theblackestday Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 Update to brickhamsters stans: Saturation III is actually better than I and II. But is it good enough to snatch a spot in my top 50 instead of one of the albums? We shall find out. Anyways, I'm considering posting albums #50-#46 today. Thoughts?

Vilppu Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Ariel Pink was definitely an HM material at best and I liked Julie Byrne's album but not an awful lot either so that's reasonable too.
Playa Playa Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Wow a strong bunch of HMs! Perched for the actual list now

theblackestday Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 **** it, I'll just post it 50. POND The Weather PSYCHEDELIC POP Quote Tame Impala first made my EPs list and now my albums list. Talent only. 49. FLEET FOXES Crack-Up PROGRESSIVE FOLK Quote Don't have much to say about it. I was really slayed on initial playthroughs but I got tired of it quite fast and I don't really have the will to revisit it, although I've listened to it quite a lot already. Regardless, I don't think you can deny that it's a stunning and dense folk record, rich in instrumentation, unconventional structures and ambitious songwriting. 48. THE HORRORS V NEO PSYCHEDELIA / SYNTH-POP Quote The aesthetic and ideas of the record are possibly the best part of it, since the execution is lacking in some aspects. It can be somewhat of a tedious listen, and the length certainly doesn't help. But with that being said, I still liked this album. It's very polished and well-produced, and I love how industrial and electronic-heavy it can be at times, although the slower and less "epic" moments may be even better.
theblackestday Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 47. UPPER WILDS Guitar Module 2017 NOISE ROCK Quote Love me some noise bangerz 46. SZA Ctrl CONTEMPORARY R&B / NEO SOUL Quote I had tried really hard to get into this album, but failed each time. It was just until recently my appreciation for it grew when I became pretty obsessed with Love Galore and Drew Berrymore; gorgeous songs and the obvious highlights alongside my original favorite Doves in the Wind (which is a YAH rip off btw). I'm still not the biggest fan of the album overall, but at least I'm not a hater anymore, right?
Vxspertine Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Quote Tame Impala first made my EPs list and now my albums list. Talent only. I SCREAMED I definitely agree with what you said about V, but it really didn't cut it for me as much as it did for you I still haven't heard the FF album I want to get to it but I'm never in the right mood for them anymore The Upper Wilds album was decent And SZA, glad you're not a hater anymore
volition Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 At least 5 of your HMs are on my albums list I thought Ctrl wouldn’t even make your list so I’m pleased. Drew Barrymore and Doves in the Wind are excellent highlights. Loved the Fleet Foxes and Horrors albums too.
Pink Matter Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Really nice start! SZA, Pond, and The Horrors put out great material! Fleet Foxes didn't really do it for me, but then again I don't really enjoy folk music so And Doves In The Wind>>>>YAH.
Tom Vercetti Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Quote 47. UPPER WILDS Looks like my small promo work Pond + The Horrors. Good to see. I pretty much at least tolerate everything so far.
Escape Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 You hopped on the SZA hype-train The album was a borefest for me even after trying like five times. Fleet Foxes I STILL need to listen to that Horrors album
Glassmouth Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 The Horrors' mini-review seemed more like a drag than praise
Lazuli Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Pond and Fleet Foxes' albums were cute V CTRL Beach Fossils missed the top 50
artangels Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Quote SZA FLOPS tbh it's what she desrves, album was just cute
World Eater Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 I wasn't crazy about Crack-Up and I don't really have the will to revisit it either I mean it certainly is beautiful and everything but eh idk.
prézli Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Oh gosh. I was struggling to plan my top 10 albums list because I didn't hear many and yet you make a 50 one.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 16, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 16, 2017 I just don't listen to Fleet Foxes or FJM. Gave them a chance like 5 years ago and haven't ever again lol. The weather and V are gr8. SZA's album is good but all the highlights are in the 1st half.
bluth Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 so many good choices! v, the weather, ctrl. i find it interesting how it seems like everyone has a different fave from ctrl.
Same Ol' Mistakes Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 I have to agree with your The Horrors review. Ctrl is a bit lower but I expected this from you.

Escape Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Charlotte Gainsbourg's album deserved better.
Escape Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 I don't know half of these albums though, I really was a lazy ass flop this year.
