potent Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 I'm not a huge fan of this set but Fergie's and Lana's were okay.
Ghostlysnaker Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Fergie, Maroon 5, The Chainsmokers and Charlie Puth

lhdang2000 Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Attention + What Lovers Do + Cut To The Feelings + So Good + Comme Moi. I agree that Nicki > Cardi B. Charlie/Ed/Bieber is more of a male trinity than Charlie/Shawn/Bieber to me.

Pedro Posted January 5, 2018 Author Posted January 5, 2018 (edited) Let's move on with a few more singles that rocked my 2017! 70. Lorde - "Perfect Places" Everything about "Perfect Places" is (literally) perfect. The song, the video, the single cover, the meaning, the production... It has such a nice and unique vibe and it's actually sad to witness how bad it did and how it never truly took off. One of my favorite parts of this song is the way it ends, I love when songs have an unexpected twist towards the end... Remember Ciara's "I Bet"? "What the **** are perfect places anyway?" 1st out of two apearances from Lorde. 69. Kygo & Selena Gomez - "It Ain't Me" Even though I truly loved Selena Gomez' music throughout 2017, I must confess I sensed a bit of inconsistency. She would put out unique sounds such as "Bad Liar" and then collaborate and release EDM songs such as this one. Well, that's just a point I felt relevant saying. As for "It Ain't Me", it became such a huge song and truly represents what the GP wants from Selena. When it comes to Kygo - who is also part of the song - I guess he needs to be a little more inovative with his productions. 1st and only apearance from Kygo. 1st out of three apearances from Selena Gomez. 68. Ed Sheeran - "Shape Of You" Ugh. I can't stand Ed Sheeran, therefore it was a complete torture appreciating a song of his. In fact, because of "Shape Of You", I even gave a listen to his horrendous record "Divide". It was a waste of my time and I so wish I don't have to like any song of his again. "Shape Of You" had a basic and more Pop production, nice hooks and I couldn't resist. I am glad radios are now stopping to play it. Even though this is #68, doesn't mean I didn't get sick of it. 1st and only apearance from Ed Sheeran. 67. Jana Burcheska - "Dance Alone" It wasn't love at first sight but I can completely see why "Dance Alone" quickly became a fan favorite of Eurovision fans. It has a very nice laid back production, groovy and extremely catchy. On top of that, it resembles a lot of modern productions or something singers like Charli XCX could pull. Well, Jana didn't make it past the semifinal and deservedly so as she added horrible sounds to the live version. 6th out of 18 appearances from artists of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. 66. Francesco Gabbani - "Occidentali's Karma" Similarly to "Dance Alone", the first time I heard the Italian entry, I wasn't very impressed and was actually shocked to find out it was the favorite to win. His voice is not as subtle as one would think, the track is in Italian, the production is not a traditional Pop one... Nonetheless, months after, I was completely hooked on it and until today I still sing along to this funny and ironic track. In the end, it didn't even finish Top 3. 7th out of 18 appearances from artists of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. 65. Evanescence - "Imperfection" I was so happy to know Evanescence were back and thrilled to have liked their song so I could include it here. What I love the most about "Imperfection" is how faithful they remain to their sound. Amy Lee & Co. have not included rock productions in their "Synthesis" and decided to go with an orchestra and electronic sounds. Well, even with that they didn't follow trends and delivered a very consistent and coherent track. Amy's vocals sound as good as they did 10 years ago. 1st and only appearance from Evanescence. 64. Cheat Codes - "No Promises (feat. Demi Lovato)" I wasn't expecting to rank "No Promises" this high. It never stood out for me while it was completely overplayed by the radios in Portugal. In fact, it's Demi Lovato's only single, along with "Instruction", that got airplay from national radios. She is a nonfactor, sadly. Well, as for the song, when building up my Best Of, I just found it so fresh, cute and catchy. Nonetheless, what's up with this unknown bands scoring hits for major superstars ("Say Something" by Christina Aguilera)? 1st and only apearance from Cheat Codes. 1st out of three apearances from Demi Lovato. 63. Sunstroke Project - "Hey Mamma" Moldova slayed last year's Eurovision Song Contest with "Hey Mamma". The catchy saxophone ended up going more viral than the actual winner. Even though most fans saw it as a guilty pleasure, Sunstroke Project did win everyone's hearts and ended up ranking within the top 3. I was genuinely happy for them. It makes me think: "Is the saxophone the trick to score a hit?" Look at "Worth It" by Fifth Harmony! 