shelven Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 All Night, Wolves, Homemade Dynamite, The Cure Swalla is a cute fun bop, and as much as I hate to admit, IHQ isn't bad
lhdang2000 Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 Homemade Dynamite is too low. But at least it's the highest Lorde's song. Touch + Wolves + I Would Like + Malibu + many more. I'm excited about your top 30.

Pedro Posted January 10, 2018 Author Posted January 10, 2018 (edited) Two sets to go! 30 to go, here are my main favorite singles of 2017! 30. Kesha - "Learn To Let Go" It was love at first sight with "Learn to Let Go". I was a bit unsure about the verses as it sounded too simplistic without a big momentum, yet when the chorus kicked in and that contagious, catchy words were brought to live, I was sold. Even though I love this song, I am not sure it was the right choice to release it as a single. The theme is quite similar to what she sings about in "Praying" - yet to come - and, of course, people want more from Kesha than empowering songs as they know now everything that has happened and obviously sympathize with her. 3rd out of four appearances from Kesha. 29. Amy Lee - "Love Exists" I had no idea how much I appreciated this song but I really do. Amy's vocals are powerful, warm and relaxing just like the song itself. "Love Exists" discusses what love is and the answer is not very conclusive yet it corresponds to what it truly is: "Love makes no sense, love has no name. Love drowns you in tears and then sets your heart on fire". I wish she would invest more in her solo career so she could serve more beautiful songs as "Love Exists". There's a reason why my favorite Evanescence's songs are the less "noisy ones". 1st and only appearance from Amy Lee. 28. Katy Perry - "Chained To The Rhythm (feat. Skip Marley)" The day Katy announced she was coming back, I flipped and I knew she would deliver an amazing Pop tune. The day "Chained To The Rhythm" was released, it was on repeat all day as it was such a fresh release. Everyone was doing Urban Pop and Katy delivered amazing Pop Dance. It was completely overplayed by Portuguese radio and a huge hit for her in Europe yet I still can jam to it and have fun. I love the lyrics, I love how it is not overproduced and just how catchy it is. For you, haters, that wanted Katy to flop badly, it didn't happen with this phenomenal comeback single, sorry! 1st out of four appearances from Katy Perry. 1st and only appearance from Skip Marley. 27. Selena Gomez - "Fetish (feat. Gucci Mane)" Selena Gomez keeps on proving why she is the most interesting act out of the "newer" Pop girls. She can pull any music genre and still sound good. After the alternative "Bad Liar", she comes full force with a dope Urban Pop anthem and damn! The song fits her tone like a glove. It's like she has been doing this genre for decades. She knows exactly what she's doing, she knows what her audience wants and she keeps on serving quality time after time. At this point, she can release any genre that it will be played all around the world and end up being successful thanks to her name. 3rd and last appearance from Selena Gomez. 1st out of two appearances from Gucci Mane. 26. Calvin Harris - "Feels (feat. Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry & Big Sean)" Here are the ingredients for a smash summer hit: mix smooth sounds with a catchy chorus sung by Katy Perry. Get Pharrell Williams on the track with his happy tone and, of course, don't forget a rapper so it can crossover. It helps if you're one of the biggest DJs out there. While I am obviously kidding, "Feels" is such a feel good song, it is irresistible and makes me want to jam each time I am listening to it. Katy's part is obviously my favorite as it gives the song the catchy factor. Also, her voice sounds very different, and smoother, from what it usually.and I love it! 1st and only appearance from Calvin Harris, Pharrell Williams and Big Sean. 2nd out of four appearances from Katy Perry. 25. Anastacia - "Caught In The Middle" I am probably one of the few members in ATRL who still pays attention to Anastacia and to her releases. During 2017, Anastacia released a new album along with a couple of singles. While the album felt like a let down, the first single surpassed my expectations. With a very unusual production for her standards, Anastacia brought a more unique and tribal vibe to her sound and didn't leave behind the catchy factor. One thing that makes me love this even more is the fact that it could easily be an Eurovision entry. 1st and only appearance from Anastacia. 