Red Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 I like "Homemade Dynamite", but...I don't know, it just hasn't stuck with me like other songs off of Melodrama have. Maybe I should revisit it soon. I really liked at least one song off of Masseduction. It's not "Sugarboy", though.
artangels Posted December 17, 2017 Author Posted December 17, 2017 (edited) The first thing you think about looking and Poly-Ana tracklist is Aphex Twin then you play the album and you realise that it sounds like a mix of Aphex Twin, Opiate and a little bit of Mura Masa I love this FM synth based album and the fact that it reminds me of While You Were Sleeping by Opiate is a great thing since it's my ultimate favourite album ever. I think it's one of these albums that you just know that are special for you and even If you're not replaying them 24/7 you respect them and think that they are very influential for you. Highlight: I think you should listen it from the start to the end or it doesn't make sense at all 8.5+++/10 Spoiler Here's my very personal post about this: “I'm so glad I came but I can't wait to leave” St. Vincent, “Slow Disco” Okay I don't know what happened and I don't know how to rate this album at all and I don't think it deserves this place but i don't think it's worse than the albums I already revealed. The thing about this album is that I was so hyped for this since I'm a stan of Annie's work and everyone familiar with me knows how much I spammed the MASSEDUCTION thread. I didn't get the breakdowns of people saying that this is her worst work and it feels diet or something like this. I have no problem with her going more pop. I mean Grimes did that drastically but the quality of work was so high compared to her previous work that there is nothing to hate about Art Angels. But back to MASSEDUCTION - after all of the hype is gone and the songs are little bit too overplayed you can see that this album is kinda random and Annie struggles with finding her new sound and compromises her lyrics for the sake of more pop oriented instrumentals. I blame Jack Antonoff No but seriously. I really do blame him because he's one trick pony. His production ruined a lot of my personal favourite albums this year and I am dissapointed that St. Vincent became his victim but whatever makes her happy I guess. The album of course have strong highlights like the title track, Sugarboy, Savior and Happy Birthday Johnny. Other tracks are pretty forgettable, overproduced, overthinked they are lacking something special, soul or something like that. Yet, I always like to see things from the bright side and I am going to always support St. Vincent as an artist just like any of my faves as individual acts. Other St. Vincent albums they’ve had an amazing and beautiful impact in my life and I don't know if I can say the same thing about Ass and Duct Tape St.Vincent… Good luck. Jack Antonoff… You can choke. St. Vincent…Thank You. You’ve given me the ultimate fan experience and you’ve been so inspirational. All of your albums. “Of course I blame me.” St. Vincent, “Happy Birthday, Johnny” ?/10 Spoiler Pretty much the same situation as with Poly-Ana but this time it's miles better. I can say that I've never heard something simmilar to this album. It's just so special and inspiring in every way. It may seems boring because it sounds like one song but who cares tbh? The atmosphere and the arrangement of this album is not easy to forget. STUNNING Highlight: I think you should listen it from the start to the end or it doesn't make sense at all. 9/10 Spoiler Would one of the best male artist dissapoint this time? Well after listening to Too Bright, maybe? I mean having such high expectations after listening to Too Bright is something unreachable. I love No Shape he served some career highlights and some AMAZING visuals. But I think it's been overrated by everyone this year. I don't think it's THAT GOOD. It may look stupid because it's literally in my top 10 but I just thought he would snatch like #5. He's one of my favourite artist for christ sake. Highlight: already mentioned Go Ahead and Alan just because of my stan eyes a little minus. -9/10 Spoiler Edited December 17, 2017 by artangels
Vxspertine Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Homemade Dynamite grew on me a little but I still don't think it's one of the better tracks on Melodrama Roll With It was... ok Go Ahead definitely had some of the better lyrics on that album Sugarboy is fat and can choke

I am, mostly because it somewhat recalls I'm a Mother which I LOVE It's not exactly Best Of-worthy though, but again, Go Ahead is also a questionable choice