8th out of 18 appearances from artists of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. 62. Zara Larsson - "Only You" I wish people would pay more attention to Zara Larsson, the singer, other than Zara Larsson the hitmaker. While many may laugh at this song, afrer all she sings "I don't wanna shower even if I stink", the song is truly special and heartfelt. It is a huge statement when we admit we love someone else more than we love ourselves. It's also scary but can be real and "Only You" represents that perfectly. 2nd out of five appearances from Zara Larsson. 61. Clean Bandit - "I Miss You (feat. Julia Michaels)" Why are Clean Bandit so good? They're truly the only acts out there that get hit after hit without sounding generic or desperate. Their style is so unique and the addition of the violin does wonders. I find it so interesting how the mood of the song keeps on changing from verse to chorus and vice-versa. It can sound so sad (due to the violin and due to Julia's vocals) and then so uplifting due to the beat. The tropical sounds are also a plus. 1st out of two appearances from Clean Bandit. 1st and only appearance from Julia Michaels. 60. Barei - "I Don't Need To Be You" Former Eurovision act, Barei, released a new song in 2017. "I Don't Need To Be You" follows the Pop Dance trend she took to Eurovision Song Contest 2016 and surely defines her. At first, I wasn't very happy with it but when I finally got into the pre-chorus, I fell in love. The song also follows the theme of most of Barei's repertoire as she fights prejudice and discrimination. On top of that, Barei's English is really good, something unexpected for a Spanish person, and her tone is so pleasant! 1st and only appearance from Barei. 59. Blanche - "City Lights" Surely one of the best productions at this year's Eurovision. Belgium has really been trying to win and they did come close this year. Blanche has a very unique voice and her song, despite being Pop, is a sort of Pop someone like Lorde would pull. Throughout the year, I have been quite hot and cold with "City Lights" though. Sometimes, I find it so amazing and, other times, so dated and boring. I guess I was able to find a midterm. 9th out of 18 appearances from artists of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. 58. Salvador Sobral - "Amar Pelos Dois" And here it is. It wasn't the winner of my Best Of yet it was the winner of Eurovision and gave my country - Portugal - its very first victory in the competition. In fact, it's undeniable how touching and emotional this song is. If you don't speak Portuguese and get touched by this beautiful Pop Jazz tune, imagine a Portuguese person who actually understands what he is singing. The lyrics are sad and heartbreaking and Salvador's tone is just so gentle, sweet and caring. Truly a song that will be remembered forever in my country. 10th out of 18 appearances from artists of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. 57. Nicki Minaj - "Regret In Your Tears" Can I just start this mini-review by praising the single's cover art? It looks incredible! Her pose, hair, sensibility... Everything is on point! Just like the track. "Regret In Your Tears" deserved better but I guess Nicki wasn't yet ready for a full era as she released three songs and disappeared. Well, I truly like when Nicki goes a bit outside of her Rap comfort zone and delivers more touching songs with actual singing. The vibe of the songs reminds me of the epic "High School" which remains my favorite Nicki tune of all time. Hopefully we get a new album this year! 1st out of three appearances from Nicki Minaj. 56. The Weeknd - "I Feel It Coming (feat. Daft Punk)" I have never been a huge fan of The Weeknd but he kind of delivered with his latest album. Thing is, his songs were "too cool" for me besides being overplayed by the radio and loved by everyone. If there's something I truly dislike are overhyped acts or songs. While he continued to be overhyped, his songs got more Pop and, of course, better. On top of that, Daft Punk can do no wrong and obviously gave him that je ne sais quoi they always deliver. 1st out of two appearances from The Weeknd. 1st and only appearance from Daft Punk. 55. David Guetta - "2U (feat. Justin Bieber)" I am really sorry but Justin Bieber's voice fits this type of songs too well and make them irresistible. Don't judge me, I beg you. In fact, I would've never expected to rank "2U" almost in my top 50 but, hey! Here it is! Besides Bieber's smooth vocals throughout the entire song, the beat is sick, especially during the break. I guess this song was always meant to smash, I mean... Bieber and Guetta? 1st and only appearance from David Guetta and Justin Bieber. 54. Lana Del Rey - "Love" "Love" was such a new sound for Lana Del Rey. Of course it still is very her but it was less sad and happier. She usually sings about heartbreak and not so happy topics yet in "Love" she totally created an empowerment anthem for the younger generation and, in fact, there isn't that many songs like this one. I also love the production and the heavenly feeling you get listening to it. I am glad it ended up doing better than her previous first singles. 3rd out of four appearances from Lana Del Rey. 53. Svala - "Paper" Iceland keeps on delivering and Europe continues to ignore them. They've been sending great entries for the past three years and never qualified for the Eurovision Final. Well, this year I truly had hope as Svala was quite appealing visually, her song was extremely Pop and all that. I guess the performance ended up hurting her overall result as it was quite uneventful - she just stood there walking around while singing. Well, "Paper" is still amazing and truly one of my favorites from last year's competition. 11th out of 18 appearances from artists of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. 52. Mariah Carey - "I Don't (feat. YG)" I will probably be the only person in this forum to include Mariah's main release of the year on their Best Of but I am proud of being such person. "I Don't" truly gives us bad b*tch Mariah teas and I love it. It's not a song that vocally challenges the eternal Diva yet, the beat and the R&B vibe are sick. As usual, the lyrics are relatable as most of her lyrics and, at the same time, empowering. I truly hope "someday" she will be "triumphant" again. 2nd and last appearance from Mariah Carey. 1st and only appearances from YG. 51. Isaiah - "Don't Come Easy" Watch the Eurovision fans completely me trash for this. The first time I heard "Don't Come Easy", I wasn't very happy with it either but with time, it grew on me big time. Not only Isaiah's vocals are so nice to listen to but the song represents a mature, not cheesy, ballad that ends up having an amazing production and never really goes over the top... Which brings me to his Eurovision performs where, for some strange reason, he brought his inner-Mariah Carey and decided to do weird runs that went completely off key. Well, the studio version is more important. 12th out of 18 appearances from artists of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. potent Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 There are some masterpieces on this set like IFIC, Perfect Places, and Love Shape of You was also good and I Miss You, although I think Clean Bandit did get a little desperate with Rockabye lol

MusicLoverDude Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 Sorry for just now commenting on your countdown. Dom Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 YASSS at Blanche, winner of ESC in my book. love "love" by lana too low tho. svala's paper was so underrated in esc, uh. performance was highkey awful tho (her **** popping out) no promises is great. Jana Burčeska underrated af.

Pedro Posted January 6, 2018 Author Posted January 6, 2018 Half done! 50 to go, here are my main favorite singles of 2017! 50. Steve Aoki & Lauren Jauregui - "All Night" Lauren served! I wasn't expecting such a great and nice Pop song coming from her who has now teamed up with Halsey and Marian Hill whose music style don't really come close to this. I guess "All Night" proves Lauren has a perfect tone for the Pop Industry and can indeed serve amazing Dance Pop music. I truly hope "All Night" gets a real single treatment during 2018. Wasn't a video for it ready anyway? 1st and only appearance from Steve Aoki and Lauren Jauregui (as a solo act). 49. Jason Derulo - "Swalla (feat. Ty Dolla $ign & Nicki Minaj)" Just like there's horrendous Pop songs meant for straight people, there's also nice Pop songs meant for such audience as well. "Swalla" has such a nice, fun and unique sound. Of course Nicki and Ty do help. It's curious, though how many hits Jason has scored yet he is such a nonfactor as an artist as no one truly checks out for him. The break in "Swalla" is so infectious, fun and unique, I truly love it and I don't regret ranking this within my top 50. 1st and only appearance from Jason Derulo. 2nd and last appearance from Ty Dolla $ign. 2nd out of three appearances from Nicki Minaj. 48. Little Mix - "Touch" Who would've predicted that Little Mix would release good Pop music? No one, I know but they did. I remember the first time I heard this song, I was shook and mad as I didn't want to support them but being a music lover does require you to be open minded and I do respect that. "Touch" is truly one of the best main pop songs of the year and it's sad it ended up not taking off... Internationally as everything they release takes off in their country. Anyway, props to them for becoming better Pop artists! 