She was everything and she is still coming to all eurovision parties and being invited. I think she will somehow be involved with eurovision in Portugal. we hope so. Quero Ser Tua was so "eurovision" a trash bop. I mean, she did deserve to qualify and she kind of became an Eurovision diva but she is a bit annoying, ahaha. Pedro Posted December 28, 2017 Author Posted December 28, 2017 (edited) Surely a top cateogry we are jumping into right now. I am about to introduce you to my favorite albums of 2017! The album category is always a struggle for me. Judging and evaluating a studio album isn't as simple as judging a song since we're talking about a set of songs, moods, different genres and so on. It is much harder hence why I took longer to update the Best Of. Only two days ago I reached the conclusion on what I wanted to evaluate for the albums in order to make it fair to my personal taste, year and quality. With this being said, I took in consideration four main points to rank the albums: (i) number of plays; (ii) number of loved tracks; (iii) management (era mostly); (iv) retrospective (of the artist's career). Bebe Rexha - "All Your Fault, Pt. I & II" When Bebe Rexha released the first part of her "All Your Fault" EP collection, I was beyond the moon. Songs such as "Gateway Drug", "Small Doses" and the awesome first single "I Got You" blew my mind and I was ready to stan. Nonetheless, not only it took her too long to release the second part but once she did all she conquered in me with the first part was gone as it was quite bad. Despite the amazing "Comfortable", the second part of the EP offers nothing but pretentious music to the listener. Fergie - "Double Dutchess" People were too rough on Fergie but I am yet to understand what happened for her to keep on postponing the album thinking it would've made a difference. In all honesty, no matter when, "Double Dutchess" was meant to flop as she is no longer a household name as she once was. Nonetheless, the final product isn't as bad as everyone makes it look. Songs like "Save It 'Til Morning", "Just Like You" or the awesome "Kleopatra" are quite something and you can tell she's still got it. GENRE(s): Pop, Soul | LENGTH: 35:38 | LABEL: Capitol It was during 2017 that I decided to expand my musical taste and shake away all my prejudice towards artists I disliked such as Sam Smith or even Ed Sheeran. While Ed Sheeran failed to cause a positive impression, Sam conquered me with his sophomore album "The Thrill Of It All". As a gay man, one can truly relate to a lot of Sam's lyrics - "HIM" or "Scars" - and that becomes special. There are obviously tracks I am not a big fan of such as the album's closing track "One Step at a Time" but then you have songs that touch so close to your heart that become experiences such as "Burning", one of the most beautiful and heartfelt songs I have ever heard. While I have never heard his breakthrough record, I can confidently say that Sam did deliver a very good piece of work. Favorite tracks (no specific order): "Burning", "HIM" & "Scars". GENRE(s): Pop, Soft rock | LENGTH: 42:09 | LABEL: Interscope Judge me. I am ready for your sticks and stones but I can proudly say Maroon 5's sixth studio album is an upgrade from their previous attempts ("V" or "Overexposed"). While it features a lot of easy hits and generic songs, damn it! They're still so good. How can one resist the catchy "Wait", the sexual "Lips On You", the cute "Bet My Heart" or even the groovy "Closure"? I seriously don't know. On top of that, this record does have a concept and that's impressive as they were able to find one among this type of music. I also didn't know they were now a seven piece group. I do admid that "Red Pills Blues" adds nothing to the music industry yet it adds fun, bops and good feelings to my playlists. Favorite tracks (no specific order): "Bet My Heart", "Wait" & "Help Me Out". GENRE(s): Electropop | LENGTH: 44:24 | LABEL: Island Just like last year, I wouldn't have expected to include Tove Lo in my album list but here she is delivering once more a great record. I genuinely prefer "Blue Lips" to "Lady Wood" as I find it more personal, vulnerable and relatable. I am not listening to a song that barely has any focus on the lyrics and is all about the sounds. In "Blue Lips", she finds space to deliver such bops such as the single "Disco T*ts" but then she finds a way of delivering something more emotional in her own way. The great "Don't Ask Don't Tell" or "9th Of October" are some of the best examples. Did y'all know she mentions Fifth Harmony during "Bitches"? What an impact! Favorite tracks (no specific order): "Don't Ask Don't Tell", "Bad Days" & "9th of October". GENRE(s): Pop | LENGTH: 50:31 | LABEL: Epic I know I am kind of exposing myself as a generic music lover but Zara Larsson had more to offer in "So Good". The first times I took a listen to her first international record I wasn't sure. I did find it quite generic and something Rihanna would do during the "Loud" era but while admitting it sounded generic, it is also impossible to resist to such bops such as "I Would Like" or "TG4M". On top of that, she delivered some amazing slower songs such as "Only You" and the beautiful "Don't Let Me Be Yours" or "Funeral". Let me not ignore the so good "So Good" and the joyful "Symphony" with Clean Bandit. Overall, Zara did deliver a great product meant to sell. While it didn't sell physically, it surely did when it comes to the digital world. Favorite tracks (no specific order): "Don't Let Me Be Yours", "Funeral" & "Only You". GENRE(s): Alternative Pop | LENGTH: 71:56 | LABEL: Interscope For the very first time since her breakthrough album as Lana Del Rey, I truly enjoyed, played and streamed another album from her. "Honeymoon" wasn't bad nor was "Ultraviolence"... Well, the latter did suck a little, but other than that it's not like they were horrible, they just were less appealing overall and only truly delivered a couple of tracks. What I also truly loved about "Lust For Life" was its cohesiveness, topics and message overall. I felt like Lana kind of become Mother Teresa for this record. Not only she empowered all of us with "Beautiful People Beautiful Problems" and all women with "God Bless America - And All The Beautiful Women In It" but she even smilled at us in the album's cover! Favorite tracks (no specific order): "Cherry", "Tomorrow Never Came (feat. Sean Ono Lennon)" & "In My Feelings". Next: More Albums of 2017 + First taste of 2017's singles NOTE: As long as you're one of the members present in the comments section of this (and the previous) set, expect a post from me in your Best Of.
