Vilppu Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 Several plays later I still can only recall We Like's hook, overall wee Woo was stronger, I think. Ninano exceeded my expectations (but then I don't expect anything good from a 2ne1 member that isn't Bom) but the chorus was so underwhelming it hurt. Limitless and All Night though other songs I either haven't heard or didn't like (Singing in the Rain ) Liked Slowdive a lot too.
SLIME Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 Whoops didn't know Washed Out released. Slowdive is gorgeous tho u already know, we have it in the same spot Ima peep a k-pop song
Pink Matter Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 Washed Out was cool for a listen or two. I think what did the album in for me was that it was too short and everything blended too well together so I ended up losing interest in the album lmao Slowdive's record was nice but it wasn't something I went back to throughout the year.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 27, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 27, 2017 We Like is such a generic song but the "dododododoooo" parts are just SO infectious I could listen to them over and over and over. All Night is cute but I wished they used the "I like to party" part more. Washed Out gave me a cute album but that's it. Wish he gave me MORE. I guess Neon Indian is the only one who can give masterpieces.

lhdang2000 Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 Yasss at the love for Zoo. A lot of my friends hate it, and I still think it's the best song coming from the EP.

potent Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 I hadnt heard of Slowdive but they kept appearing in people's lists and realized they're actually a 90s band and they have a really interesting sound, I like Sugar for the Pill. Maybe I should look further...
World Eater Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 Slowdive and The Underside of Power Algiers are so underrated + they're insane live
jose168 Posted December 27, 2017 Author Posted December 27, 2017 ~Albums ~ 15. Party - Aldous Harding I dont think the title quite fits the album lol. The album is very folky and low-fi, but the abrupt vocal bursts throughout keep you on your toes. The album is very confessional with themes of aspiration, addiction and love. which I relate to obvi See: Imagining My Man, Blend, Horizon 14. The Assassination of Julius Caesar - Ulver My main problem with this record is that it is very face value. It's so right on the nose at some points when you think of moody 80s synthpop, and at times it feels like the band is so caught up with creating this grandiose atmosphere that the actual content does not matter. But it is gorge and i could probably listen to it over and over. So they've made a successful pop record? Stay tuned. See: Southern Gothic, Coming Home, Nemoralia 13. Take Me Apart - Kelela This album had all the stars aligned for it to be great and did not disappoint. pbRnB has no shortage of new comers attempting to stake their claim, and a few kind of struggle to find an identity or a style. Kelela succeeds in this album, with the right amount of reference mixed with the right amount of cutting edge instrumental and great, smart lyrics. See: LMK, Blue Light, Take Me Apart The next update will be more pop
jose168 Posted December 27, 2017 Author Posted December 27, 2017 (edited) ~kpop~ 40. Make Me Love You - Taeyeon Probably Taeyeon's quietest title track, if you strip away the poppy synth and drum loops it could be an OST. There's also quite a bit of English in here so it could resonate more with western pop fans, sounding in line with Ellie Goulding's 'Love Me Like You Do' Spoiler 39. Don't Recall - KARD KARD being a co-ed group puts them in a neat position because alot the transition between male and female vocals in their songs complement each other really well, something I haven't really noted since F(x). Don't recall is inline with Oh Nana having a fun tropical beat but is a bit more somber Spoiler 38. Ko Ko Bop - Exo I wasn't really feeling their concept this time around but the song goes. I love the carribean beat and the icy breakdown contrasting. Most of the gents also have great delivery, it all worked well. Spoiler 37. A Girl Like Me - Gugudan I thought this would be alot higher on release but alas. It still goes however, the punchy bubblegum bass is so rapid fire throughout the track its irresistable Spoiler 36. Signal - TWICE Probably the closest we'll get to a concept change from Twice, it's alot slower paced than most of their songs and dare I say rhythmic. The chorus itself is pretty underwhelming but the signal bonae bits are cute, even if they are obvious attempts to recreate infectious melodies from their previous songs. Spoiler 35. Cactus - ACE They all have hot legs. watch below plz Spoiler 34. I Wait - Day6 "Band" styled groups don't really do all that well so I'm not expecting much success from them but I wait is a sweetspot of poprock, and not an ironic cheesy kind. Reminds me of an anime soundtrack. PS can JYP stop being annoying and put their acts on spotify Spoiler 33. Island - Winner We love gay icons. Cute summer song but put out too late really be a summer song. For me anyways Spoiler 32. Between Us - CNBlue Another "Band". This synthrock song does it for me because the chorus really does deliver the perfect climax. Not too little not too much. Easily gets stuck in my head Spoiler 31. Jimin - Hallelujah Jimin's solo comeback is chock full of jimin-isms that we love, from the bratty vocals to the 'hey!'s all over the place. I like the latin flavor on it, with the cute spanish guitar intro in the beginning. Spoiler Edited December 28, 2017 by jose168
Tom Vercetti Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 Ulver + Kelela, yass. What a year when a bunch of previous older metal acts makes one of the better pop albums.
