I wish I stanned for LFL more :'(

So Good and Lust for Life, two of the best pop albums this year. :jamming:

Posted

Let me play catch up :gaycat3: Haven't checked some of your picks but Kehlani's album was cute. A bit of a downgrade from YSBH but there are some nice cuts on the album. Like your standouts! Lil Uzi Vert surprised me a lot and was a great find this year :clap3: Sabrina slayed me too. Lana :clap3:

And I actually thought the Zara was decent (thought it was going to be generic crap lol). Funeral is probs my favorite out of the album tracks.

Glad Kehlani made the list (just barely) but she deserved to be higher :emofish:

Reputation and Tell Me You Love Me are too low as well :shakeno:

Party's Over was a cute EP :jamming: my standouts are the same :heart2:

CollXtion II was a cute girl :flower: Mess @ So Good :rip: I only like 3 songs on that album :toofunny3:

Lust For Life has some nice songs but it had too much filler imo :katie:

we love mixed feeling

not sure if you're going to like the top 10 better, but you will love the next update for sure :fan:

Can't relate but it's a beautiful album and I can see why someone would pick it as favorite :heart2:

#11 - #6 coming up!

Posted (edited)

So far:

HM: Kehlani - SweetSexySavage

#20: Demi Lovato - Tell Me You Love Me

#19: Taylor Swift - Reputation

#18: The Chainsmokers - Memories...Do Not Open

#17: Astrid S - Party's Over

#16: Allie X - CollXtion II

#15: Lil Uzi Vert - Luv Is Rage II

#14: Sabrina Claudio - About Time

#13: Zara Larsson - So Good

#12: Lana Del Rey - Lust For Life

TOP 20 ALBUMS

#11 - #6

#11 Kendrick Lamar – DAMN.

Kendrick has never been my fave rapper and he probably will never be (personal taste, I just don’t like his voice too much) but I can’t deny how great this album is. Love the concept behind it and how he went for a bit more mainstream sound but always staying true to himself. It deserves all the praise it got and I hope he gets the AOTY Grammy for it next February. Standouts: Humble, DNA, Loyalty (mainly because supreme talent is there), Element.

#10 Harry Styles – Harry Styles

So this was the album I deleted by mistake :rip: I had to absolutely inclued it because Harry’s debut was one of 2017 biggest surprises. He’s always been my fave 1D member, the one with the best voice and the best presence, that was going to have a big career after the band. I was expecting him to go super pop, to have a massive era with radio deals, tons of promo, big videos etc... but in the end nothing about Harry’s selftitled was like that, the era went basically under the radar, and the music was different from the expected: he released a pop rock album with traditional influences, something we missed from a mainstream act in 2017. I really appreciated this LP, might be banal to say but it truly feels timeless: with this album he showed us that he’s not going to be just another basic pop boy. Standouts: Woman, Sign Of The Times, Two Ghosts.

#9 Dua Lipa – Dua Lipa

We love the it girl of 2017. With her selftitled debut album Dua confirmed herself as one of the most interesting new pop stars of the last few years, and she did that thanks to her powerful raspy voice over super catchy but not basic pop productions. The album isn’t higher because of the ‘So Good’ effect, but it made it to my top 10 since it was less evident here; there aren’t bad songs/evident fillers on the album imo, just a few weaker ones. Standouts: Last Dance, New Rules, Hotter Than Hell, Garden, New Love, Be The One, Homesick (a lot I know).

#8 Tove Lo – Blue Lips

Once again Tove Lo let us enter in her crazy sexual, dramatic and sentimental world. This second phase of Lady Wood contains the last 2 chapters of the ‘saga’: the first one is called ‘Lights Beam’ and it’s more dance-y and carefree, while ‘Pitch Black’ is darker and more reflective, reminding us of Queen Of The Clouds. The overall result is similar to her previous efforts, which is a good thing in this case since these are the vibes I want from her: Tove made us dance leaving her typical sense of melancholy once the lights kicked out (what I’m even writing lmaooo, hope u got what I meant lol). Standouts: Stranger, shedontknowbutsheknows, Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, Hey You Got Drugs?

#7 Kelela – Take Me Apart

These new R&B girls aren’t playing at all. I discovered her only during the last 2 months thanks to the hype on ATRL but y’all had your good reasons for praising her that much. Take Me Apart is a beautiful mix of R&B, electronic and alternative music that doesn’t fail to impress you: the production is magnificent and sultry, and Kelela voice and lyrics are just made for it. You can bop to a good part of the album but at the same time it’s that kind of music that also gets to your feelings. It’s not higher on my list because I really started using the album only during the last period. Standouts: Take Me Apart, Better, LMK, Blue Light.

#6 Halsey – Hopeless Fountain Kingdom

I loved the album immediately when it came out, then I abandoned it for a few months but during the recent period it grew on me again and I started using even some of the songs I didn’t like before, so yeah, it had nice longevity for me. Overall it’s more catchy and mainstream then her debut (Badlands was more pop than alternative too tho) but also more cohesive (the strong point of the album imo) and well-thought; we have some more intimate moments (Sorry) and some more bad-bitch ones (Don’t Play), but they all flow well together; good job Ashley, this is your way. Standouts: Alone, Heaven In Hiding, 100 Letters, Don’t Play.

Top 5 probably coming on sunday evening. If you know me a bit it shouldn't be too hard to predict :eli:

Some great choices :clap3: Kendrick, Harry, Dua, and Kelela :clap3:

Admittedly, I only listened to Dua's album once during its release week :emofish: The problems with releasing too many singles before an album drop.

I mostly like Dua Lipa out of this list

Damn and TMA are my favorites from this batch and i'm pleasantly surprised at the latter being almost top 5. Halsey had a couple of good tunes and was an improvement over her 2015 stuff. Dua + Tove had some hot singles, but album wise, i'm not really convinced.

10 - 6 are all brilliant :smitten:

TMA's standouts are great too

dadt is far from a standout on BL tho :michael:

I was pleasantly surprised by HS too. definitely the best 1D output so far

Posted

DAMN. is a good album, but I feel it's far from his best. :dancehall:

I really need to explore Dua's album, but I have no time too lately. I love New Rules, so I really should try to get into it. :duca:

Harry Style's was such a quality & authentic album, truly surprised me. :)

Poor DAMN. missing the top 10 :dies:

Dua, Take Me Apart, blue lips :clap3:

hfk

Posted

hopeless fountain kingdom  Dua LIpa :jamming:
BLUE LIPS is solid but so far it's her weakest release for me, it's missing a little something.
Harry Styles :worship2: He really did THAT. We love a timeless yet modern king.

SOTT, Two Ghosts, New Rules, Be the One, Homesick, Stranger, sdkbsk, HYGD? getting mentions :smitten:

Posted

Harry debut was suprisingly good, and it's best debut out of all 1D boys, but album didn't really clicked with me besides few songs

Dua album came out too late for me, but there's still big bunch of good pop songs :smitten:

BL is great, but it's still kinda worse than masterpiece QOTC and LW
TMA is absolutely stunning :jonny: I waited for this album since C4M, and it was worth the wait :jonny:

HFK finally gets some praise :clap3: I didn't like this gal, but she SERVE with her music :jonny:

Posted

Kendrick and Kelela :alexz: Talent won :clap3:
