World Eater Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 1 Wig, Miss XCX did that Same Drugs was one of my favorites from Coloring Book, but again, wasn't crazy about the mixtape Mess @ Venus Fly charting Love the song tho, and love Cool Your Heart as well

ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 28, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 28, 2017 Glad the effect of Art Angels can still be felt in 2017, truly the album of the decade!
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted December 28, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 28, 2017 oh wow 1 night to lemon to venus fly the weekend too

TheWayWeWere Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Told You So this > HT 1 Night is flawless bop Lemon Rih rapping >>>> Venus Fly is probably my favorite track from AA, but video was boring The Wekeend
Navyofbadgals Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Venus Fly and Lemon the first time I heard Lemon.. I was confused, but it's just a very smart and unique bop whew
Tom Vercetti Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Same Drugs is a throwback but it's great. Lemon, CYH & We Find love
MP2K Posted December 30, 2017 Author Posted December 30, 2017 100-91 90-81 80-71 70-61 60-51 50-41 40-31 30. Cardi B, “Bodak Yellow” The way Remy ended Nicki but then Cardi swooped right through both of them to become the most successful female rap artist of 2017. No one saw it coming. “Bodak Yellow” is by no means the perfect song. I personally think Gangsta Bitch Vol. 1 had better material. But it’s Cardi’s boisterous personality and confidence throughout the song that makes everyone feel like a bad bitch.Nicki Minaj has been doing it for years yet it was so refreshing seeing it come from someone else, someone likable. Cardi's "Red Barz," "Motorsport," and "No Limit" verses were highlights this year as well Spoiler 29. Fifth Harmony, “Angel” I could care less how successful or unsuccessful this group was going to be when Camila left, I just needed her to go tbh. Visually the group looks better and vocally I guess so too - I hate her voice, sorry. Most importantly the group was able to dabble into a more urban sound I was waiting for them to do. The group further projects their newfound confidence and image over this trap-pop and hip hop produced beat. I dare you to say you didn’t bop. Spoiler 28. GoldLink, “Fall in Love (feat. Ciscero)” A song discovered at the end of 2016, got a lot of play in 2017 and worth a position on my list. GoldLink proves how multi talented he is by rapping and singing his own hook (and sounding good) over production from Kaytranada & BadBadNotGood. When it comes to creating a full album he could use some growth but GoldLink hasn’t failed yet to impress me with his singles.”Fall in Love” is a groovy jam full of jazzy flues. bass and retro harmonies. A great blend of Hip-Hop & R&B. Spoiler 27. Jorja Smith, “Teenage Fantasy” Another Jorja song that grew on me and had instant replay once it did. This song is a smooth jazzy/soulful piece with piano riffs and great vocal delivery and harmonies. It was written when she was 16 and it's an ode to the last days of teenage life. It's about falling in love as a youth, blinded by young love, and you're given all the warning signs by the people who truly love you, family. The chorus is very simple but seems to strike a chord, I'm sure to all of us, when reflecting on our first loves. Spoiler 26. Frank Ocean, “Lens” After all the buzz and acclaim the pressure is taking a toll on Frank, “Lens” is about feeling like his every move is being watched and observed. His voice is the main instrument for majority of the track but he has an obsession with this autotune. It’s super heavy but I still get an emotional feel despite that. I also can’t help but to think of the influence of 808s & Heartbreak when I listen to this track. As the song progresses the autotune fades and the song becomes more somber. The transition/fade is actually my fave parts. Spoiler 25. Lil Uzi Vert, “XO TOUR Llif3” The weird-dark production and catchy hook keeps me listening and singing along. My favorite “mumble rapper” songs of the year. Spoiler 24. Kelela, “LMK” This wasn’t so instant as past Kelela work but when it grew it GREW. It’s got some classic r&b elements that make it sound nostalgic. Like, I could hear this in 1996 with a Bad Boy Remix! . Spoiler 23. SZA, “Drew Barrymore” Very underrated when it was released. “Love Galore” initially got all of the attention, but this was a gem. On the track she talks about her insecurities, apologizing for not being the type of woman that a man might want her to be and the lyrics are also laced with vague references to many of Barrymore’s roles. The concept and instrumentation is what really moves me and makes up for the lack of umph in the chorus. Spoiler 22. Miguel, “Sky Walker (feat. Travis Scott)” If you know me, you know I love me some Miguel. This may have been his least successful era yet but he still delivered a quality, atmospheric bop for those that like to light-up (or just Like the sound). The duo compliment each other with their low key delivery on this chill production. Spoiler 21. Kelela, “Frontline” The boldness and confidence is on a thousand in majority of her songs. Kelela’s very direct, when she loves you or wants some sex she’ll say it out loud. And kicking you to the curb is no different here on this cold track “Frontline.” I love her delivery, the spacey pauses and drums on this track as well. This track was when I knew I was ready for the album. Spoiler .
Wicked Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 Cardi relates to the everyday girls, I feel that is a huge part of her success also + something Nicki hasn't been able to do in a long time. Even Bartier Cardi with her going on about getting her money up there's still some bars that hit me. XO Tour is great, so are the Kelela tracks. Great set.
Playa Playa Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 So many gems Lens was surprisingly (?) my least fave but it grew a lot on me. Frank really came with his loosies this year.
Navyofbadgals Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 oh wow an update, where do I start LMK and Frontline, both talent, Kelela did that Skywalker is also nice, even though it wasn't as instant as I wish it was. Angel is also nice, very underrated and deserved to smash (even though it was only a promo single) ki
Pink Matter Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 ahh come through with the R&B Angel, Fall In Love, Teenage Fantasy, XO, Lens, LMK, Drew, Skywalker, and Frontline Great set (although I'm still not on the Cardi train ) 6 hours ago, Wicked said: Cardi relates to the everyday girls, I feel that is a huge part of her success also + something Nicki hasn't been able to do in a long time. Tom Vercetti Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 lmk & frontline almost back to back, hehe. I'm not that into Skywalker anymore still goes.
World Eater Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 And now we're talking Bodak Yellow, Lens (there are at least two better tracks Frank released this year tho), XO TOUR Llif3, LMK and Frontline
Jorge Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 SZA and Fifth Harmony songs from The Previous set Paramore, NERD and Chance are my faves, good positions.

lhdang2000 Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 Ew @ Bodak Yellow. Angel is one of the few good songs from FH, so I'm glad it got that recognition.
TRF. Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 Kelela SLAYING also love to see miss Cardi, L'Uzi and Frank.
Sunderland 4ever Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 (edited) SZA and Kelela are my faves. Top 20 already? Bring it on! Edited December 31, 2017 by Sunderland 4ever
