Maddox Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 H.E.R. and Sampha Demi's album was cute, Daddy issues and Ruin the friendship were the highlights for me
Fruity Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Update ugly flop P.s. distraction by kehlani better make the songs list
Navyofbadgals Posted December 13, 2017 Author Posted December 13, 2017 Top 20 Albums: #15-11 recap Spoiler #20 H.E.R. - H.E.R. #19 Sampha - Process #18 Run The Jewels - Run The Jewels 3 #17 Kacy Hill - Like A Woman #16 Demi Lovato - Tell Me You Love Me #15 Drake - More Life Whilst Drake presented More Life as a 'playlist', we all know it's either a mixtape or an album. Either way.. it's here! Drake has been somewhat underrated on ATRL (and overrated by the gp, but that's besides the point) and I feel like Views definitely changed a lot of minds here on ATRL, in the bad way. I personally wasn't a fan of that album either, it had some fun tracks, but was ultimately without a doubt his worst work. With More Life we get a little bit of everything, some slower tracks, some dancehall bops and some harder hitting songs. It's quite a diverse playlist and I can safely say that everyone can find at least 1 song that they will like. Now being fair, More Life isn't up with his best albums, but it's still fun and very enjoyable. standouts: Passionfruit, Blem, 4422, Sacrifices (mostly cause of Thug's verse) #14 SZA - CTRL shocker? perhaps. I thought this would end up higher on my list too, and I honestly can talk about why it's still a solid album, but I'd rather just explain the relatively low placement. First of all I felt like CTRL was a stepdown from Z. Whilst both weren't boundary-breaking, I felt like Z came closer, and is just more fun and unique to listen to. Secondly I feel like the whole album has quite a few standouts, yet the other tracks are somewhat 'just there'. The album also didn't really wow me as much as it did for others. (also sidenote, but 20 something is her worst song (from the tracks that I've heard from her)) Besides that, CTRL remains a solid effort that I still did enjoy and I still think it deserved this spot in my top 20, and I'm happy for the recognition she is getting. standouts: Pretty Little Birds, Wavy (interlude), Drew Barrymore, Doves In The Wind #13 Susanne Sundfør - Music for People In Trouble The benefits of stanning for Rih's ANTI can get you as far as people legit discovering you because of it. Pretty much the case for me and Susanne. I've actually haven't delved into her other albums yet (I've heard they aren't similar to this one at all in style though). I did discover this album and it's a weird one. When I'm not in the mood this pretty much is a snoozefest, but when you sit back, relax and just let the music work into you, you really begin to notice the beauty of the record (I know that this sounds kinda pretentious lmao, but it does make sense) All in all, Susanne's album is a compelling, calming record, with neat instrumentals, a great voice to carry the tracks, and more-than-decent lyrics. It's just a very love-able record. standouts: Mountaineers, The Golden Age, Undercover, The Sound Of War #12 Lana Del Rey - Lust For Life Lust for Life is a fun album, and perhaps the record that most looks like BTD so far. I feel like that's also the problem of this album. Like UV or Honeymoon, or not, but there's no denying that they had a clear direction and vision behind it. It goes from urban tracks, to pure country, which can be fun, but I kinda liked the clear vision of her previous two albums. Besides that, LFL is a very fun and nice album, and perhaps her most enjoyable record after BTD. I don't think the country-ish tracks are as strong (in particular Tomorrow Never Came, yuck) but still a nice album where Lana still experiments with her style but remains the artist for which we know her. standouts: Summer Bummer, Get Free, Change, Coachella - Woodstock in My Mind (yes, sue me) #11 Lorde - Melodrama another shocker? idk. Melodrama never really was in the running for my AOTY (unlike many, many others on here). I feel like Melodrama is a solid record seeing how it's definitely 'fun', but also honest and sincere. But it's not that good. That's why I feel like the poppiest tracks on the album (Homemade Dynamite and The Louvre) are the weaker cuts of the album. All in all this is a solid pop record, which doesn't feel the need to recreate Pure Heroine, but it's something that perhaps can't be topped. PH was really unique and different, and I don't feel like Melodrama captures that same magic. Perhaps had I never listened to PH this would've been much higher, but nevertheless I can see that it's a solid follow-up. standouts: Writer In The Dark, Supercut, Sober, Hard Feelings/Loveless next update tomorrow, with dishonorable mentions of both songs and albums

Vilppu Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 I would sue you for SB/Change more than for the top 5 sing Coachella tbh. I adored CTRL, MFPIT and Melodrama, you mentioned most of my fave trax too
Mark Rih Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Quote standouts: Pretty Little Birds, Wavy (interlude), Drew Barrymore, Doves In The Wind what about Prom tho
theblackestday Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Ahh best update yet. Love all of these minus Melodrama. Agree with your write-ups for Lust for Life and More Life. Your highs for Bible for Christians in Trouble and Lust for Life are on point if we ignore Ratchella. I'm glad talent (Rih) helped you discover talent (Susanne). Make sure to listen to Ten Love Songs, the best pop album of the millennium.

Tom Vercetti Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Nice albums (besides more life). Liking the majority of the standouts nonetheless. Curious what the top 10 will be
potent Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 I use LFL and Melodrama! Most of the songs on LFL sound the same tbh but there are some highlights
World Eater Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Tried my best to get into Ctrl but I just couldn't Loved Susanne's and Lorde's albums, although I should give the latter a few more spins
Playa Playa Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 We basically have the same favourite tracks from all these albums I'm also not quite as into Melodrama like everyone else but I really really like it too. #11 is a good spot!

Remmy Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Albums #15-11: Lust for Life is a cute gorl but there were some weak songs here and there. The highs were REALLY high though, my top 5 really came thru. Yes at you shouting out Get Free + Change Melodrama missing the top 10, wow She topped PH for me, but both are fantastic and pretty much on the same level as one another. Hard Feelings / Loveless is absolute perfection.
Diet Pepsi Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Ctrl & Melodrama both super lowI am shocked
SLIME Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Sampha Lorde RTJ Real talk I never planned on listening to a Demi album but everyone with good taste seems to have something nice to say (+ I liked one of the ballads) so eye might have to give her a spin
lhdang2000 Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Melodrama did not deserve that. Jk, glad you include it on your list.
volition Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Susanne make sure you check out The Brothel, The Silicone Veil, and Ten Love Songs, TSV in particular is my favourite And I loved that she stanned for ANTI too
