Navyofbadgals Posted December 19, 2017 Author Posted December 19, 2017 (edited) Top 20 albums: #5-1 #5 Alma - Ma Peau Aime ahh ms. Alma (not the fat one), really surprised me this year! Along with Jana Burčeska, she had my favorite ESC entry. Sadly Requiems original version had to be tweaked a bit because of rules or whatever, but luckily this album includes both (I even warmed up to the ESC version). I am honestly always a bit iffy about post-ESC albums, I've got 2 GREAT ones from it (Sad Singalong Songs by Anouk, and Heal by Loreen), but other albums tend to be filled to the brim with fillers, but this one really surprised me. It's an incredibly beautiful and cohesive album and I can't wait what Alma will put out next, she really impressed me with this beautiful French album. standouts: Requiem, Quand les vagues reviennent, Ivre, La chute est lente, J'ai, Ma peau aime Edited December 19, 2017 by Navyofbadgals
Navyofbadgals Posted December 19, 2017 Author Posted December 19, 2017 #4 Kelela - Take Me Apart Initially I was a bit dissappointed with this one. LMK was amazing and I hoped to find more hard-hitting bangers on this one. But after a few listens I was completely sold. Take Me Apart is modern R&B at its finest. It's a much more interesting album than CTRL, with more replay value too. It's mellow, but never boring. It's new and fresh, but still has a nice nod to the classic R&B. Take Me Apart is amazing from start to finish. standouts: LMK, Waitin, Frontline, Truth Or Dare, Onanon, Blue Light
Navyofbadgals Posted December 19, 2017 Author Posted December 19, 2017 #3 Kendrick Lamar - DAMN. What a year it was for Kendrick, whew. I know who I am rooting for this year at the Grammy's. DAMN. is smart for knowing how to fit in with the mainstream media, while at the same time being unique and not conforming to the trends of the day. It's his poppiest album yet, but he hasn't dumbed himself down and we end with an album that is incredible from start to finish. Beginning with the underrated album opener BLOOD. to hardhitting songs like DNA. and HUMBLE., to more fun songs like LOYALTY. with an incredible performance by ms. Rih. DAMN. is fun, conscious and is the most qualified for AOTY this year. It has the quality, it's overdue, and it racked up the success. standouts: LOYALTY., BLOOD., ELEMENT., YAH., DNA., PRIDE.
RandomName Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 Hi Whooo DAMN making Top 3! I dont love rap but he really did that.
Navyofbadgals Posted December 19, 2017 Author Posted December 19, 2017 #2 St. Vincent - MASSEDUCTION My most played album of 2017 that isn't called Anti MASSEDUCTION (not masseducation like I used to think ff) is an incredible album and I would like to thank ATRL for this. I always knew of St. Vincent but never really gave her music a chance till the release week of MASSEDUCTION. Was very impressed with both her self-titled album and Actor. Both very different, and the tracks from MASSEDUCTION that were already out proved that we were in for yet another album. St. Vincent is such a unique artist, and MASSEDUCTION is yet another proof of her string of quality albums. It's witty, interesting, complex, but still accessible. With beautiful ballads and rockier/poppier tracks. I do hope that this is the last time she works with Antonoff (even though he got lucky with his one) incredible standouts: Los Ageless, New York, Smoking Section, Pills, Happy Birthday Jonny, Slow Disco . . . and my #1 is..
Navyofbadgals Posted December 19, 2017 Author Posted December 19, 2017 #1 Loreen - RIDE I've seen quite some lesser positive feedback on this one in recent times (mostly by tasteless thots, don't listen to them please). But RIDE is absolutely fantastic. It's quite different from Heal, and I'm happy she didn't try to recreate it. It's been quite a hard year for Loreen. She participated to be the Swedish entry for ESC, and was immediately the one to beat, but in the end she didn't even make the Swedish finale (truth be told, she had an incredible performance, but Statements was doomed to flop :/). After that she delivered us an EP of 3 very decent songs. Nothing special but similar to Heal, so it would please fans. Ride is much different. Statements could perhaps fit on it, but even that is much different. It's gritty, it has traces of psychedelic rock, but remains Loreen throughout. It's an album with a clear vision, and it's incredibly cohesive. Every single thing about the album has impressed me and I am so grateful that Loreen decided to come back with an album and I hope she brings out another one. This more 'depressing', more moody album fits 2017 perfectly, and it's amazing too (bonus points ki) Thank you Loreen standouts: Hate The Way I Love You, Fire Blue, Jupiter Driver, I Go Ego, '71 Charger, Love Me America full list Spoiler #20 H.E.R. - H.E.R. #19 Sampha - Process #18 Run The Jewels - Run The Jewels 3 #17 Kacy Hill - Like A Woman #16 Demi Lovato - Tell Me You Love Me #15 Drake - More Life #14 SZA - CTRL #13 Susanne Sundfor - Music for People In Trouble #12 Lana Del Rey - Lust For Life #11 Lorde - Melodrama #10 Tove Lo - Blue Lips #9 Miguel - War & Leisure #8 Dua Lipa - Dua Lipa #7 Kesha - Rainbow #6 Tyler The Creator - Flower Boy #5 Alma - Ma Peau Aime #4 Kelela - Take Me Apart #3 Kendrick Lamar - DAMN. #2 St. Vincent - MASSEDUCTION #1 Loreen - RIDE
