Brockhampton - Saturation II Quote Got a lot of things to say that I could never finishTold my mama, "I'll be back, just gotta kill another mission" Spoiler Score: 7.5/10 (7.8/10) Trinity: Queer, Tokyo, Junky Worst track: Gamba Brockhampton made 3 really good albums this year. I've been very impressed with their sound considering they're so new and put out so much material in such a short amount of time. This is a very fun album at times and very serious at times, and a great improvement from their first album. Don't really care for a few tracks but it's great overall. I honestly hope they'll stop putting out so much material in short periods of time, I hope they'll start working harder on cutting **** out and putting out complete albums rather than just be an assembly line for whatever reason that they're doing it for. SIII will not be making an appearance on my list btw since it was released so late, but I'd probably put it at around #30. Edited December 18, 2017 by Vxspertine

HYPERTEXT - SuperSystem Vibe Quote They say honesty is for selfish men Spoiler Score: 8/10 (8.2/10) Trinity: This Will Soon Be Over, White Prints, Flashbacks Worst track: Crime Didn't know about this band before I heard this album, and I was really excited after I first heard it because of how good it was. It's just such a cute and lovely album, all the songs are really solid, the quality of the music is great, and I really love the vibe of the album. It's really well-layered musically and it feels like what I would want The XX's music to sound like in 2017, it has a lot more energy than anything they came up with since their debut, and it has really interesting beats and flows. There are a lot of beat switches on each song, which makes the album a really exciting listen. The vocal performances on this album are just lovely, and add to the music so much. I was really impressed with this record, and some tracks were stuck in my head for a long while after I first heard it. My one complaint is that I wish it wasn't so short. There are only a few actual songs on this album, with a pretty short track list that consists of 6 songs and 3 interludes. @theblackestday's impact Edited December 18, 2017 by Vxspertine
theblackestday Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 My impact I'm glad you liked it! Crime really is the worst but the rest is very good. I agree it's too short but I'm not too mad about it.
Vxspertine Posted December 18, 2017 Author Posted December 18, 2017 (edited) 13. Nothing But Thieves - Broken Machine Quote Oh, doctor please, this don't feel right Oh, can't you give me something to get me through the night? If it all falls apart, and if this thing goes wrong Oh put me back together however you want Spoiler Score: 7.5/10 (7.75/10) Trinity: I Was Just A Kid, Particles, I'm Not Made By Design Worst track: Get Better this album isn't very original or special, but it has some amazingly crafted and amazingly performed holy bops. Songs like Particles and I'm Not Made By Design are undeniably catchy and have amazing vocal performances, and are some of the best tracks of the year. It's also definitely a huge improvement from their last album. On the other hand there are tracks like Amsterdam that are super boring and borderline annoying. It's like a top notch, masterfully crafted album that's made of generic, unoriginal and basic pop-rock sounds. This is another one of those albums that are among the generic-but-amazing pop-rock record. It's a mixed bag on some parts, but I still enjoyed the heck out of this album this year and I couldn't place it lower. Edited December 18, 2017 by Vxspertine
Vxspertine Posted December 18, 2017 Author Posted December 18, 2017 12. Kendrick Lamar – DAMN. Quote I got Loyalty, got royalty inside my DNA Cocaine quarter piece, got war and peace inside my DNA I got power, poison, pain and joy inside my DNA I got hustle though, ambition flow inside my DNA Spoiler Score: 7.5/10 (7.8/10) Trinity: DNA. ELEMENT. HUMBLE. Worst track: YAH. This is Kendrick's worst effort so far in my opinion. It's not that it's a bad album, but it's just not amazing like his other albums. It doesn't feel very special, the energy is really low on some of the tracks, and it's pretty much nothing new in the hiphop scene sadly. And while some tracks like Fear and DNA are definitely highlights in his discography, other tracks like Yah and Love are just not good, which is something Kendrick almost never let happen on his past 2 albums. I honestly don't understand why it's so widely praised by critics. This album is still much better than pretty much anything any other current rapper out there put out recently. His lyrics always deliver and I can't say too many bad things about this album, it is pretty high on my list after all. I just really hope this doesn't mark a change in Kendrick's career and that he will continue putting out excellent and groundbreaking albums.

Literally screaming Anyways this is a great album and stay edgy with that Amsterdam slander. I agree it's a bit of a mixed bag and it didn't age all that well for me although I enjoyed it a lot.
Lucas32 Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 DAMN is not worse than Section.80 or untitled but yes it's not as good as his previous two, but that's a very high bar to set.
Vxspertine Posted December 18, 2017 Author Posted December 18, 2017 11. Sevdaliza – Ison Quote I am flesh, bones I am skin, soul I am human Nothing more than human Spoiler Score: 8/10 Trinity: Marilyn Monroe, Human, Hubris Worst track: Replaceable She's a pretty new alternative R&B/Trip Hop singer, and she dropped some nice music leading up to this album. This album didn't get much exposure this year, and a lot of people have been criticizing it quite a bit. While I do see the flaws of this album (needed atleast 15 mins cut off of it, some tracks should have been shorter and some tracks should have been cut off completely), I find the lowkey and slow vibe of the album, with her very gentle vocal delivery, to be incredibly seducing. I like most of the songs, and the highlights are amazing. Love how elegant this album is and I'm kind of a sucker for the Trip Hop sound that she pulls off really well in some of these tracks. With highlights like Marilyn Monroe and Human she's almost hypnotic, and on the closing track she gives an amazing, long and emotional vocal performance (althought the length of the track is pretty off putting and I'm not sure how much this track was actually necessary). And I also love the visuals. I can't wait to see what she has in store with her next projects.

ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted December 18, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 yay Ison. such a pleasant listen though only the singles really stood out for me
Tom Vercetti Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Brockhampton 2 is to 1 as EP2 is to Yaeji Self Titled if that makes sense. I was kinda underwhelmed With Broken's sophomore album With Damn, agree on some parts (like Love not being good). Still don't think it's his worst tho, but compared to the previous two, it's less concept heavy.
