My 2nd fave POnyboy and Weighed Down are excellent. Did you like V as a whole? I wish I liked the Austra album but I gave it chances and now I'm completely over it. I just can't.... idk. Not my type? i liked v! it’s heavy as a whole but it manages to offset that with lighter moments the austra album has two standouts + the rest is generally fine 3 minutes ago, Penk said: Vince, St. Vince, Charli, Lorde, Selena, Kelela, SZA, Jay Som, Japanese Breakfast, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Ware, Susanne Sundfor, P!nk, Phoenix, Kero Kero Bonito, Kendrick, Julia Michaels, etc.?? impressive - 12
Lazuli Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 On the Level, Die 4 You, Rose Colored Boy Woman, Weighed Down, 10-20-40, Special, Pain What a stellar set
TheWayWeWere Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Woman is nice bop just listened Rina's EP last night, and it's amazing tbh
Playa Playa Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Ponyboy deserved this! Already one of Sophie's greatest achievements
TayRianaPH Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Rose-Colored Boy Woman too comment on my best of too hun

theblackestday Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 (edited) Chanel deserved better The 1-2-3-4 punch of #45-#42 (although Trash People is the worst song on Apocalipstick) Sophie's song is a BOP. Excited for the new album if it sounds more like this than that other song. btw, love your aesthetics Edited December 15, 2017 by theblackestday
Eeveelution Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Special is cute but... nothing special. Angel's release disappointed me, honestly. Ultraviolence, sweetie... Die for You is a perfect PG pick and Rina's song is really good too. I was so tempted to axe something from my list to include Ponyboy: it's just THAT bop and I'm excited to see what she brings in 2018.
Tom Vercetti Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Your batches always have a nice amount of songs that I use. 10-20-40 is probably my favorite Rina track as of now. Accelator/Pony Boy/Friend Zone/Pain also among highlights.
bluth Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 30 - 21 30 MODERN WOMAN TENNIS while yours conditionally often slips into snoozey territory, reminding us of the dull routine married life can fall into, it has a few moments wherein we snap away from mundanity for a second and become consumed by spontaneous emotion. modern woman is a cry for an old friend, but i guess it could also work on losing your identity as a woman, the song beginning quietly and ascending into a beautiful cry for the past 29 EQUALIZER DENZEL CURRY 28 DEADLY VALENTINE CHARLOTTE GAINSBOURG marriage is both a beautiful and terrifying thing - something we desperately crave from a fear of dying alone and, yet, we are constantly warned of its difficulty to sustain. charlotte gainsbourg has a great ear for melodrama and atmosphere, turning wedding vows into a breathy, six-minute italo disco number which feels fittingly as joyous as it is ominous 27 WHERE THIS FLOWER BLOOMS TYLER, THE CREATOR i think flower boy was pretty consistent as a whole, but i guess the main charm of this song was hearing frank's vocals over production that reminded me of nostalgia ultra. meanwhile, tyler reminisces of pre-fame life, creating a song bathed in sun-drenched nostalgia which further underscores flower boy's summery aesthetic 26 LOSSS BJORK bjork spends a lot of utopia articulating a sense of optimism and wonder about the modern world, but one of its most powerful moments comes when - for a split moment - her utopia begins to shatter. the lyrics here are some of the most evocative of this year - "my spine curved erotically / tied ribbons on my ankles for you" - while arca's fragmented production underlines the idea of this world of beauty experiencing a cataclysmic destruction as its creator mourns loss 25 MOURNING SOUND GRIZZLY BEAR i never got around to listening to this album (so kelela - lmk how it is) which is surprising given how much i actually liked this. mourning sound is deep rumbling song punctuated by synths which feel like shafts of light piercing through a tree canopy, making for a song which feels so haunting and hollow in its presentation of loss 24 WANNA SIP FEVER RAY i spent a while deliberating on my favourite song from this album but eventually i just went with my original choice - wanna sip, being the first impression of this album, aptly takes a plunge, into the music. if there ever were a song in 2017 where emotion truly permeated every fibre of a song, this would be it - fever ray's vocals feel unhinged while she brandishes the music like a dagger, jabbing it back and forth in a way which is so exhilarating and aggressive 23 DRUGS CHARLI XCX one of number 1 angel's most saccharine moments, only charli could make such a sugary, sardonic hook out of... well, drugs. i guess the song itself semi-ironically adopts the trope of glamourised hedonism in pop music, instead presenting it through the vernacular of a sugar-rush of a pop song that feels equally addictive 22 SHARK SMILE BIG THIEF sometimes the most powerful words are the smallest, the most powerful statements are the most concise. big thief understand how to make small, intimate moments feel colossal, and they do so by handling anecdotes and life events with the most caring, dexterous touch. shark smile narrates a life-changing event, but it elicits its emotional climax in a heart-breaking and hauntingly realistic portrayal of survivor's guilt with a few simple words - "and i said woo / baby, take me too" 21 CALL TICKETRON RUN THE JEWELS part of run the jewels' success is their ability to offset their more political moments with more effortlessly fun ideas - call the tickerton being a visceral bop about performing at madison square garden. it's a fun track that begs to be unleashed on a crowd; even if they aren't performing at msg, this song feels like it needs to be Spoiler
Tom Vercetti Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 I like Ronny J's Travi$ Scott impression on Equalizer. Top Bjork and Charli choices I feel Grizzly Bear had better singles than Mourning Sound, but not a bad choice. Deadly Valentine was the first song I heard from Charlotte and it convinced me enough to check her album out.
theblackestday Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Love Where This Flower Blooms. It has strings and Frank Ocean so it's automatically great. Most people pay it dust but Drugs has always been my favorite track from N1A, so slay. Wanna Sip and Shark Smile are perfection and yay @ Hairlosss, the best sing on Utopia

World Eater Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Pain is on my bottom 3 from A Deeper Undestanding nn. Cute but maybe too immediate for me, idk. That 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9 punch with #29-21 tho
Eeveelution Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 An update. Deadly Valentine was so unexpected, I wasn't anticipating such an artpop banger from her.The Big Thief, RTJ and Tyler songs are all album highlights and Drugs grew on me recently, tho it's not my Charli fav. And let's pretend I included SOPHIE instead of Miley.
ATRL Moderator Unoriginal Posted December 15, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 15, 2017 Losss (from the one time I've listened to it ) and Shark Smile

I expect "Chanel" to make my "Songs from the Past" list in 2018, if my hunch is correct. "Rose Colored Boy" is my favorite song on After Laughter, truth be told. "Hard Times" never really won me over as much as I assumed it eventually would. "Pain" is great, and don't worry, bluth...I'm coming to the rescue with my dad rock love.
Vilppu Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Quote while yours conditionally often slips into snoozey territory, reminding us of the dull routine married life can fall into I loved almost all of this album, the title track included, but this is correct n. Mourning Sound was my favourite from Grizzly Bear's albern but all of it was really solid imo. Drugs is not my Charli fave but the last minute jdfhdja a highlight in her entire discography.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 15, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 15, 2017 EWWWWW A UTOPIA SONG.
TheWayWeWere Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Deadly Valentine is just something absolutely stunning piece of music, Rest slayed me Losss is one of the lesser evils on Utopia Drugs