2nd and last appearance from Little Mix. 47. Selena Gomez & Marshmello - "Wolves" Here's one more from Selena Gomez. "Wolves" is such a nice Pop song and it brings Selena back to her EDM roots just like "It Ain't Me" did. What comes off as a surprise to me is how the song became so big on the radios as, despite being a great song, it can come off as a bit dated. Well, I guess Selena's collabs with EDM artists always result in a huge worldwide hit. Remember "I Want You To Know"? 3rd out of four appearances from Selena Gomez. 1st and only appearance from Marshmello. 46. Zara Larsson - "I Would Like" Zara slayed with this song. It follows the trend of her hits "Lush Life" or "Ain't My Fault" - a nice Pop Dance song completely designed to smash. The usage of the sample has been done in an amazing way and, is it just me or Zara's song don't age? No matter how many times I've heard this song in the radios or in the club, it didn't impact my love for it! The same can be said about "Lush Life". She has a very pleasant tone, I guess that helps! 3rd out of five appearances from Zara Larsson. 45. Lana Del Rey - "Lust For Life (feat. The Weeknd)" It took me a while to get used to this song but once I did, I fell in love with it. The song is and feels unusual and I wouldn't have expected The Weeknd's vocals to fit so well with Lana's. "Lust For Life" is not easy to describe as it isn't Pop while it touches there, it isn't full R&B nor Jazz, Soul or even Alternative the way Lana generally does. My favorite part is obviously the chorus as it stands out and makes the song so catchy. She is so classy, ugh! 4th and last appearance from Lana Del Rey. 2nd and last appearance from The Weeknd. 44. Taylor Swift - "...Ready For It?" Taylor Swift is one of a kind... Not talent-wise as she isn't that talented yet as an artist. I have never seen an artist getting so much hate and then slaying the way she does. "...Ready For It?" is a great song and, as usual with Taylor, has an awesome production. It reminds me, along with its video, of a song that'd be in soundtrack for a movie like Transformers. Anyway, the change of tempo and register from the verses to chorus and then after chorus are sick. It goes from a badass song to such a dreamy mood. 1st out of two appearances from Taylor Swift. 43. Rita Ora - "Anywhere" If it wasn't enough to start tolerating Little Mix's music during 2017, there was another act who decided it was time to release good Pop music: Rita Ora. Coincidence they're both british. It took me a while to like "Your Song" but "Anywhere" was love at first "sight". The song sums up happiness, love and freedom and that break after the chorus makes me want to go wild. I hope I get to listen to this song in the club soon as it must be a great experience. Hopefully Rita continues to release good music. 1st and only appearance from Rita Ora. 42. Lorde - "Homemade Dynamite" Please know this is NOT about the remix Lorde decided to release, it's about the album-version. The song is so unique and out of the box. It literally sounds like nothing out there... Not even with her other singles - "Green Light" or "Perfect Places". The production of the song is out of this world and despite the song talking about partying and having fun, the production is so dark and underground, it creates a weird yet fascinating atmosphere. Lorde may not have had an amazing year when it comes to commercial success yet she delivered quality! 2nd and last appearance from Lorde. 41. Dihaj - "Skeletons" One more Eurovision song. "Skeletons" was the Azerbaijani song of the year and probably one of the best and most bold productions of the year. It is a dark pop song that could easily be sung by an artist like Halsey and, of course, ended up doing great. Dihaj has a very nice and smooth yet strong tone. On top of that, she is fierce and has a great fashion sense. As for the song "Skeletons" talks about one of those relationships where you're so addicted to him/her that you are willing to give him/her your "skeletons". Ouch! 13th out of 18 appearances from artists of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. 40. Ana Malhoa - "Ampulheta" This was the #1 song in my best of non-english/spanish songs of 2017 and it almost crashed the top 40 of my overall best of singles chart, wow! A Portuguese song that made me do all this must be a good one, don't you think? I wasn't expecting such slayage coming from Bomba Latina, Ana Malhoa but she did deliver a major bop. The song has such an infectious beat and a catchy chorus. It's a club banger and such a fresh sound in Ana's repertoire. 1st and only appearance from Ana Malhoa. 39. OG3NE - "Lights and Shadows" At first "Lights and Shadows" didn't impress me much. It was far from being among my top 10 for Eurovision 2017 but surprise, surprise, it reached top 5! It is such a powerful, light and nice Pop song. On top of that, the three sisters are so talented. It is, in fact, an anthem and that's what defines Eurovision songs for me. I knew they weren't going to win but I expected a bit more than #11. Europe can be tasteless sometimes. 