K$Ellie Posted December 31, 2017 Author Posted December 31, 2017 (edited) Top 20 Albums #20-16 #15-11 #10-8 #7. Various Artists - La La Land OST Rating: 8.5 | Peak: #2 Highlights: Someone In The Crowd, Audition, Another Day Of Sun, A Lonely Night, City Of Stars, Epilogue Spoiler Another Day Of Sun (10) - 81 Plays Someone In The Crowd (10) - 117 Plays Mia & Sebastian's Theme (x) - 57 Plays A Lovely Night (10) - 92 Plays Herman's Habit (x) - 22 Plays City Of Stars (Solo) (x) - 21 Plays Planetarium (9) - 31 Plays Summer Montage / Madeline (6) - 21 Plays City Of Stars (10) - 94 Plays Start A Fire (4) - 15 Plays Engagement Party (x) - 19 Plays Audition (The Fools Who Dream) (10) - 80 Plays Epilogue (10) - 26 Plays The End (x) - 23 Plays City Of Stars (Humming) (6) - 18 Plays =717 Plays Feels wrong to include this on the album list since it's a soundtrack and I can't really compare it to an actual album La La Land is literally the most beautiful film I've ever seen, I watched it 20+ times this year The soundtrack is flawless and it doesn't feel right to rate them as regular songs because they work as part of the movie. Still, I decided to place it at #7 despite all the competition this year because I listened to it quite a lot. My favorite song is Someone In The Crowd but the best scene has to be Epilogue, closely followed by Another Day Of Sun/Audition/A Lonely Night (idk I love them all ). Another Day Of Sun is such a perfect opening The composition in SITC is so good. I love when it slows down and slowly starts to build up again towards the end of the song City Of Stars is the inferior Ryan/Emma song but we love an Oscar winning bop Listening to Audition makes me wanna cry cause it reminds me of the scene from the movie I don't really like Start A Fire and it's not something I would listen to but it makes more sense in the context of the movie. I can even listen to songs like Planetarium or Epilogue cause it reminds me of the beautiful scenes from the movie The artwork gorgeous.mp3 too #6. Dua Lipa - Dua Lipa Rating: 8.6 | Peak: #2 Highlights: Hotter Than Hell, Be The One, Blow Your Mind, New Rules, Last Dance, Room For 2, Genesis Spoiler Genesis (10) - 170 Plays Last Dance (10) - 299 Plays Hotter Than Hell (10) - 728 Plays Be The One (10) - 516 Plays IDGAF (7.5) - 30 Plays Blow Your Mind (Mwah) (10) - 396 Plays New Love (9.5) - 99 Plays No Goodbyes (7) - 24 Plays Thinking 'Bout You (7.5) - 72 Plays Room For 2 (10) - 200 Plays Lost In Your Light (9.5) - 135 Plays Bad Together (9) - 34 Plays Garden (5) - 19 Plays Dreams (7) - 27 Plays New Rules (10) - 399 Plays Begging (10) - 95 Plays Homesick (4) - 12 Plays Bang Bang (8) - 16 Plays =3,271 Plays Didn't think this album would ever see the light of day I remember the meltdowns after the numerous pushbacks and wasted opportunities at the start of the year I was sure it would get pushed back again after Lost In Your Light bombed but luckily I was wrong I don't think anyone was expecting her to get a smash after the album was released but the GP came thru The singles are mostly my faves (Hotter Than Hell, Be The One, Blow Your Mind, New Rules, Last Dance) but Genesis and Begging are amazing too Room For 2 is so underrated I was so excited for Dreams after listening to the live version but it turned out kinda messy Garden is annoying and Homesick is boring, the only 2 fillers on the album Lost In Your Light is a good song but not one of her best and an awful single choice. Bad Together is v good too The rest are pretty much middle of the road. I was perched for Bang Bang but it was underwhelming The whole deal with the album cover was funny too Overall, a great debut album with a few mediocre songs but many standouts #5. Taylor Swift - Reputation Rating: 8.6 | Peak: #1 Highlights: Look What You Made Me Do, Dancing With Our Hands Tied, Delicate, I Did Something Bad, ...Ready For It? Spoiler ...Ready For It? (10) - 290 Plays End Game (8.5) - 57 Plays I Did Something Bad (10) - 86 Plays Don't Blame Me (9) - 49 Plays Delicate (10) - 122 Plays Look What You Made Me Do (10) - 493 Plays So It Goes... (8) - 48 Plays Gorgeous (5) - 29 Plays Getaway Car (8) - 42 Plays King Of My Heart (8) - 41 Plays Dancing With Our Hands Tied (10) - 129 Plays Dress (10) - 86 Plays