Woo another song from my upper ranks skree

Abra's loosies this year were all nice but nothing brazy. And I wanna be mad at CTTF bc no bridge but hard to deny the chorus. 72-71 a punch

oh wow lwymmd coming for your upper ranks i could not believe it

Wait you put her It Takes Two cover on your list? :skull:

She kinda does do a good job on it ngl.

why wouldn't i???

I've kinda accepted that LWYMMD is kinda.... good?

i think it's still a little all over the place... but she did THAT with the chorus

wasn't expecting likey but i am... happy

don't really remember the taylor song or how it goes, same with the carly one if i'm honest.  but i think i liked that sampha song and will probably have to check his album

the album is good... if not a tiny bit boring in places

"HOT THOUGHTS", WHEEEEEE! Well, if nothing else, I won't be the only person talking about how much I love that song this year.

"Cut to the Feeling" is also nice. :eli:

i'm sure many other ppl will be too!

I wish Carly would serve something new but CTTF kills me still, it's better than a fair part of the standard album for me too.

i wanna see the receipts

70 PUSH LITTLE DRAGON

220px-Little_Dragon_-_Season_High.png

completely unexpected bop from these ppl but it gives me huge inner city teas and it's AMAZING. i also thought i would drop in that i ended up seeing them live at a festival this year and the sound was ****ed up (NOT a drag about their music)

69 KITANA PRINCESS NOKIA

1992deluxe.jpg

i wish the majority of princess nokia's music was exciting as her throwing hot soup over a racist but she delivers sometimes. "MORTAL KOMBAT I'LL SEE YOU MANANA" is such a ridiculous and amazingly colossal hook which is what we NEED

68 CPR CUPCAKKE

xbgyf.png

second funniest song of the year after hey hey hey. but nah i often really marvel at cupcakke's lyrical creativity at making the most explicit and inappropriate euphemisms. it doesn't hurt that the beats r usually good too!

67 CARAMELO DURO MIGUEL

67e5b4e0572b354606cd0dc5529030ee.1000x1000x1.jpg

i often feel that miguel is always trying to fit in with the cool kids in an endearing way, but he delivered his own interpretation of a 2017 latin pop smash and u can't fault him for the fact that it bops hard

66 TAKE ME ALY & AJ

DO2XYaPUQAAgXZz.jpg

aly & aj learn from the best that, if u'r going to make some cult pop bop for the gays, make it sound like e-mo-tion

65 I WANNA BE LIKE YOU IBEYI

ibeyi_ash.jpg

i feel like i'm gonna be dragged for this choice but this gives me big mid-00s r&b vibes and it makes me feel nostalgic OKAY

64 GUAP YAEJI

76341-yaeji.jpg

now before y'all drag me i'm doing one song per album/ep on this list SO RAINGURL STILL IS YET TO COME OKAY. but while ep2 was (i guess) yaeji's unequivocal breakout where she really showed personality, i don't think that undermines her first ep in which she really expertly makes atmospheric bops which don't necessarily narrate nightlife, but vividly evoke it like a 3am uber ride through the city

63 STAINED GLASS REAL ESTATE

real-estate-in-mind-art-1485271185-640x640.jpg

tbf i'm not really sure why this is higher than some songs but real estate are kinda irresistible when they want to be

62 CALL THE POLICE LCD SOUNDSYSTEM

lcd_s.jpg

i think lcd soundsystem occupy this awkward space now where they used to really represent the crowd who were too cool for cool stuff, but now they're a bit too hip to actually represent that now. but anyway i'm not exactly sure what this song is trying to be (is it political) but it gives faint blondie vibes so i guess it works

61 SLIDE CALVIN HARRIS

Calvin_Harris_"Slide"_single_cover.jpg

we all know by now that calvin is super calculated (a mystery how it didn't work out with taylor) but, to his credit, he can be good at what he does, and so i call this, begrudgingly, an effective summery bop. oh and frank sounds great too

Caramelo Duro, Slide and Call the Police in particular >

No one should drag you for including I Wanna Be Like You! It's a groove.

I like Slide but I don't LOVE it, good for him for experimenting though, I guess. CD is one of the least boring songs on Miguel's album. I Wanna Be Like You is an interesting Ibeyi pick. :gaycat3:

PUsh and sweet are so good they make up for the rest of the album.

Hmm kitana is 2016? No?   That’s why it’s not on mine.

Call the police is good.

So is I wanna be like you.

Idk why people would drag ibeyi.

It's better than the title track, MTMOTN, Let's Get Lost, Favourite Color, Love Again, RAWM at least!

Slide, Take Me, CPR, Caramelo Duro were all v good and while LCD's album was cool, I wasn't really feeling this song.

Posted

CPR is lowkey a bop :skull: guilty pleasure for me :fan:

Caramelo Duro :smitten: honey for ears :smitten:

Take Me is sooo good, such a great comeback from girls

"Call the Police" is the song that I keep coming back to from that LCD Soundsystem album. Kind of disappointed in the album, to be honest, but not that song.

And I'm sliding out of the thread. :foot:

Trying to pick favorites:

Caramelo Duro is hit worthy. Love how it sounds similar to feels.

Guap was one of my early yaeji favorites

Slide is huge. Deserved slightly more.

60 BETTER SIT DOWN BOY CONFIDENCE MAN

artworks-000242245996-77m44q-t500x500.jpga random discovery i made while getting my haircut a few weeks ago, all three of the songs these ppl have released are pretty irresistible and serve deee-lite vibes so if u stan kitchsy pop bops then i recommend! better sit down boy continues this kitschy vibe while delivering a pure dopamine rush of a chorus which i challenge anyone to resist

59 S.O. KELLY LEE OWENS

5053760027690_main.jpg

kelly is great at making electronic tracks which feel ambient and nuanced while not being overly forced, and the opening track to this album is pretty blissful and serene while using a nice range of subtle influences

58 PLIMSOLL PUNKS ALVVAYS

alvvays new cover.jpg

possibly one of the most unexpectedly infectious albums of the year, plimsoll punks is, really, a delightfully simple song, but having a song with a pure desire to be joyful and infectious is, often, the most satisfying and comforting thing we can demand from our music

57 LIST OF PEOPLE (TO TRY AND FORGET ABOUT) TAME IMPALA

R-7240348-1437277144-6299.jpeg.jpg

this is good but not i-can't-believe-this-wasn't-on-the-original-album-good so i guess we know who won the battle of the 2015 side b album rejects hihi. but it's still cute nonetheless and continues currents' aesthetic of turning social anxieties into beautiful, acidic landscapes of molten synths and viscous emotions

56 IT TAKES TWO LIL YACHTY FT. CARLY RAE JEPSEN

it-takes-two.jpg

BECAUSE I CAN. the best vocalist in pop is also an amazing hip hop vocalist, are we surprised? it's also nice to hear carly sing on something that isn't an e-mo-tion reject too

55 DON'T SAY NO SEOHYUN

Seohyun_Don't_Say_No_album_cover.jpg

amidst the current ariana drought, the yours truly piano is deeply appreciated, but this song takes that idea and pushes it in a different, more bubblegum direction, delivering an amazingly infectious chorus

54 HAVANA CAMILA CABELLO

DQEBCaDXUAETyLQ.jpg

there's something really disarming about havana, from the way it turned a michelle-who-thought-she-was-a-beyonce into someone who actually successfully laid four graves in her wake, to the fact that it really sneaks up on the listener. before you know it, that latin piano riff is wedged in your brain, a part of your heart clings to that deliciously satisfying hook, while the rest of your heart is, somehow, in havana. oh and it gave young thug a hit. what's not to love?

53 BETTER MAGGIE ROGERS

933374dc.jpg

maggie rogers is one of the few reddit-hyped artists i can actually get behind because i think she has great potential, being able to evoke beautiful alaskan landscapes in her songs through her marriage of cold electronic music and a warm, folk heart. better goes a step further incorporating outisde noises into its production which magnifies this feeling being with nature and experiencing a moment of clarity

52 NAIL POLISH MAI LAN

51 ONYANKOPON WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA

wpcl000012464_LLL.jpg

there's a real sense of wonder and imagination that animates wednesday campanella's work, from their choice of strangely satisfying noises in their songs to their unconventional song structures - and onyankopon delivers just that, the drop which appears around a minute in is a moment of pure joy

Strip That Down in the top 50, didn't see that coming!

Call the Police is really good so not sure why I stopped listening after the album drop. LD coming thru was a nice surprise + Kitana was the only thing by her I vibed w that much tbh

U nailed it with Havana but same way it snuck up on me I got bored with it pretty quick too

Posted

It Takes Two is THE random bop I was waiting for my whole life :katie2: Also liked S.O., Slide, Call the Police and List of People, which was the only song I truly enjoyed from Tame Impala's EP.

Posted

Ahh yes I'm here for It Takes Two!

I lowkey didn't want Camila to bang but Havana is just too good.

Posted

Oop, a couple of songs which may or may not be on my list.
