ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted January 1, 2018 Author ATRL Moderator Posted January 1, 2018 50. LCD Soundsystem - Tonite Spoiler The instrumental to this song is SOOO hot. Also I'm starting to really understand the lyrics to this song cause I'm starting to feel out of touch with some new hot pop culture stuff 49. S.E.S. - Paradise Spoiler S.E.S. skillfully take advantage of the fact that the sound in their prime is retro and trendy now and give us a authentic bop that sounds effortless and modern. 48. Jessie Ware - Selfish Love Spoiler Jessie went full spanish Sade on us with this here guys! 47. Katy Perry - Bon Apetit Spoiler Katy Perry's second single pretty much ended the idea that the era was gonna be a "woke" era but it's given us one of her best songs of her career. I think what makes this work is that beneath the sexual innuendos and hypnotic beat there's sort of an air of creepiness? Is this Katy's darkest song? I think so! 46. The Horrors - Something To Remember Me By Spoiler A combination of pretty much every early 80s too cool for school styles would pretty much describe the V album and what I love about this final track is that it's all my favorite trends of both the 80s and the 00s combined. The Human League meets Cut Copy?
World Eater Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 Fire was a messy choice for a lead single tbh I like it now though tonite, Selfish Love and Bon AppéTIT
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted January 1, 2018 Author ATRL Moderator Posted January 1, 2018 45. Girl's Day - I'll Be Yours Spoiler The simple melody and verses allow the producers of this song to go CRAZY throwing in probably like a good 40 or 50 genres in the song at once, it's a frankensong in that way but the song's structure is simple deceiving the listener into thinking its a simple basic song at first but it grows on you. 44. Samantha Urbani - Time Time Time Spoiler 1234 was released... not in 2017, so this is my pick for Samantha. It's one of those songs that reminds me of another song but I still can't remember which one! It gives you 80s sax, but not in a cheesy journey or bon jovi way so therefore I like it. 43. Mai Lan - Nail Polish Spoiler A BOP! A BANGER!!! 42. Lil Uzi Vert - XO Tour Lif3 Spoiler We have gotten to the point where 00s emo lyricism/aesthetics have blended with hip-hop in 2017, and it's fantastic. 41. TR/ST Spoiler TR/ST has that kinda signature sound that's HIS so he can get away with giving you the same old with a tiny tweak cause well, who else gives us what he does? Nobody!
Tom Vercetti Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 xo bicep is pretty catch so if that's the direction he's going then i don't mind.
theblackestday Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 Who would've thought Ms. Perry would singlehandedly save pop music with Bone Apple Tea right after she ruined it with CTTR? Tonite is that bop. Love XO too.
Pink Matter Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 A great set! tonite, Selfish Love, and XO are my faves. Bon Appetit and Something to Remember Me By are nice too.
Eeveelution Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 Quote Is this Katy's darkest song? I think so! Yeah, it's an iconic bop. Selfish love is probably Jessie's best single this year.
Navyofbadgals Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 Selfish Love, Xo the BA description ffff a bop tho! we stan
TRF. Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 XO Tour Llif3 is incredible. so is Bicep, probably my one of my favorite TR/ST songs ever. I like Selfish Love, I wish I liked Jess's album more tho
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted January 2, 2018 Author ATRL Moderator Posted January 2, 2018 40. Tove Stryke - Say My Name Spoiler The twangy guitars give this minimalist song all the personality it needs and the explosive pre-chorus leading into a non-chorus is always something I like (given that it's not just an instrumental/breakdown type non chorus). 39. Susanne Sundfør - Reincarnation Spoiler This is sad I think it's about a breakup or a death and you see a glimmer of that person in someone else and get hopeful and caught up with thoughts in your head and ****, she made me like chamber folk though which is usually too boring for me so yay. 38. Charlotte Gainsbourg - Sylvia Says Spoiler Charlotte's dreampop disco album highlight is this funky number with a hot bassline (like all the other highlights) and a hypnotic repetitive chorus that's short, simple, and effective. 37. Halsey - Strangers Spoiler Halseys' best song so far is a synthpop bisexual fantasy breakup track that has an extremely long chorus that kinda tapers out on and on, but that's why I like it cause it represents a love that's gone on too long and you know is gonna end soon? I'm not saying that was intentional but it's how I read it. Lauren did a good job too! 36. Wolf Alice - Don't Delete the Kisses Spoiler The synths remind me of FFX menu music so I immediately loved it and the ranting verses matched with the shouty chorus perfectly contrast each other especially since its obsession vs doubt vs obsession vs love? A v romantic song.
ATRL Moderator feelslikeadream Posted January 2, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted January 2, 2018 SHE DOESN'T KISS ME ON THE MOUF ANYMORE
Green Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 Strangers is one of the few songs I like from Halsey
SLIME Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 Sylvia + Something Human League meets Cut Copy you are absolutely right U already know how I feel about XO
theblackestday Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 tbh Don't Delete the Kisses is one of my least faves on VOAL, but it's still great so I'm glad to see them here. Reincarnation is of course a masterpiece, like every other song from that album

XO Tour Llif3, Reincarnation and Sylvia Says
Pink Matter Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 Reincarnation, Sylvia Says, and Don't Delete the Kisses Sylvia Says is that bop
Tom Vercetti Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 I like every song in this set, even strangers. halsey's best single.
volition Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 There's seems a kind of disparity between your songs and albums list in terms of the personality i would expect behind them. Both are equally good and I'm loving the bangers in here but my fave song on this page is def Reincarnation. So beautiful and the particular parts with the guitar as it falls are some of the best moments of the whole album
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted January 3, 2018 Author ATRL Moderator Posted January 3, 2018 35. Hundred Waters - Wave to Anchor Spoiler Love the instrumental to this song the synths represent the wavey uncontrollable ocean and the vocals are the more stable portion or the "anchor" very great very great, very artistic. 34. SOPHIE - Ponyboy Spoiler SOPHIE does choreography and she sucks at it but she did the damn thing anyway. Love the industrial soul bubblegum combo, has any song sounded like this before?? 33. Alvvays - Lollipop (Ode to Jim) Spoiler The BEST BUBBLEGUM POP SONG OF THE YEAR. Really, it's 3 minutes of pure dreamy bliss. 32. Pixx - I Bow Down Spoiler I kinda love this nerdy vibe she's going for and as someone who experiences extreme anxiety I relate to being controlled by it in your daily life like this girl is too. 31. Rina Sawyama - 10-20-40 Spoiler This coulda been any Rina song honestly but I ended up with this one since it's spoken chorus gives me 90s vibes while the instrumental gives me 00s meets 10s vibes. I think this is her best attempt at the retro sound meets current artsy sounds.. Gimme more please
