Supercut and Third of May are excellent.

One of these songs may be the same position as mine  :fan:

Supercut is on the upper-half of Melodrama for sure.  Question :jamming:

22. Last year I mentioned I was wary of the 18-episode order and the show running on twists, but when it returned in January for its final run of episodes for S1, I was pleasantly surprised by how much they turned it down a notch, and kept it down. We still got a few little twists–and everything was still unapologetically melodramatic (to my liking)–but the show mostly focused on telling intimate stories about the characters. Two highlights being “The Big Day”, a flashback episode focusing on a minor character, and “Memphis”, an emotional road trip episode with Randall and William. These also settled my concern that 18 episodes were far too many because the show has smartly given itself space to experiment and tell stories about several different people (We still haven't got a Beth episode!). It continued with the second season which teased a “how did Jack die?” mystery to hook viewers but put it on hold for more character stories like the well-crafted “Big Three” trilogy.

21. Since the show far-surpassed the events of the novels, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have had almost complete artistic freedom for how to reach the show's endpoints provided by George R.R. Martin. I said last year it ushered the show into a new era, and now Season 7 has confirmed what that is: a distilled version of Game of Thrones. Or, better yet, a full-on, fast-paced epic fantasy. The loss of its careful machiavellian plotting and rich character development allowed for even more spectacle and fan-service. It was slightly disappointing after Season 6 managed to find a nice balance between the two. But hey I enjoyed it for what it was, because, if nothing else, it was pure entertaining and fun to watch. I just wish the spectacle episodes managed to at least reach the heights of the previous few (“Battle of the Bastards”, “The Winds of Water”, “Hardhome”)

20. The plot diverges! While the first season focused on establishing the characters and tone in ways both good and bad, the second season introduced a hard-driving plot with clear, high dramatic stakes that balanced off the interpersonal storylines and gave each character much more purpose. Not every storyline was compelling but simultaneously expanding upon the show's interesting mythology meant we didn't have to sit through the usual Netflix Slog. I enjoyed it for how they connected the show to the real world by exploring the divide between homo sapiens and 'homo sensoriums' in the Age of Terror and then having more clusters was both fun and fascinating. But even though the deeper mythology and long-term plotting were great, the best thing about the season was still the highs of the first. It’s the deep emotional catharsis that made watching it an extraordinary experience and why there was such a strong reaction to its cancellation.

Ikr. I hope the special finale is amazing and somehow makes them reverse their decision.

Yep! I feel like she's stepped it up even more this season and it helps that I'm liking her character more too.

Alvvays - Dreams Tonite

Quote

25. The calming and effortlessness of dream pop comes through best on this song. Molly Rankin’s voice glides over shimmering guitar work in an almost hypnotic way, as she yearns for a connection. It hovers between fantasy and reality, excitement and disappointment, but beautiful nonetheless. The song in lesser hands would maybe sound middle-of-the-road, or even bore the listener, but Alvvays truly excels with this piece.

SOPHIE - Ponyboy

Quote

24. As always, SOPHIE excels at creating songs that take on a “sonic, sensual, and emotional character”. This year's banger, “Ponyboy”, was arguably her most exploratory effort to date, matching abrasive textures and sensual vocals to a thumping bass. The raw waveforms simulate a visceral response to erotic dynamics which are sharply highlighted by the lyrics about animal roleplay. It's rude, provocative and glorious.

Big H - Space Man (feat. President T)

Quote

23. Big H has been coasting on goodwill with his old-school material, but there was a sense of fire returning after his controversial feud with P Money, and “Space Man” was the result. He swaggers all over the self-produced beat, using his signature AK-47 lines to “set the record straight” and call out everyone that came for him. It's sharp and naturally gully, as he describes himself, with veteran President T and his off-kilter flow joining in to round out a very impressive grime song.

Jordan Rakei - Nerve

Quote

22. One of the more addicting songs of the year. The warm groove truly surrounds the listener, as delicate guitar plucking and a shuffling bassline complement Rakei's vocals leading up to the chorus. This is when a wall of sound effect takes over, and the song really becomes something to celebrate. It's such an apt sound for a song that explores the concept of soul-searching and self-love.

Gerd Janson & Shan - Surrender

Quote

21. From the first few moments of “Surrender”, you get the feeling that something big is going to come of this song. A disco vocal is wrapped up in some tasteful production even before the arrival of euphoric horns and synth crescendos. From there, things take off and we're left with a dancefloor anthem that is accessible for all. It doesn’t surprise me the song has pretty much been a staple for music festivals and BBC Radio 1 this year.

Game of Thrones flopping like it deserves. Don't get me wrong it's still one of the best shows on TV, and obviously it has a flawless cast and enormous budget, but it's truly being let down by the writing.

I mean I can't blame them - the creators are terrific adaptors, but that's a hell of a lot different to crafting their own story. I wish George R.R. Martin was more involved in the show. I know the books are like, well they're HIS books he can do whatever the hell he wants. But to take so many years to release the damn things is truly a travesty.