This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things (7) - 24 Plays Call It What You Want (10) - 90 Plays New Year's Day (5) - 20 Plays =1,606 Plays I wasn't sure how this album would turn out after the polorizing (promo) singles but I ended up loving it Gorgeous especially had me worried but it turned out to be the worst song on the album Call It What You Want restored my faith but I don't really listen to ha anymore Hands Tied, I Did Something Bad, Delicate and Dress are my favorite out of the new songs Dress is so underrated Nice Things is a mess, but a cute mess. End Game already aged badly, too bad it's the next single Getaway Car, King Of My Heart and So It Goes... are all bops but not outstanding or anything. New Year's Day is a borefest. I don't know if Reputation is better than 1989. The former has less filler but the latter has better highs so it's hard to choose. I'm just happy she sold 1 million again and didn't get panned #4. Kesha - Rainbow Rating: 8.7 | Peak: #1 [x4] Highlights: Praying, Learn To Let Go, Boots, Bastards Spoiler Bastards (10) - 105 Plays Let 'Em Talk (9.5) - 95 Plays Woman (8.5) - 139 Plays Hymn (8.5) - 132 Plays Praying (10) - 494 Plays Learn To Let Go (10) - 300 Plays Finding You (6) - 50 Plays Rainbow (9) - 95 Plays Hunt You Down (9) - 83 Plays Boogie Feet (8.5) - 71 Plays Boots (10) - 193 Plays Old Flames (Can't Hold A Candle To You) (6.5) - 52 Plays Godzilla (7) - 32 Plays Spaceship (9) - 72 Plays =1,913 Plays Whew my original fave made her comeback I didn't think this would happen and I already accepted the fact that she may never release music again. We got everything so quickly, it was less than 2 months between Praying being announced and the album release Obviously the lead single was perfect since it was my SOTY The promo singles leading up to the album slayed me at first, but Woman and Hymn didn't age all that well. Learn To Let Go is still that bop tho I can see why Boots is the fan fave, it slays Bastards is the perfect opener Let 'Em Talk is messy but great Finding You, Godzilla and Old Flames drag the album down a bit Spaceship is a beautiful closer, the spoken outro gets me every time I think the album is very cohesive but the only think I wish is that there were more standouts, because only 3 songs really did THAT for me. Still amazing tho #3. St. Vincent - MASSEDUCTION Rating: 8.9 | Peak: #1 [x3] Highlights: Los Ageless, Masseduction, Sugarboy, Pills, Slow Disco, Young Lover Spoiler Hang On Me (6) - 34 Plays Pills (10) - 92 Plays Masseduction (10) - 162 Plays Sugarboy (10) - 140 Plays Los Ageless (10) - 173 Plays Happy Birthday, Johnny (6.5) - 35 Plays Savior (9) - 63 Plays New York (6) - 34 Plays Fear The Future (9.5) - 79 Plays Young Lover (10) - 93 Plays Dancing With A Ghost (x) - 72 Plays Slow Disco (10) - 113 Plays Smoking Section (9.5) - 74 Plays =1,164 Plays So happy I gave this a few tries before finally getting into it, because it's one of the best albums of the year She has a cute discography too, but I mostly only like this and Strange Mercy (which is almost as good as MASS ). The upbeat songs are all like, annoying but really good Especially the songs from Pills to Los Ageless and they're all bops Fear The Future + Young Lover go off too, they're so underrated Slow Disco is a beautiful song, so much better than the 2 boring, piano ballads Smoking Section used to be one of my faves but yeah, it's not all that I used to hate Hang On Me but I suppose it's not awful anymore Johnny is better than New York but she could have made both of them more interesting. I hate how they're after Los Ageless and Savior on the tracklist, it makes the album a lot less cohesive So the album only has 3 alright songs and the rest slay #2. Tove Lo - Blue Lips aka. BLUE LIPS (lady wood phase II) Rating: 9.0 | Peak: #1 [x4] *still #1* Highlights: Disco ****, Hey You Got Drugs?, Bad Days, Cycles, shedontknowbutsheknows Spoiler Light Beams (x) - 72 Plays Disco **** (10) - 310 Plays shedontknowbutsheknows (10) - 162 Plays Shivering Gold (7) - 48 Plays Don't Ask Don't Tell (9.5) - 90 Plays Stranger (8) - 66 Plays Bitches (9.5) - 83 Plays Pitch Black (x) - 70 Plays Romantics (9.5) - 80 Plays Cycles (10) - 100 Plays Struggle (9) - 95 Plays 9th Of October (6) - 47 Plays Bad Days (10) - 130 Plays Hey You Got Drugs? (10) - 173 Plays =1,526 Plays Lady Wood was my #1 album of 2016 and Tove came thru again this year Her shtick is really off putting so by the end of the Lady Wood era, I was a biT over her. Then Disco Tïts didn't help, especially since I didn't even like the song at first. Luckily she proved me wrong and delivered another album full of bops, almost matching the quality of Lady Wood Most of the songs I didn't like grew on me, even 9th Of October which is filler-y but some bits of it are cute. I used to hate Bitches but it's one of my faves now Cycles only hit me recently and now I can't stop listening to it Stranger is good but not amazing, I don't know why everyone stans Shivering Gold seems to be overrated too since it's the second worst but it still hasn't been eliminated in the album survivor. I love the Bitches -> Romantics -> Cycles section I used to love Struggle too but it aged badly Bad Days is v underrated and Hey You Got Drugs? started off as one of my least faves, but is now one of her best songs My messy, slutty fave I still hate the lack of punctuation in the song titles and the messy tags, especially on Spotify #1. Halsey - hopeless fountain kingdom Rating: 9.3 | Peak: #11 [x18] Highlights: Bad At Love, Now Or Never, Don't Play, Alone, 100 Letters, Walls Could Talk, Hopeless Spoiler The Prologue (x) - 130 Plays 100 Letters (10) - 417 Plays Eyes Closed (8.5) - 235 Plays Heaven In Hiding (9.5) - 207 Plays Alone (10) - 415 Plays Now Or Never (10) - 819 Plays Sorry (9) - 151 Plays Good Mourning (x) - 126 Plays Lie (8.5) - 144 Plays Walls Could Talk (x) - 407 Plays Bad At Love (10) - 667 Plays Don't Play (10) - 537 Plays Strangers (10) - 312 Plays Angel On Fire (9) - 171 Plays Devil In Me (7) - 118 Plays Hopeless (10) - 272 Plays =5,128 Plays Whew Halsey did it again I was worried that after BADLANDS topped my list in 2015, she could only go down from there but she delivered Still not sure which album I prefer but this was an easy choice for me, nothing this year comes close And it recently passed Delirium, becoming my most played album of all time after only half a year Still listen to the majority of it regularly, except for The Prologue, Eyes Closed, Good Mourning, Lie, Angel On Fire and Devil In Me. I was worried at first when I saw that 3 of the songs were interludes but they all turned out good and Walls Could Talk is, like, top 5 on the album She could have easily added an extra verse and made it a full length song but it works amazingly as it is. The WCT -> BAL -> Don't Play 1-2-3 punch gives me life Oddly enough, Bad At Love was one of my least favorite songs at first and now it's probably my fave Her vocals in the chorus >>> Don't Play haters are ugly, it's perfection. "yeah dont even try / can't **** up my vibe / double cuppin in my ride / motherf**ker don't play with me" THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE ALBUM I think the era started off perfectly, Now Or Never is one of her best songs 100 Letters was initially my fave, then I got bored of it and now I love it again. Same thing happened with Alone, which needs to be the 3rd single btw. Strangers stans can seethe. Like yeah it's an amazing song (a lil overrated tho) but it's not gonna smash Eyes Closed got boring and I don't listen to ha anymore but it's still good. Same with Angel On Fire. Devil In Me is the closest thing to filler on the album but it's still decent. Lie is a mess lyrically but it goes off a bit I usually don't like piano ballads but Halsey pulled it off with Sorry Hopeless is the better emotional bop tho, I love the vocoder vocals So yeah, that's it I guess. Halsey totally owned this year for me and I hope she does it again with her 3rd album Edited December 31, 2017 by K$Ellie
lhdang2000 Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 reputation was underwhelming compared to 1989. Still a great album tho. I'm glad that you included La La Land, one of the reasons why the movie succeeded was the soundtrack: dreamy yet beautiful. Rainbow marks a really great comeback in Kesha's discography. Definitely her strongest album. I have heard half of Blue Lips, and I don't really like it... Halsey's album was... umm, let's just say I expect much more after Badlands.
