Top 20 Albums: #20-#16

Here is the start of my top 20 albums of the year, based on how much I liked them, and how well they've aged over a relatively short span of time!

#20 H.E.R. - H.E.R.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor H.E.R. ALBUM

A singer I discovered through Rih ha Instagram (thanks legend). The album could be stronger had it cut a few songs here and there, but it has some nice standouts.

standouts: 2, Facts, Focus

#19 Sampha - Process

Process - Sampha album.jpg

Perhaps best enjoyed just by one listen. Process did age nicely, but it's not per se an album I can keep coming back to. Nevertheless it's a very solid and beautiful body of work.

standouts: Incomplete Kisses, (No One Knows me) Like The Piano, Under

#18 Run The Jewels - Run The Jewels 3

RunTheJewels3.jpg

This is just a very smart record. It tackles politics, but is also fun and not too serious (which happens quite often with political music). It has hard hitting beats that impress on first listen, but also causes problems for later listens. Don't think the album as a whole is something I can keep coming back to, but there are still nice standouts, and the first few listens were great enough to earn a place in my top 20.

standouts: Thieves!, Panther like A Panther, A Report to the Shareholders/Kill Your Masters.

#17 Kacy Hill - Like A Woman

A young woman with red hair wearing fur sitting and staring into the distance in front of a black background.

There's something very enchanting about this record, and I just can't really put my finger on it. The whole album is very solid, though the obvious standout, which is the title track, makes this a great listen. A very accesible album to get into, yet not so mainstream either.

standouts: Like A Woman, Lion, Hard To Love

#16 Demi Lovato - Tell Me You Love Me

Demi Lovato - Tell Me You Love Me (Official Standard Album Cover).png

A surprising record tbh. I went into this era with well.. low expectations. Haven't really been feeling Demi at all after Unbroken, especially Confident left a bad taste in my mouth. TMYLM is different, Demi finally gives her voice the right songs (and not songs like Stone Cold). It's also fun, and more focused, and ultimately her most focused and most cohesive body of work. Perhaps this is relatively low on my list, but it's a very enjoyable album that will definitely be in my playlists in the time to come.

standouts: Tell Me You Love Me, Only Forever, Hitchhiker

next update hopefully tomorrow, but maybe on thursday xo :heart2:

Fifth Harmony :clap3:let’s just say it ended up on the very opposite end of the spectrum on my best of:eli:

I totally agree with what you said about hfk and barely spin it anymore. Kehlani too

kii didn't expect anything else from you for 5H :eli:

I found the Calvin album a biT underwhelming after the slayage of the flawless singles

I mostly liked Allie X's album and Harry's was pretty nice too :clap3:

ehh I somewhat get that. The (promo) singles are definitely the highlights

Glad these didn't make the final list even if Harry and Calvin were cute xo

Nice set of HMs. Jessie's could've been better but I did like the singles, and I liked Collxtion 2 at first but it didn't keep up with me.

thanks :heart2:

They are all deserving honourable mentions except for 5H, which is an improvement from 7/27 but still bad.

scrihm, well that's why it's not in the top 20 n. But I don't think it's bad tbh, is it great, eh? it's definitely decent imo

Okay I know Halsey and hopeless fountain kingdom definitely wasn't the worst album I heard this year so yes I am familiar with something!

Jessie Ware's album was nice, but a bit too safe compared to 'Devotion'. I prefer it to 'Tough Love' I think though. Allie X's was nice too!

Yeah it was a bit safe, I guess that's what made me like it, her other albums aren't Björk like, but still not the easiest to get into

23 hours ago, Kang. said:

I forgot to check a lot of these when they came out whoops, but Calvin >

Who would have thought he had it in him?

23 hours ago, madonnas said:

I wish Collxtion II was better but there are only like 3 songs that are really worth repeating.

ehh I have more songs that I like, but there are definitely obvious standouts

23 hours ago, Wicked said:

That Kehlani album is a ****ing BORE, homegirl fell OFF.

I guess it kinda helped that I listened to ha album before getting into the rest of her material

22 hours ago, shelven said:

You better stan for 5H! :clap3: The precursor to Lauren's solo album being #1 when it's eventually released :duca:

HFK deserves Top 20, but at least it gets acknowledged :weeps:

ahhh can't wait

22 hours ago, K$Ellie said:

Fifth Harmony didn't even deserve a mention but I can't @ you putting 7/27 on your worst list :lipton:

hopeless was done wrong, such an amazing album :emofish: Glasshouse and Harry Style's placements are good :flower:

SweetSexySavage is a slay :'( CollXtion II is good, don't mind it missing the top 20 but Need You is cute :cm:

Need You is not cute and neither is 7/27, sue me!

22 hours ago, Tsareena said:

I like your honorary mentions. most of them were like good but didn't capture my attention enough except Kehlani's and Halsey's. I still love both

thanks :heart2:

Out of the HM list I've listened only to HFK, Collxtion II and Funk Wav Bounces V1 and I think the HM ranking is pretty deserved for them. They are decent but not really outstanding. I had high hopes for Calvin's album but ended up using only Rollin (A SOTY) and Skrt On Me

I like Skrt On Me the least prolly nnn

Rollin is great though

Will never forgive you for placing the amazing "7/27" among your worst list last year but I am happy you saw the light and...

excited for this, of course! :duca:

HMs - Albums: Wooow at Harry Styles and CollXtion II getting snubbed :cries: They deserved WAY better!
I actually agree that Need You is the weakest from the latter, but it doesn't really bring down the album.
hopeless fountain kingdom - a cute gorl but it's been overrated from day 1. :michael:

yeah it was kind of overrated, but still quite decent.

Sampha :clap3:

I like volume 2 of H.E.R a bit more than the first.

Demi :heart2: The Confident slander tho  Love that album, and I rarely ever use the "aged badly" excuse but Unbroken definitely doesn't sound like it used to. :celestial5: The very underrated Hitchhiker being among your favorites :smitten:
