It WAS going to be #3 but s/t was my #4 in 2014 and I think s/t is better so I wanted consistency and then also the two fish album covers next to each other was cute too so it ended up working out!

Maybe not new but his blend of the styles is pretty accessible and catchy while still being experimental if that makes sense.

Poppy is so bad now  Her EP was pretty good and I'm Poppy + Interwebs weren't listenable but I'm over ha

Rainbow was robbed  glad it made the list tho  Take Me Apart is so good

After Laughter was a huge disappointment for me  Number 1 Angel is full of bops, Pop 2 wishes

Drag New York  one of the few fillers on MASSEDUCTION, love the album other than 3 songs

melodrama is like... so beautiful. i genuinely don't think an album has punched me that much in terms of relatability before. i know that's a kinda egocentric way to judge music but, ugh. she is a POET.

 

surprised to see masseduction is this low tbh! though top four is nothing to scoff at. it's your aesthetic all over! but very deserving + i'm glad u see its value poor p4k. 

 

guppy was SO good. glad to see u stanned, like to think that was after my promeaux hihi. 

 

big fish theory was kinda everything i wanted from this year, a high position it's what she deserves.gif

Ok, I've seen this a lot before. Am I the only one who reads the line in CC the context that Funeral was so sad that it served as background music for a suicide attempt cause of its sadness? It never struck me as "oh our album saved people from suicide".

It sounds strangely specific too, as though it's a story the band heard of and felt uncomfortable about. But maybe I am just misunderstanding it cause I've seen so many people interpret the line that way.

I don't see how Masseduction isn't cohesive,  every one of her albums is frontloaded with the more hard hitting songs and then peters out into the mid-tempos and ballads. I think it's her tightest release to date, there isn't a song I wouldn't want which I can't say about her previous releases.

 

Surprised to see Susanne here since it's an all ballad album! I never really gave it a second chance tbh, will have to check it out again. 

 

Fever Ray is great, nice choice for #1

I know I was in the "it's a good abum but not THAT GOOD" camp for like a month or two but then i saw the light.  Like I said, FIONA.

I know I'm really branching out, including an album with more than 3 ballads in my top 10!  Are you proud?? 

And I don't mean uncohesive in a negative way, but like it definitely feels like collectively there are no signature sounds that permeate throughout the album where with other St. Vincent releases there are.  Not a bad thing, it complements the themes/concept of the album well, but it is what it is!

Arcade Fire is here because they released one of the best albums of the year!  I'm a The Knife stan through and through, I just never really liked Feve rRay's s/t and thought it was overrated so I was happy as hell that she delivered.

Pixx - The Age of Anxiety

 

This album IS SO UNDERRATED!!!  It's called the age of anxiety but really age of "paranoia" would fit more considering the songs.  It's a bouncy late 70s inspired Synth banger album that pretty much explores the idea of "self" and how it we act in this fast paced society.  SO original yeah.  It does it well, it's not a condemnation of modern society, more of one's self though and that makes it great cause I hate preachy ****.  Everything's Weird in America is not really about how America is horrible and awful (like people from the UK have any room to speak!) but that she feels uncertain and uncomfortable exploring new places.  This album sounds like it could have been recorded in 2012 tbh, but honestly there is no album that sounds remotely like it, so I guess time doesn't matter when it comes to unique music.

If Lorde continues like this she will be the next Fiona Apple.  THERE, I said it.  Her ability to take the mental whirlwinds that one feels during the highs and lows of relationships and describe them so effectively - well, there's a talent that's unmatched by any of her peers.  Too bad she takes forever to release albums.