14th out of 18 appearances from artists of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. 38. Alan Walker, Noah Cyrus & Digital Farm Animals - "All Falls Down" I didn't even play this song that many times by myself yet it gives me a feeling many don't. It may be unfair to be above many songs I played a lot during 2017, nonetheless I love how uplifting it sounds and how that break after the chorus elevates it even more. Heartbreaks aren't easy and I'd dare to say uplifting songs - like this one - are way better than sad, heartbreaking songs to heal the wound. The sad ones will make you want to cry your eyes out. 1st and only appearance from Alan Walker and Noah Cyrus. 2nd and last appearance from Digital Farm Animals. 37. Maroon 5 - "Cold (feat. Future)" Unlike their most recent singles - "Don't Wanna Know" or "What Lovers Do" - "Cold" follows a way darker Pop trend and reminds us of something like "Animals" that was spectacular as well and, to be honest, I much rather listen from Adam & Co. It also sounds less generic. "Cold" was, in fact, a huge single for Maroon 5 in Europe, their biggest from this most recent era. Glad the public chose well. 2nd and last appearance from Maroon 5 and Future. 36. Robin Bengtsson - "I Can't Go On" Don't worry. We're almost done with Eurovision acts as there's only three more to go. Sweden is an Eurovision master and one of the show's biggest winners. The last time they won takes us back to 2015 and Robin wasn't too far this year with this Pop perfection called "I Can't Go On". Besides the amazing song, the performance was just phenomenal. It's impossible to listen to this song and not catch yourself singing to it a few minutes after. 15th out of 18 appearances from artists of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. 35. Zara Larsson - "Don't Let Me Be Yours" While this may be perceived as a generic track, I love it, I love it, I love it. I love how Zara's music and lyrics are so current and dedicated to the young generation. In this song, she discusses if there'll be love between her and the guy she met in the club "tomorrow", "without alcohol in your veins", "without makeup on my face". I truly like this. On top of that, the beat is infectious and takes the song to a whole new level. 4th out of five appearances from Zara Larsson. 34. Lady Gaga - "The Cure" Oh Gaga! Joanne was so boring, she didn't even last an entire era. I am kidding. I didn't mind her but I'd much rather Mother Monster. "The Cure" is a healing track that shares happiness and good vibes towards the listener. There's so little songs like that... Everything is generally so sad, heavy and heartbreaking. With this being said, songs like "The Cure" truly make a difference. I never really understood the comparisons to The Chainsmokers? 1st and only appearance from Lady Gaga. 33. Miley Cyrus - "Malibu" Miley goes by the "expect the unexpected". After such a huge and controversial era like "Bangerz" and after than demoniac album that I truly hated, she releases a Pop Country lullaby that erases everything she previously did from the GP's mind and allows her to score a huge hit... Even bigger than "We Can't Stop" in my country, for example. Well the song is beautiful and for someone who's in a relationship surely touches close to the heart as one can relate and smile while listening to it. 1st and only appearance from Miley Cyrus. 32. Alma - "Requiem" Before you ask, I didn't include "Requiem" in my favorite non-english/spanish songs of 2017 simply because the most important part of the song - the chorus - is in English. It wouldn't be fair. Anyway! France has been delivering great entries for Eurovision and they're obviously wanting to win. Alma didn't do as good as last year's Amir, mostly because of her boring performance. In such a huge stage such as the Eurovision stage, she is all alone there with an upbeat song? Wrong! Fix this, France! As for the song, it mixes Pop with tradition and with violins - my favorite instrument. 16th out of 18 appearances from artists of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. 31. Camila Cabello - "I Have Questions" I didn't love this at first. I found it too dramatic, too sad and a bit over the top. Nonetheless, the lyrics speak for themselves and you can tell it's not over the top... It's Camila showcasing her emotions in a song. It's not the regular ballad you'd hear as it even sounds quite haunting and even disturbing with such specific vocabulary ("spit it out"). At this present moment I can't find a flaw for this song. Her vocals are on point just like the production and the lyrics are superb. 3rd out of five appearances from Camila Cabello.