24. Katy Perry - "Swish Swish (feat. Nicki Minaj)" What a jam. Once again Katy proved haters wrong by serving a "Dark Horse" Pt. II. Not as big obviously but the way this song held so strong before becoming an official single, supported by a music video, was impressive. At first, I wasn't very impressed with "Swish Swish" as I had been completely blown away by her previous two releases but with time, I started appreciating more and more its underground sound, her sexy and her whispering voice throughout the song and, of course, Nicki Minaaaaj! 3rd out of four appearances from Katy Perry. 3rd and last appearance from Nicki Minaj. 23. Zedd & Alessia Cara - "Stay" This song's chorus is simply brilliant. The beat is cute too but the chorus is catchy, captivating and so monumental. It's also the reason why the song is so high. I generally love Zedd's productions as they are easy to listen to and easy to like and relate. He is very mainstream and while many can accuse him of creating dated productions, I could care less. Keep on delivering such bops, King! The autotune in Alessia's vocals is what truly elevates this song. Whenever the chorus kicks in, it makes me feel so in the moment. It is a bit hard to explain but if you love the song as much as I do, you'll understand. 1st and only appearance from Zedd and Alessia Cara. 22. Katy Perry - "Bon Appetit (feat. Migos)" Everything about this song and single is perfect and it truly hurts me not being able to place Katy Perry's best single of the year within my top 20. Not only this brings Pop back to life in its finest form but her sexy vocals make it so dreamy and create this perfect sexy environment. Unlike "Swish Swish", I fell in love with the song the first time I heard it and, since I had loved "Chained To The Rhythm", Katy had me stanning once more. I am sad the song ended up flopping and it truly shocks me how atrocious tunes like "Despacito" smashed and Pop Perfection tunes such as "Bon Appetit" bombed. 4th and last appearance from Katy Perry. 1st and only appearance from Migos. 21. Artsvik - "Fly With Me" Missing the top 20 is one of the last Eurovision Song Contest songs to appear. This one comes from Armenia (probably my favorite country in the competition) and along brought a lot of tradition and culture into the competition. I was extremely sad to find out it did quite bad as it is such a phenomental song. Besides the vocalist, Artsvik, is extremely talented. The way it starts smoothly will trick you as it ends in a complete explosion of high vocals mixed with a very fast paced instrumental filled with Amernian traditional sounds. 2017 celebrated diversity in Eurovision but only some diversity. 17th out of 18 appearances from artists of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. 20. Fergie - "Save It Til Morning" Wait! We have reached the top 20? At last! Well, Fergie is doing the honors with her powerful ballad "Save It Til Morning" that could be considered to be a younger sister of her 2006 hit "Big Girls Don't Cry". "Morning" is easily the best song and single off "Double Dutchess". Its production is on point, its lyrics are extremely relatable and her vocals are stronger than ever. I usually am not a fan of big ballads yet "Morning" stands out for not sounding cheese yet powerful, deep and meaningful. It also contains a huge message: "But these dark skies are gonna be clear just save it til morning". 2nd and last appearance from Fergie. 19. Jax Jones - "Instruction (feat. Demi Lovato & Stefflon Don)" Serve! What a phenomenal fresh and unique song coming from Jax Jones along with Demi Lovato. I really don't know Stefflon and her part is the worst for me in the song so let's ignore her with all due respect. What I truly love about "Instruction" is how unique it is. It mixes Brazilian traditional sounds with electronical music and it couldn't sound any better, it's flawless. On top of that the chorus, sung by Lovato, is out of the world. It is filled by attitude, fierceness and sexiness. On top of that, she barely showcases her strong vocals in the song which sometimes it's a breath of fresh air. 1st and last appearance from Jax Jones and Stefflon Don. 2nd out of three appearances from Demi Lovato. 18. Demi Lovato - "Tell Me You Love Me" Who would've thought I would be placing two Demi Lovato's songs within my top 20? I am as shocked as you're but she truly served with "Tell Me You Love Me". I was anything but a fan of "Sorry Not Sorry" yet she redeemed herself by delivering an amazing, mature and extremely well produced second single that, sadly, won't be as successful as the first single. Even though it's obviously a Pop song, "Tell Me You Love Me" sounds so much different than everything else. It feels raw, unique and dramatic. 3rd and last appearance from Demi Lovato. 