ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 13, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 13, 2017 oh I TOTALLY forgot about Pond but their album was kinda good! The only Princess Nokia songs I really like are Tomboy and Kitana. So far at least.
bluth Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 this list is speaking to me already. priests, pond, princess nokia, ibeyi, spoon, maggie. whew. slayez moi.
World Eater Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 But Sleater-Kinney released a new song this year Nothing Feels Natural was amazing though, both song and the album Also enjoyed those tracks from Spoon and dvsn
Playa Playa Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Jelly is so nice but I'm here for that shade
TheWayWeWere Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Ibeyi love some tracks from their album
Vilppu Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Amandla's take is definitely an improvement, like Deathless and Do I Have to Talk You Into It a lot too.
Maddox Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Amandla's cover is one of my most played tracks this year Ibeyi, Priests, and Morning After
SLIME Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 I blanked hard on Pond this year lemme queue it up. Priests might have been my top discovery of the year tho idk?? Ibeyi track so spooky I love it
That Bad Eartha Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 I didn't know Amandla released music. Nokia was one of the few female MCs who released this year that I haven't been able to get behind.

So it takes an actress turned vocalist to finesse Mac with an atmospheric, alternative R&B cover. Ewan Chaos Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Hahaha love your description for Elbow. Great song pick too from that record! Same for On & Off. I feel like I need to check out dvsn eventually, esp if I lowkey stan Majid Jordan.
Sunderland 4ever Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 (edited) I loved Nothing Feels Natural, but got tired of it pretty quickly. Good to see Pond and dvsn. Edited December 14, 2017 by Sunderland 4ever
Pink Matter Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Really nice start! Saggy Denim, Morning After, Sweep Me Off My Feet, Nothing Feels Natural, and Deathless are all great choices
K$Ellie Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 On + Off is such a bop, I wish it were higher

Spoon, “Do I Have to Talk You Into It” Battle between this and “Hot Thoughts,” “Do I Have to Talk You Into It” leaves you with a little more suspense. You're going to have to talk me into this choice. No, but really, I like "Do I Have to Talk You Into It". My problem with Hot Thoughts is that it can't possibly hope to live up to my feelings on the title track. The album is fine, but the title track is on another level. It's basically how I felt about Broods' album Conscious last year.
MP2K Posted December 17, 2017 Author Posted December 17, 2017 100-91 90. Drake, “Portland (feat. Quavo & Travis Scott)” Quavo had a great year but Travis Scott is really slept on as a Hook and feat King. Anyway, “Passionfruit” would be an obvious choice but this track here was Drake’s only good standard Hip-Hop song from “Bore Life.” Spoiler 89. Dua Lipa, “Lost In Your Light (feat. Miguel)” Miguel joins Dua on this sweet joyus song and gives her that extra punch. Spoiler 88. SiR, “New LA (feat. Anderson .Paak & King Mez)” SIR is a new R&B discovery of mine from the talented and dominating TDE label. This song samples Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR's "With You” but the breezy production is more fitting for SIR’s sultry vocals and the California crooner Anderson.Paak.. Spoiler 87. Thundercat, “Friend Zone” He’s a massive nerd with a broken heart. It’s like the G-funk “F*** You.” Spoiler 86. Jidenna, “Bambi” I’m not exactly sold on Jidenna to listen to full record of his. He’s on the corny side. However, he delivered a summer banger that’s a sultry slow-burner but equally a bop as “Classic Man.” Spoiler 85. N.E.R.D, “1000 (feat. Future)” I thought “Lemon” was terrible but it grew on me and allowed me to open up to “1000” at first listen. I love the load unfiltered drums, pinching synths and all its unpredictable switch ups and beats. Spoiler 84. TORRES, “Skim” I finally got into TORRES this year. The St. Vincent comparisons helped me. Love a good guitar-led art pop. Spoiler 83. Dirty Projectors, “Little Bubble” Dirty Projectors without Amber Coffman seems sketchy. But Longstreth held his own on this glacial R&B ballad recalling on the comfort of togetherness and emptiness of being alone. One of my favorite tracks at the top of the year. Spoiler 82. Joey Bada$$, “DEVASTATED” He’s more known for his underground 90s East Coast sound but he took the risk from his usual sound to deliver a more commercial approach and showcases a self-awareness. This song sounds like a success even though it may have been the most overlooked hip-hop tracks of the year. Spoiler 81. Alvvays, “In Undertow” Alvvays came back with another dreamy track to recount a breakup where there’s no way to fix what’s left of the relationship. Spoiler .
Pink Matter Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Solid set yet again Lost In Your Light, New LA, Friendzone, Bambi, Little Bubble, and DEVASTATED are all great!
World Eater Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Coming through again Friend Zone is such a bawp, probably my favorite sing from this update Also liked DEVASTADED, In Undertow, Little Bubble and Skim
TheWayWeWere Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 I love both Miguel and Dua, but LIYL just didn't work for me 1000
Playa Playa Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Friend Zone is so dope. A G-funk “F*** You” is the perfect description
Eeveelution Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Friend Zone has nice production but the lyrics are kinda cringe imo. In Undertow and Little Bubble are my faves this set.
