theblackestday Posted December 29, 2017 Author Posted December 29, 2017 10. VINCE STAPLES Big Fish Theory HIP HOP / ELECTRONIC Quote Vince teams up with an astounding lineup of collaborators, ranging from Bon Iver's Justin Vernon to PC Music's SOPHIE, with a production that leans toward electronic club music. He touches upon several dark lyrical themes on the album, but his excellent delivery and flow are what further prove him as one of the most interesting rappers in modern hip hop. That, along with the focused creative direction and top-notch production which absolutely bangs while being unconventional, results in what is one of 2017's most adventurous and enjoyable records. faves: SAMO, Yeah Right, 745, Love Can Be... least faves: Rain Come Down 9. BJÖRK & ARCA Utopia FLUTERONICA Quote faves: Losss, Claimstaker, Future Forever, Tabula Rasa, Saint least faves: Paradisia, Utopia 8. ARCA Arca ARCATRONICA Quote Arca's self-titled record couldn't have been more aptly titled. With the inspiration of influential legend Björk, this album is his first to feature his vocals, sung in his native Spanish. The lyrics, which are largely improvised, evoke emotion and intimacy both through his operatic voice and the rawness of the music. He takes his signature production work and further develops it while exploring new sounds, resulting in what is his best work to date. faves: Castration, Urchin, Reverie, Saunterleast faves: Sin Rumbo 7. PARAMORE After Laughter NEW WAVE / POP ROCK Quote Never been a self-titled fan, my biggest fear was Paramore going full on pop. When Hard Times came out, I was extremely disappointed. I was hoping for something else. But the more I listened to it, the more I grew to love it, and eventually became obsessed with it. Then Told You So came out which I hated even more, but ended up loving it even more. I finally came to accept Paramore's transition from their punk past to them embracing their pop nature. In After Laughter, they take major influences from 1980s new wave and synthpop, and the result is arguably their most cohesive and consistent album to date. Hayley went through depression, and she blatantly lays it all out in the lyrics, contrasting the vibrance and upbeatness of the music. As they'd sum it up: cry hard, dance harder. faves: Tell Me How, Caught in the Middle, Told You So, Pool, Fake Happy, Rose Colored Boy, No Friend, Grudges, Idle Worshipleast faves: Hard Times (still great) 6. BRAND NEW Science Fiction ALTERNATIVE ROCK Quote Child predatory won. faves: Same Logic / Teeth, 137, Out of Mana, Lit Me Up, 451 least faves: Desert

And I'm a lot better, thank you for checking, it means a lot I need to re-visit After Laughter, it was cute but I didn't like it that much, I'm glad you enjoyed what your faves delivered though. Love Big Fish Theory, I wish more rappers tried something similar. Utopia I was not feeling and calling the title track a lowlight is mean.
fossora Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 A JOKE Arca being higher than Björk? either way congrats to Vince and Paramore they deserved it (even though they are way high for me)