17. Fifth Harmony - "Down (feat. Gucci Mane)" Fifth Harmony's first single without Camila Cabello had me bald. I was so in love with this minimalistic Pop production and I was sure it would smash. Up until today I am sure it could've done better if they had a more efficient team behind them who would've fought for this. It can be seen as a "Work From Home" Pt. II and if that one was such a massive smash why wouldn't "Down" follow the same road? The right promotion, the right timing, the right video... All that was missing. Anyway, "Down" is such a nice bop and truly had a huge impact in my year. 1st out of four appearances from Fifth Harmony. 2nd and last appearance from Gucci Mane. 16. Camila Cabello - "Crying In The Club" Camila's first solo single after departing from Fifth Harmony was a huge moment for me as well. Even though I always thought this was very Sia and Camila was capable of delivering something better and more unique, truth is I have always loved the song as I truly appreciated Camila's tone. Her voice has that je ne sais quoi capable of making any song nice and pleasant. Unlike "Down", "Crying In The Club" had a huge promotion agenda but the single never took off. I truly think the GP wanted something more unique from her and they got it... "Havana", yet to come. 3rd out of four appearances from Camila Cabello. 15. Clean Bandit - "Symphony (feat. Zara Larsson)" Everything about "Symphony" is special, is a moment and completely unique. Not only the instrumental, as Clean Bandit have gotten us used to, has that smooth and elegant touch to it but Zara's vocals are on point. The mix between the beat and Zara's voice turns this song into something special as mentioned before. You feel good listening to it, it makes you happy and transmits good vibes towards the listener. I have to admit that its video helped a lot in turning this song into something even more special. 2nd and last appearance from Clean Bandit. 5th and last appearance from Zara Larsson. 14. Kesha - "Praying" 2017 was quite a year for ballads and slow tempos, wasn't it? Truth it, as mentioned a couple of times before, I am not a huge fan of such songs. Most of them come off as cheesy, overdone and cringeworthy but not "Praying". In fact, Kesha's single had everything for me to dislike it but she turned something cheesy into something mature, fresh and powerful. Even though she obviously plays the victim here, she shows forgiveness and she shows strength. Just like everyone else, I was completely out of my mind when I heard her whistle as I wasn't expecting it. "Praying" was truly one of the highlights of 2017. Welcome back, Kesha! 4th and last appearance from Kesha. 13. Anne-Marie - "Ciao Adios" I was caught off guard when I heard this song for the first time. At the time... Well, even as for today, it sounds fresh and, to be honest, I have played it so many times anyone else would be completely sick of it. Not only I love its rhythm and production but the lyrics are genius. The way Anne-Marie sounds down during the verses and ends up turning into an empowering woman during the chorus is awesome and such a breath of fresh air. This song is also special to me as it was released when I went on vacations to Amsterdam and I would be always singing it wherever I went. 1st and only appearance from Anne-Marie. 12. Anja - "Where I Am" Talking about special songs... Here is the very last one from Eurovision Song Contest 2017. Australian Anja represented Denmark in the competition and flopped badly. Nonetheless, she obviously was the singer with the best voice and higher range. "Where I Am" is a midtempo that just feels good to listen to. The song talks about love and about laying down your armour to the person you love. Anja's vocals turn this song so powerful. I am sure if someone else sung it, it wouldn't be as good or as special. I actually had the opportunity of meeting her a few months ago and she is a great person as well. 18th and last appearance from artists of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. 11. Pitbull & Fifth Harmony - "Por Favor (Spanglish Version)" One more from Fifth Harmony, this time with Pitbull onboard. It was released quite late during the year yet it was enough for me to overplay it and I still freak out when I listen to it on the radio. The song is very summerish, soft and extremely catchy. The girls sound so sexy and the only time they really go high on notes is Normani during the chorus ("more, more, more!"). Lauren's talking part is great as well along with Dinah's singing part before the final chorus kicks in ("if you tell me, if you tell me"). I'd like to point out this praise is entirely dedicated to the Spanglish version as it is well distributed. 1st and only appearance from Pitbull. 2nd out of four appearances from Fifth Harmony. rvx Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Feels + Praying + Chained To The Rhythm I personally don't like Bon Appetit. It's shamelessly cringworthy (even without THAT music video) and I am seriously shocked that there are those such yourself that think that the song is in any way that great.
