Posted December 16, 2017 (edited) 22. Dirty Projectors – Dirty Projectors Spoiler Score: 7.5/10 Trinity: Death Spiral, Work Together, Cool Your Heart Worst track: I See You I don't understand why so many people hate this album, it's actually really nice and a great listen, I really like the sound of it and the vibes are great. I would love if the centerpiece (Ascent Through Clouds) had less autotune on it though. Also I See You is kind of boring. It's not a perfect album and it also has a lazy vibe to it, but it works and I still really like it. Cool Your Heart is a bOP! 21. Kamasi Washington - Harmony of Difference Spoiler Score: 8.5/10 (8.6/10) Trinity: Desire, Knowledge, Truth Worst track: Humility Kamasi drops another excellent project, this time a lovely EP, with very short tracks for him since on his last masterpiece every track was grand and long. I love this EP. All the tracks are great. If this was a proper album it'd end up in my top 5 for sure, but since it's just an EP and the songs don't really have much connection, it's just too much of an EP to stand out enough to reach higher. Still, he came thru and I can't wait for his next project. Edited December 16, 2017 by Vxspertine
