Sunderland 4ever Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 I don't recall a FTP song from their latest album I really liked. As for Katy Perry, I haven't heard any new song from her this year. Crazy, huh?
prézli Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 There is something dislikeable in HAIM. I don't know how to describe it. Witness is like the other Katy albums. Full with fillers.
Little Dark Age Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 sorry for the delay on this anyway here's the rest of my disappointments list No. 04 + No. 03 Quote I've liked pretty much every album Arcade Fire has done to some degree. Going into this cycle I was fully caught up on their discography for the first time and the release of the title track had me mostly on board. The ABBA influences were strong but not discouraging; "Everything Now" is a fine song, achieving a brilliant and yet obviously delicate state of equilibrium. I was so excited I almost pre-ordered one of the bundles. Glad I didn't The final result, 'Everything Now', is not a terrible album. However, that doesn't stop it from being a poorly sequenced, headache inducing nightmare of a project to get through. Hopefully future re-listens will help it out a bit. Quote Ahh we arrive at the first great example of an album I genuinely enjoy making this countdown. The Killers will forever have a special spot in my life: 'Hot Fuss' was one of the first full length albums I really got into and the track "Somebody Told Me" is easily among my top 20 all time favorite singles. In my eyes, the group really can do no wrong. That being said, this album was simply not worth the five year wait. Sure there's a consistent sound and even a few true gems such as "Tyson vs. Douglas" but there are still quite a few sore spots. Some of the tracks are horribly written, others are underwritten and some are denser than a month old bread loaf. Lyrical shortcomings aside, there's nothing particularly innovative or memorable.
TayRianaPH Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Killers + Arcade Fire tho Witness comment on my best of too hun
Little Dark Age Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 No. 2 + No. 1 Quote Lemme just get this outta of the way: 'DAMN.' is a good album. I'm probably in the minority on this but to me each Kendrick era has yielded a better album than the last, with 'untitled unmastered' being my absolute favorite. So when I heard 'Humble' I was obviously excited. Walking away from the first listen, 'DAMN.' felt decent but disjointed. I singled out only a few standouts. Although this still has a chance to make my top albums list, I'm slightly disgusted (maybe disappointed is a better word) with the almost universal acclaim this received. Overpraising undeserving albums to make up for previous injustices is sad, huh? Quote I quite liked their last album and loved the first two singles from this project as well: the new direction displayed on "Feel It Still" and the heavy "Noise Pollution" were enough to get me excited. Outside of these two tracks, however, 'Woodstock' is ill conceived. The non-singles all sound identical; forgettable with subpar lyrics and uninteresting hooks.
World Eater Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Surprised to see DAMN. higher that Everything Now, which was a total trainwreck imo. I mean I get why some people may not like it, but I gotta give it to him for not wanting to make TPAB 2.0 and heading towards a different, in this case more radio-friendly, direction. Overpraising it is another thing, which obviously bothers me, too. Some critics act as if it was on the same level as his two last albums
K$Ellie Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 I didn't have any expectations for Witness so I wasn't disappointed when it turned out to be a mess Not Dua being on the list the album only had like 3 fillers imo

DAMN. is obviously better than Everything Now but I wasn't anticipating that one quite as much hence the lower spot
bluth Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 damn. is pretty excellent but i agrih that kendrick's in this place where people are almost afraid to criticise/point the flaws in his work, of which there are a few in damn. ur #1 song of 16 is flawless too sis
elvenOCEAN Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Everything that you said about "DAMN." stands! Finally someone said it. That being said, I believe it is still better than most of the abums released this year.
TheWayWeWere Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 finally someone who ditches Kendrick altough I think Damn is his best work to date both The Man and Everything Now (song) were so ****ing good, so both album kinda failed to raise expectations
Αnt Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 I agree with Damn. It's very overrated. Although I do like a few tracks.
Topmaster 2 Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 WHAT? Woodstock is AWESOME. DELETE YOUR THREAD NOW.
Lazuli Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 DRAG Everything Now But nooooooooooooo don't drag The Killers I like the album This must be the only place to find Kendrick on a worst of list
ATRL Moderator feelslikeadream Posted December 16, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 16, 2017 So true re: DAMN. It's winning AOTY only because he was robbed in the past and has a solid body of work overall
Remmy Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Yep, Wonderful Wonderful disappointed me as well. I didn't have big expectations but it was just very meeeeeh. Woodstock is the first PTM album I listened to and I enjoyed it But I've heard it's their poppiest record yet, so I can understand.
Little Dark Age Posted December 16, 2017 Author Posted December 16, 2017 (edited) Welcome to my second countdown, highlighting the top 20 worst 'hit' songs of 2017. Prepare to be pissed off cuz lots of ATRL's 'pop girls' made it. To qualify, songs must of either been a single or garnered significant airplay/attention. Arrangements attempting to resemble music created by YouTubers are not songs and are thus not eligible. One song per main artist (sorry Selena ). All songs that charted at least one week on my weekly chart are also excluded, no matter how terrible they were in hindsight (looking at you Adam Levine and Co). And unlike the last list, which contained disappointing, although not necessarily bad albums, this list is composed purely of trash! And if you've commented on my list I'll be sure to comment on yours within the next few days. I, apologize, in, advance, for, excessive, comma, usage. No. 20 - No. 18 Quote Was this really the twentieth worst song of 2017? Doubt I'll ever know: I couldn't even get through a full listen. An Eminem and Beyoncé collaboration being unlistenable kind of says it all doesn't it. Quote I hesitated even including this for obvious reasons and I understand that a sugary song like this might have helped ease Chester's pain but god damn it this is absolutely awful. Not only is it littered with terrible lyrics and the most basic instrumental quirks, it features Kiiara of all people. She can't even sing a full sentence! Quote I like nearly all of A$AP's work, I somewhat enjoy a fair share of Lana tracks as well but this collaboration did nothing for me all. Y'all can claim this is meant to be a chill party track but we all know this is nothing more than Del Rey mining for a hit. She's better than this. Edited December 16, 2017 by cdschart
Queen Conchita Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Walk On Water is truly awful, Beyonce's parts aren't but comparing old Eminem to Eminem on this track results in such disappointment.
Remmy Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Summer Bummer is alright, not in my LFL top 5 but it also doesn't make an appearance in my bottom 5 (I think.) Only listened to Walk On Water once and it was a bore. Pretty much the same for Heavy, but it's listenable.
potent Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 (edited) Your top 20 from last year is full of great songs Heathens, Ibiza, NBLY, Hello, KIB, and of course the number one As for the current list I kinda use Summer Bummer but that would be it, the other two are deserved Edited December 16, 2017 by potent
prézli Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Sans Lana, all of them charted on mine. Good.
Little Dark Age Posted December 16, 2017 Author Posted December 16, 2017 No. 17 - No. 15 Quote Ding ding ding! It's three years in a row on this list for Hailee. We love a legend Quote Undermining a serious issue through sh*tty, edgy lyrics to gain airplay is beyond pathetic. Next. Quote We didn't want a love song written around Twitter functions back at its peak in 2013 and we most certainly don't want one now.