Pedro Posted January 12, 2018 Author Posted January 12, 2018 (edited) The final set is finally here! It's time for you to get to know my ten favorite singles of 2017! 10. Camila Cabello - "Havana (feat. Young Thug)" I always believed that Camila Cabello would do it big and be extremely successful... Not with this song though! It's not like I don't like "Havana" (duh, it's in my top 10) but I wasn't prepared for the huge takeover and I never thought this type of latin americanized Pop would do wonders and dominate the world in such a short period of time as it did. On top of that, it was such a natural hit! "She did that!" and she truly deserves all of the success she got and keeps on getting. "Havana" is sexy, catchy and unique! 4th and last appearance from Camila Cabello. 1st and only appearance from Young Thug. 09. Shakira - "Perro Fiel (feat. Nicky Jam)" Seriously, only Shakira to make me appreciated reggaeton as I truly dislike it. Shakira's tone is extremely sexy and has always been that way but in "Perro Fiel" it is even more as she kind of drags the words she is singing all the time. I also love her Colombian accent and the way she pronounces a few words really drives me crazy. As for Nicky Jam, I am not a big fan of his tone or even accent but all I need is Shakira, so... Lastly, "Perro Fiel" can come off as a bit basic (just like every reggaeton song) but, yeah, Shakira... Again. She elevates every song she touches. 2nd out of four appearances from Shakira. 1st and only appearance from Nicky Jam. 08. Kelly Clarkson - "Love So Soft" Do you know the meaning of "delivering"? If not, ask Kelly as she delivered a complete masterpiece. The first few times I heard "Love So Soft", I wasn't obviously crazy about it as it is a big break of patterns for the original American Idol. Nonetheless, with time, I started feeling it more and more to the point I'd have to close my eyes each time she did the big notes towards the end. The soul, the life and the effort she has put into this song breaks any boundaries. Up until today I am in love with this masterpiece. 1st and only appearance from Kelly Clarkson. 07. Taylor Swift - "Look What You Made Me Do" I don't hate Taylor Swift but that doesn't mean I don't think she is completely overhyped and overrated which she is. Besides, she is sneaky and a complete actress of her famous persona. I am more of a fan of artists who are honest and real. With all this being said, when I first heard "Look What You Made Me Do", it had me fuming as I wanted to hate it but I was being slayed at every new verse, beat and second. Sometimes less is more and this minimalistic underground production proves it. Everything about this song is pure perfection. 2nd and last appearance from Taylor Swift. 06. Fifth Harmony - "He Like That" I can't believe I wasn't able to find an official single version without "French Montana Remix" as this entry is obviously referring to the original version. Anyway! The GP did Fifth Harmony so wrong this era. I know "Down" wasn't exactly impressive but "He Like That" was fresh, fun, original and such a different sound for them. On top of that, all of the girls had space to shine and to sing their lungs out. I also am aware that the reason this underperformed the way it did has to do with their management but I truly believe that the GP doesn't really love Pop Fifth Harmony that much. Anyway, up until today, I love this song and I still bop to it. Damn, girls! 3rd out of four appearances from Fifth Harmony. 05. Shakira - "Me Enamoré" Seriously, Shakira is capable of turning the world upside down and people will still support her. I love it! While we all know Spanish music is in right now, not all forms of it are and for Shakira to score such a big hit with a Pop Dance Spanish song means something... Means she is the damn Queen. "Me Enamoré" received a lot of bad criticism when it was released. People accused her of bad lyricism but I will always support her. Not only "Me Enamoré" has a contagious happy feeling but most people don't speak Spanish and her basic vocabulary in it make it easy for everyone to sing along. Shakira is intelligent y'all, you're not. 3rd out of four appearances from Shakira. 