potent Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 Sober is amazing! I kinda like SSL but I don't think they've matched On Hold for me yet this era.
Uncatena Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 The Cure really is addicting, its honestly my fave Gaga sing since BTW, i enjoyed ARTPOP and some of Joanne tho Sober really is a Melo highlight, the production is perfect down to the tiniest last detail. Three Rings and Say Something Loving

Mr. Loco Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 The cure is okay, but John wayne and Million reasons are far better

Ewan Chaos Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 Ooh Real Estate! I liked that record... why the hell have I not listened to it again in ages. Hmmmmm still not a big fan of Say Something Loving lol The opening bit of Sober/the "midnight lose my mind" drew me into the record HARD. Who don't love Gallant - I like that song too. Jorja Smith again!

MP2K Posted December 28, 2017 Author Posted December 28, 2017 (edited) 100-91 90-81 80-71 70-61 60-51 50-41 40. Sylvan Esso, “Die Young” The electronic pop duo is back! To top “Coffee” will be difficult and “Radio”/“Kick Jump Twist” were the more bouncy singles. But “Die Young” still holds its own. It’s a slow-burner with a chorus jam packed with those synths the duo is known for. Spoiler 39. Chance The Rapper, “Same Drugs” A favorite from the 2016 album, but a late bloomer to my chart. This warm, soulful, acoustic piano ballad really held me through January, it was my meditation. Spoiler 38. Sunflower Bean, “I Was a Fool” I discovered the group last year and thought I would drop them so fast. Turns out I’m still interested in where the band could go.They make '60s psychedelic rock and dream-pop tunes and they make heartache sound so sweet. The vocals of the leading female sound gorgeous and heavenly while the male vocals are in a lo-fi sound making it an interesting counterpart to hers as they take turns.I didn’t get a chance to listen to Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile’s work this year, so this indie duet will have to do! Spoiler 37. Paramore, “Told You So” Paramore's been struggling to keep the band intact and haven’t had a huge hit in years. But all of that doesn’t matter because they continue to change their sounds and put out great music that I think is kind of overlooked. Like, did the gp remember Paramore released this year? I mean, it was a busy year for certain genres that I wouldn’t blame them if they forgot. "Told You So" is an 1980s pop, Caribbean and African inspired sound and was an immediate summer jam. Spoiler 36. Mura Masa, “1 Night (feat. Charli XCX)” I can only count on one hand how many Dance/electronic songs were actually good to me this year and “1 Night” was one of them. Charli delivers a **** hook over some tropical drums and together they deliver a summer banger. Spoiler 35. N.E.R.D, “Lemon (feat. Rihanna)” I thought this song was absolutely garbage, I didn’t understand it. But long story short I work with dance kids and one of my coworkers is planning a routine for this record. I was converted after being forced to hear it a thousand times. This record reminded me how much N.E.R.D. is the most innovative Hip-Hop groups, really bring variety into their music, and never fail to produce great production. Rihanna also snapped with her delivery. Spoiler 34. Grimes, “Venus Fly (feat. Janelle Monae)” The results of the creative minds of a Grimes and Janelle Monáe collab: A track that’s high energy, explosive and innovative. Spoiler 33. Dirty Projectors, “Cool Your Heart (feat. Dawn Richard)” DP, Solange and Dawn - this is a star-stuttered indie record. It's a tropical yet futuristic, feel-good track and still has the quirks DP is known for. Dawn’s voice is beautiful as ever. Spoiler 32. Daniel Caesar, “We Find Love” Daniel Caesar is one of the best male R&B acts of 2017. My favorite voices too. “We Find Love” is simple but beautiful and worth the repeat. It's a big anthem ballad you'd imagine John Legend would do. Spoiler 31. SZA, “The Weekend” Songs like this are tricky. You have to be clever, bold and find a way to make it catchy enough so that people won’t feel ashamed to sing along to tacky/controversial lyrics. I think SZA’s got that covered on “The Weekend.” Not to mention the production is killer, has that classic R&B bass and the Justin Timberlake sample throughout the song is fire. Please go checkout “You’re The One” and “My Little Secret” two classic side chick anthems btw. Spoiler . Edited December 28, 2017 by MP2K

Wicked Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 My issue with The Weekend is that it's not well written to me! Still not big on Venus Fly but Same Drugs >>, Paramore too. Great set!
