ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted December 31, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 31, 2017 13 - 16 16. VÉRITÉ - Somewhere in Between (indie-pop) Dark pop perfection tbh. The Banks comparisons make sense to me but Verite has a more consistent sound Faves: Saint, Floor, When You're Gone 15. Kelela - Take Me Apart (electronic, rnb) A great debut album for Kelela. The production is addicting on this Faves: Blue Light, Bluff, Altadena 14. Tei Shi - Crawl Space (indie-pop) She really did that Crawl Space. So many bops and others with depth. Even the interludes are adorable Faves: Keep Running, Say You Do, Justify 13. Vince Staples - Big Fish Theory (electronic, rap) One of two rap albums on my list for the year. Some serious bops on this whew Faves: Big Fish, 745, samo

ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted January 3, 2018 Author ATRL Moderator Posted January 3, 2018 9 - 12 12. Anna of the North - Lovers (indie pop) Her sound really reminds me of Shura but Anna’s debut is more of a grower for me than Shura’s which was instant. Always is pretty much 2Shy with different lyrics. Other than that I love the emotions behind this especially for a minimalist 80's synth-pop record Faves: Money, All I Want, Fire 11. Ibeyi - Ash (alternative) Ibeyi really stepped it up with their second album for me. They’re bops and some really serious tracks that still kinda slap. Sampling Michelle Obama is an easy way to my heart too: And I, I told them they should disregard anyone who demeans or devalues them, and that they should make their voices heard in the world Faves: Deathless, No Man is Big Enough For My Arms, Away Away 10. Loreen - Ride (indie rock) I’ve always heard about Loreen but this is first record by her I got into and I’m so glad I did. I love the sadness and how cohesive the album is. Her vocals are also so beautiful even though I can barely hear what she’s saying. Faves: Hate The Way I Love You, ‘71 Charger, Jupiter Drive 9. Betsy - Betsy (pop) She’s so underrated and I really love her deep voice and lyrics on this. Honestly I think of Cher without autotune when I’m listening to this. Such an amazing debut. Her production is a bit stale but everything else is great Faves: Waiting, Heavy Head, Little White Lies
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted January 3, 2018 Author ATRL Moderator Posted January 3, 2018 5 - 8 8. Kesha - Rainbow (pop) Kesha really did that with rainbow. I was worried about the album being not as fun as a typical Kesha record but the balance here is so beautiful and Kesha really sounds comfortable in her more country astronaut sound. Faves: Spaceship, Boots, Finding You 7. Lorde - Melodrama (pop) Hello pop perfection. I loved Melodrama but it was a bit too short for me to really feel lost in it like her debut made me feel. Still Lorde’s lyricism is something else. So extra but still relatable. I just wish Liability had more dramatic production. Faves: Sober, Homemade Dynamite, Hard Feelings/ Loveless 6. Demi Lovato - Tell Me You Love Me (pop, rnb) This is the Demi record I’ve been waiting for. Vocals are heavenly without being too extra and the yearning in these songs is so addicting. She really did that. Faves: Only Forever, Tell Me You Love Me, Daddy Issues 5. Leikeli47 - Wash & Set (rap, hip-hop) The comparisons to Missy are deserved and Leikeli is so underrated. Serious bops on this. Faves: Attitude, Elian's Revenge, Look
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted January 3, 2018 Author ATRL Moderator Posted January 3, 2018 1 -4 4. Tove Lo - Blue Lips (pop) Part 2 of Lady Wood made me appreciate Part 1 a lot more. She really gave us bops and some really deep songs here and there’s no filler. Even lightbeams is a bop. Faves: hey you got drugs?, shivering gold, disco **** 3. Dua Lipa - Dua Lipa (pop) An amazing debut. Her vocals carried everything especially the slower tracks. Really excited to see where Dua goes with her sound. Only negative was that we got so many of the tracks too early but they still sounded good on this Faves: Genesis, Dreams, New Rules 2. SZA - Ctrl (rnb) SZA did that this year. I was worried when I first heard drew barrymore since I was expecting a similar sound to Z for her first album. But in the SZA released one of my favorite albums of the year. The lyrics are so real and her delivery is so interesting. Faves: The Weekend, Go Gina, Garden (Say It Like That) and now . . . some honorable mentions first. I didn't include because I'm too gay to have them on my end of year list
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted January 3, 2018 Author ATRL Moderator Posted January 3, 2018 No. 1 Lana Del Rey - Lust For Life (pop) Might be favorite Lana album but I love them all. What I love most about this album is how different it is from her previous records. Using features including a rap one, trap production and the topics she sings on. Truly an album for her fans and the positivity was so contagious. She also closed the album with one of my favorite songs from hernow ‘Get Free” so yay Faves: Get Free, Cherry, Love, In My Feelings, Coachella
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted January 3, 2018 Author ATRL Moderator Posted January 3, 2018 (edited) Thanks to everyone that commented or viewed my end of year list. It's really fun and kinda reflective to look back at your year through the music, video games and tv shows you enjoyed that year. Happy new year and I hope you either start poppin or keep poppin in 2018 Sincerely Me, Tsar. Spoiler I was going to finish up thotties of the year but it's basically all the artists who's music I've mentioned but I'll dump them in the next post ki Edited January 3, 2018 by Tsareena

TheWayWeWere Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 Ride was disappointing to me tbh, I liked Statements and Paper Lights, but this album was borefest Rainbow, TMYLM and Rainbow all was such a surprise upgrades from that girls Blue Lips has some great tunes, but overall it kinda fails to connects with me Dua and CTRL in top 3 LFL #1 whew, TASTE amazing album
Staryu Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 Lust for Life is probably Lana's most accessible album for me? I loved Cherry anyway