04. Prince Royce & Shakira - "Deja Vu" And here is Shakira's last entry in my Best Of 2017. While I truly love her sexy Spanish in "Perro Fiel" and the contagious happiness that "Me Enamoré" gives me, her slower tunes end up always touching me the most. "Deja Vu", though, is not a regular a ballad or whatsover. It is a bachata production and the first time Shakira jumped into the genre. Overall, the song gives us romance, sensuality and sadness. In it, Shakira (and Prince Royce) sing about how hard it is to forget someone you love and the way they talk about it is impeccable: "Tú me abriste las heridas que ya daba por curadas con limón, tequila y sal". I mean? 1st and only appearance from Prince Royce. 4th and last appearance from Shakira. 03. Dua Lipa - "New Rules" Duh! If there's any Best Of that didn't place "New Rules" within their top 10, it's destined to flop and to be accused of an atrocious taste. I am kidding (or maybe not). Dua delivered one of the best songs of the year. "New Rules" started smoothly and exploded. The best part? She needed no huge name in it or a Urban vibe attached to it. "New Rules" is Pop at its best and has some of the best lyrics of the year as well. The rhythm is infectious, the vocals are so easy to listen to, the concept is so out of this world and don't get me started on the video. She has announced new rules, let's see which ones she brings in 2018. Thanks for the inspiration, Dua! 1st and only appearance from Dua Lipa. 02. Bebe Rexha - "I Got You" Ah! Bet you didn't see this one coming, did you? We were just talking about Pop Perfection with Dua's "New Rules" and we continue on that same topic. Bebe delivered the best Pop song of the year, hands down. While she released the song in late 2016, it only truly became relevant (for me to give it a listen) during 2017 and once I heard it, I could never forget it. It contains all of the elements that build a fantastic Pop song (the beat, the pace, the vocals...) and, besides its hypnotic beat, it has some great lyrics: "Tell me what you're thinkin', always over thinkin'". Ahhh! It's perfect! I wish it had performed better though. 2nd and last appearance from Bebe Rexha. 01. Fifth Harmony - "Angel" And for the second year in a row, Fifth Harmony go home winning the Singles Chart. While many may question themselves if "Angel" was indeed a single, it truly was. Not only it was performed at the VMAs, it got a music video and it even got Airplay. Well, the song is such a fresh vibe for Fifth Harmony and each day I am more confident it should've been the first single of the album. This trap-pop production is brilliant and, just so you know, it was released in my birthday which gives it a more special feeling. Besides its production, all of the four girls slay: Dinah dropping the F word, Lauren's adlibs through the end, Ally's rap and Normani's intro... Damn! That is what I call a song. 4th and last appearance from Fifth Harmony. Special Mentions While putting together this Best Of, I realized I forgot to mention two 2017 releases which I am not forgetting to mention. Best Of Videos: Major Lazer - "Run Up (feat. PARTYNEXTDOOR & Nicki Minaj)" What a phenomenal video. I had it on the list and I probably deleted it accidentally. It would've made the top 10. Best Of Albums (Special Mention): Evanescence - "Synthesis" Well, it would've appeared as a special mention solely but I still couldn't finish this without mentioning it. Thank you so much for supporting my Best Of 2017. See you next year! Edited January 12, 2018 by Pedro
