Little Dark Age Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 (edited) my YTT is looking like a graveyard due to finals and apps but anyway... Now that I've got a little more time and it's December, it's finally time for my YEC. I've been doing year end reviews for the past several years but obviously this is my first countdown here. Those of you that follow my inconsistently updated YTT already have an idea of what's to come but for now just some graphics. The top 100 songs and bubbling will be based on weekly performance on my YTT chart while the top albums will be based on a combination of my results from albumoftheyear.com and most played albums. The award nominees (5-7 in each category) will primarily be based on weekly performance for songs and the above combination for albums and announced a week at a half before the winners are chosen. In all honesty not sure how the winners will be decided yet so stay tuned TOP 20 REVEALED STARTS: December 11 SIX/DAY STARTS: December 12 ENDS: December 13 TEN/DAY STARTS: December 14 ENDS: December 15 TEN/DAY STARTS: December 16 ENDS: December 18 7 DAYS (FIFTEEN/DAY + TOP 10) STARTS: December 23 ENDS: December 29 GENERAL NOMINEES: December 21 GENRE NOMINEES: December 22 WINNERS: December 30 Edited December 21, 2017 by cdschart

GokuRed Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Damn, stellar list last year. Tame Impala's project is attached to so many wonderful memories I have. Kiss It Better and Work were holy as well. Perched for taste!
Little Dark Age Posted December 12, 2017 Author Posted December 12, 2017 (edited) No. 12 + No. 11 Although 2017 was filled with tons of great music, producing more 'loved' albums than 2016, there was still a fair share of disappointments. That's where this countdown comes into play. They aren't necessarily the worst of the worst, but each of these albums fell dramatically short of my expectations. Quote Now I know I'll get some hate for this one, and in all honesty it's a good album but I couldn't help feeling underwhelmed by this. Perhaps it's because I listened to 'Saturation II' first, but 'Saturation' feels lyrically weak and inconsistent. The constant back and forth between dynamic, high energy performances and corny, occasionally ham-fisted moments results in a terrible eyesore of an album in terms of pacing. On a more positive note, listening to the two albums in reverse order helped show the artistic growth between releases, which ultimately made me appreciate each collection more. Quote Dua Lipa no doubt has one of the most unique voices in pop music. That being said, her debut set does little to capitalize on that energy. Instead, 'Dua Lipa' is littered with lifeless, watered down pop radio fillers. The few tracks that do manage to catch the listener's attention are clumped together in the tracklist or even relegated to bonus track status altogether, resulting in an uneven experience. Even worse, the most memorable offerings were all already previously released. I'll chalk this one up to record label manipulation for now but a disappointment nevertheless. jose168 Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 I agree dua lipa was a bit disappointing but mostly because of all the songs we ALREADY had. true true
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 12, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 12, 2017 Dua Lipa was such a bad album The only new good song was New Rules
Little Dark Age Posted December 12, 2017 Author Posted December 12, 2017 (edited) No. 10 + No. 09 Quote Despite what Styles' fans might think, one great song does not make you a legend. It makes you a one hit wonder. Apart from the majestic and highly memorable although not highly replay-able "Sign of the Times" and perhaps the punchy new single "Kiwi", 'Harry Styles' is a dud of an album. The songs go nowhere, languishing as a result of unnecessarily long runtimes and ultimately leave the listener with a bitter aftertaste underscored by confushhion. BRITAIN EXPLAIN! Quote This album is terrible, point blank and period. not even the singles could save it like they did for 'the truth about love' (which produced a then record-holding six top 10s on my weekly chart ). delete it fat. theblackestday Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Highly unpopular opinion but I liked Saturation I more than Saturation II Dua's album was cute I guess.
Diarrhoea Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Agreed on Harry's album, Kiwi is a banger though I actually really liked Dua's album though. Other than Garden (and maybe one other song I can't remember atm) it's pretty consistent imo And yeah Saturation II is far better imo, don't let @theblackestday LIE to you
Little Dark Age Posted December 12, 2017 Author Posted December 12, 2017 No. 08 + No. 07 Quote Foster the People is incredibly talented at disappointing me. I was planning to completely skip checking out this era after they failed to deliver with 'Supermodel' and yet I found myself drawn to "S.H.C" from the tringle release. I even grew to love the other two singles, which put me back on board with the album. And what a fruitless adventure that turned out to be; 'Sacred Hearts Club' is a mind bogglingly bad attempt at hopping on the psychedelic pop/light rock train, with "Sit Next to Me" being the only great new track. I won't even pretend to be mad at the direction they were aiming for (because I admittedly love the overall re-invention of the genre) but to blatantly trend hop and screw it up this badly is unforgivable. Quote I understand artists falling off in quality after a few years between albums: different frames of mind ultimately yield completely independent results. What I cannot understand is artists releasing their some of their strongest output in one year and completely phoning it in the next. Weezer, like another act yet to come on this countdown, falls victim to this strangely recurrent pattern. While 'The White Album' yielded some of Weezer's best works of their career, 'Pacific Daydream' is riddled with cheap lyrics and mid 2000s pop production. Experimenting is important to a band's evolution but this isn't even that. It's being lazy. Not sure how high Rivers is nowadays but he must be up there considering he let J.R. Rotem touch this thing.
