Vxspertine Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Melodrama I agree with what you said about it and yeah, some of the lyrics on this album are questionable Damn You NEED to get to Kendrick's other projects, TPAB and GKMC are some of the best records of the decade The rest can choke

Lazuli Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 Frontline Body Memory as your best Utopia song? Melodrama, Damn, Reputa
artangels Posted December 19, 2017 Author Posted December 19, 2017 (edited) Oh wow! First time listening to this album I knew it will snatch such a high place because I was shocked on how good it was. The sampling the structures and everything is just so perfect for me. Some songs can get too repetetive but it doesn't matter at all. The creepy and ethereal amtosphere in 'Minnesota / Eas Fors / Naked' alone is just wow... I will definitely take time and lurk into Blanck Mass more because that was such an inspiring record! Highlight: already mentioned Silent Treatment and Minnesota / Eas Fors / Naked 9/10 Spoiler Fever Ray LOST @artangel is SHAKING (in the habitual) ARTANGELS SHUNS FEVER RAY. But okaylet's get into the record. Fever Ray released an album after such a long period of time and no one knew what's coming. What we get is an amazing sexual awakening record and Karin is more open than ever. It's almost like her rebirth album which is beautiful to look at. Her debut album was this escaping/lonely/living as a witch in winter in the forest and this is like her getting into the town and getting urban wanting to get ****ed up. Plunge definitely can be compared with The Knife previous albums. You can definitely see every of their albums in that particular record. I don't think it's bad it's kinda great but I wish Karin explored more of her characteristic sound no matter how it sounds. I enjoyed and still enjoy this record A LOT but I think Karin could develop this a little bit more. In terms of the production and lyrics as well. Maybe I misunderstood this record and it's made to suppose to feel you want more because I want more (give me more give me more) But it almost sounds like there's understatement and in a bad way. Tracks like title track are not the tea and I just really wish she could give us something more solid that would almost be exhausting to listen. Ignoring my thoughts I think it's one of the greatest records but it's definitely not her best. Plunge is a great album and that's it. Highlight: already mentioned IDK About You and Mustn't Hurry 9/10 Spoiler Who's that lady that took your place Karin? Yup. Skinny legend Kelela. I've been following her work ever since she put out Rewind. I was kinda impressed I think everyone who heard it was. Time goes by and I didn't really cared about her until she released this album. May I say this - I was sooooooooooooooooooo disappointed. I was really disappointed. I thought everything sounds the same, that it's too lazy that the mixing/mastering is off that the production is mediocre. But as the time went and I started listening to it more I started to like it. There is something about this record that I can't really explain. Something almost like spice. It's like the smell of cinnamon and candles at the autumn evening. Listening to this album while watching leaves fall is the greatest circumstance that you can listen to this album. I started to connect with the lyrics and the theme of the album and analyzing everything and I just fell in love with this record. Right now I think that the production is not off and It's supposed to sound like this. BOPS like LMK and Blue Light prove that Kelela can still slay us but in a different way. I don't know what to say about it more I wish I could talk hours about it but I just won't. I think my last sentence is a little bit like the core of the album. Ahh my ****ing fave! Highlight: already mentioned Frontline, Better and Onanon. 9/10 Spoiler . Just that listen Was all there is Every cell in my body Lined up for her Legs a little open Once again AWAKEN MY SENSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES TLDR (ignore my spelling mistakes i'm a flop and it was rushed) Oh my god it seems like it's been a long time but not really. Since I got into Bjork so many things happened in my life and it really feels like It's been 10 years since Vulnicura for me. It's actually the first era I participate fully. I was there before the announcment and after. I wasn't really keen on concept of Utopia. I thought it would really sound so obvious - paradise, sweet candies, very cool and interesting yeah. As the press went on and the concept was more developed I was shaking. I really wanted to listen to it as fast as possible. And once again my point was proven - don't listen to others portraying the album before the premiere because you can be pretty much disappointed. The hype was really high and reading all these stuff about airy synths flutes and all of the beautiful concept was killing me. When it first leaked I wasn't sure how to feel about this album. A lot of time the greatest albums at first are not fully appreciated by me and I proved it at my Take Me Apart writeup. Arisen My Senses was too loud for me. I could really hear the Arca influence in the album. I think we were all pretty much disappointed at first with The Gate because the Arca influence was so strong. (It vanishes throughout the album) Arisen My Senses is almost like AIFOL. It's the awakening of new chapter and life and it's a great opener. At first listening it was almost chaotic like you're really entering some another world. You don't really know what's going on and what to expect from the album. Blissing Me comes on and we hear beautiful Vespertine tease. It's so calming and almost like Arisen My Senses sequel but in a different way. Then The Gate starts and the darkness of Utopia is starting to develop. At this point it feels almost like you're in that world and it's your reality. You suddenly know everything about it. The title track is starting to play and you're starting to hear the first flute arrangement on the album and you sort of wanna think...is that all? Is Utopia supposed to be like this? It feels almost exotic like you're in a jungle. It's kinda suffocating. Then my Body Memory kicks in and the weather in Bjork's utopia is cold and everything is frozen. Nothing to be said about Body Memory because I spoke about it before in my rate and how much I admire it. You can't really tell if another song is starting and then you hear completely different lyrics and you are shocked. It's Features Creatures y'all! I was very hyped to hear it and I wasn't expecting this to sound like it but I am not disappointed, one of my personal highlights. Courtship starts and the storm clouds are gone. Everything is fine again at least when it comes to the feeling of this track. It's a cute bop but the lyrics about rejection are pretty sad to be honest but happy at the same time (?) The transition between Courthsip and Losss is very well placed because then Losss is all about the love that failed to happen. Sue Me is for sure confrontational. When the title was revealed everyone was like what is this. We were ready to get messy and I hope Matthew feels like **** while listening to it. Sue ha! Tabula Rasa is a great followup to Sue Me. It's all about Bjork's children and once again pretty confronational. Loss, Sue Me and Tabula Rasa are all connected and they make sense with each other. They are almost like a full story. Claimstaker is a nice back to Utopia's escapism and the track gives you Medulla realness. Paradisia is pretty useless Saint is totally unexpected. When it finally burst out with happy melody and her vocals all over the track it almost feels like it's a happiness exploding. I like to think that this song is about music but as an person. Or when I like to be more abstract I tend to think it's an reference to homogenic character as she is a warrior that fights with love instead of weapons. Future Forever is a great ending. Again it gives so much hope and peace. Utopia is a great record and I think that when we ignore the concept of this being another world, then we can see it in another light which is almost like it's so real about our world. I think she really did a great job and it's one of her best records. 10/10 Spoiler Thank you so much for participating in my countdown! It was a great fun for me and I hope you had a great time too. I am a grateful...grapefruit. Edited December 20, 2017 by artangels