soml Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 Halsey Dua Lipa and Reputation are my favorites from your list. Amazing albums. Your picks
Inner Insanity Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 (edited) Speaking of disappointing albums. TMYLM is not excellent. Confident remains her best album. Your numbers 5 and 1 are muy tragique. Rainbow and Blue Lips. Edited December 31, 2017 by Inner Insanity
witness1.3 Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 TMYLM, Rainbow, Reputation, Dua Lipa but honey... i audibly GASPED at "homesick is boring" it is like easily the best song on the album. Maybe its because I can relate to it so well, but the piano riff and chris martin's BG vocals get me
Lazuli Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 This top 7 is SNATCHED Well, almost La La Land yaaaaaaaas Stan for the movie! Dua Lipa and Blue Lips are cute rePUTAtion SHOCKING that Rainbow isn't at least top 3 for you! MESSEDUCTION And lemme not talk about that #1 which almost threatened to ruin this flawless set
theblackestday Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 ...well Mess @ the La La soundtrack making an appearance I haven't heard it so I can't say much about it Dua's album was nice, but I never revisited it. Love all the singles though. Definitely the best new pop girl I tried giving Republican a listen when it came out but I got bored halfway through so I never finished it I will say that ...Ready For Slayage? is her best song ever I don't remember much of Kesha's album, but I really respect it and her journey also Praying is quite amazing and I really like Learn to Let Go. I believe you already know how I feel about Masseduction But @ you putting God Disco as a highlight I'm kind of an obsessive Tove Lo hater so I didn't check out her album but I won't lie and say Disco T*ts isn't a bop Halsey is... Halsey
TheWayWeWere Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 Dua missed top 5 I wasn't expected something from it, since pushback albums mostly ends up being bad, but it's solid record Rainbow she did so good this year I'm happy for her acclaim Blue Lips #2 already it's nice bunch of songs, but didn't really work for me as LW or QOTC HFK praise indeed one of the best pop records this year
Nikko Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 I loved Rainbow, reputation and Blue Lips, too! HFK is among my most played albums this year, too, she lowkey did that

Delta Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 (edited) Rainbow was robbed, there's time to fix it. Love the top 3 anyway, but go and fix it right now. Edited December 31, 2017 by Delta
ATRL Moderator Unoriginal Posted December 31, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 31, 2017 6 through 1 are all great order is questionable but they're all quality so I won't complain
Admiral Bobbery Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 Dua and Kesha's albums are great! Halsey's album was much better than I'd thought it would be. Happy Kelly and Lorde made the list too.
popstar Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 #JusticeForRainbow MASSEDUCTION + Dua + Tove I just couldn't finnish La La Land
Green Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 Rainbow, Dua Lipa, Reputation, Masseduction I liked the La La Land soundtrack too. The movie is amazing of course
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted December 31, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 31, 2017 wow top 6 are great
Bloomers Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 I need to watch La La Land. It's been on my hard drive for a long time and I still haven't watched that. I'll get on that. I haven't listened to all of the albums in the top 7 but I really like the ones that I have heard (Kesha, Taylor, and Dua). I like Gorgeous though. Good list K Money.
