Tom Vercetti Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Quote she really doesn't have the global appeal that SZA or even Jhene Aiko (unfortunately) has. So it's a shame that even with an album SO mainstream appealing she will never have her big R&B radio hit moment even with an album as easily digestable as this one. Agreed on this. She deserves to be just as (if not more) accepted than them.

I'm not sure if it's about age as Kelela still looks around early 20s and her music doesn't strike me as overly gay either. The one thing I can say is her music is less generic.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 #15 Kendrick Lamar - DAMN. Ahhhhhhh, some of you thought this might have been higher! Well really, its a fantastic album but there were a lot of fantastic albums this year. What is there to say about DAMN. that hasn't already been said? Nothing!!! So I don't even wanna talk about it for a lengthy amount I'll just say I really enjoy the mixtape vibe of the whole project and enjoy that he can create radio friendly songs while staying true to his vision.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 #14 Zola Jesus - Okovi Zola Jesus' return to form is an examination of anxiety, depression, etc from both a personal perspective and an outsider. It has comforting, disorienting, and dramatic moments throughout the whole album! She learned a lot from her "pop sellout" (not rly tbh) album last year but manages to combine those aesthetics with her more earlier gothic songs. You are either a person who enjoys Soak/Siphon/etc or one who enjoys Exhumed/Veka/etc. I like the nice balance of those two and you'll find out which side I'm on later :o
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 #13 Alvvays - Antisocialites "Pop perfection" gets tossed around a lot these days but I would actually like to say that at least FOUR of these songs meet the standard on this album, and all the others come very close. There's something about their innocent youthful spirit that allows Alvvays to create infectious twee pop melodies that don't sound contrived or dated.
World Eater Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Calling Ti Amo Phoenix's best album is a bold statement, but then again, I'm a big Bankrupt! stan Kendrick, Zola and Kelela
theblackestday Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Wow at the 1-2-3-4 punch of this update I disagree about TMA being "easily disgetable" but I guess that's just your personal experience. Quote Altadena (a re-do of LMK if I'm being honest) Trying really hard to understand this
Lucas32 Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Quote Pop perfection" gets tossed around a lot these days but I would actually like to say that at least FOUR of these songs meet the standard on this album I completely agree with the number, I wonder if we also agree on the songs Spoiler Dreams tonite,Forget about life,In Undertow, Not my baby, right?
Tom Vercetti Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 I honestly didn't expect DAMN to be in your top 10 or near it. I found Antisocialites to be slightly frontloaded but still enjoyable.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 #12 Seiko Oomori - Kitixxxgaia Sorry you gotta find a way to download this album cause its not on spotify! This is a deranged re-appropriation of J-pop cliches. I'm not sure really how much of it is a product of love or hate but either way it gives me those manic early Kate Bush vibes but way more musically dense. If you want something that's more of an explict parody listen to IDOL SONG but Positive Stress and the second track are way more subtle in their approach.

theblackestday Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Just now, madonnas said: "nothing to be said or done - it's not me its everyone" "no one's trying to settle down, all you gotta do is lmk" same melody basically. Doesn't sound remotely similar to me but oh well. Both are bottom 5 on the album though, I'll give you that
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 #11 Kitty - Miami Garden Club WE FINALLY GOT A DEBUT ALBUM AND ITS ACTUALLY GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The beginning starts as dream pop masterpieces and the end ends as 80s trash masterpieces. My two faves
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 Any guesses on the top 10??? There are some albums that have gotten a LOT of praise some that have gotten a LOT of hate some that are irrelevant altogether.
