MP2K Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Ibeyi, Ash was pretty good. My first time listening to them. Interested in seeing what you thought of CTRL.
Wicked Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Well, CTRL is too high. The rest are good, but I haven't listened to Kesha or Spoon.
SLIME Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 ayyye soft sounds is my fav so far hella slept on from what i saw but glad to see so many here showing love and omg I think we have the exact opposite spoon take, imo they're always hella consistent but this was their most single'd album in a while but they're also the best band of all time so they have a lot of room to slide Interested in seeing what you thought of CTRL. Eeveelution Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Lots of albums I enjoyed, Ash, Rest, Rainbow, CTRL. . I agree Beth deserved a little more but at the same time I kinda forgot about it too nn.
theblackestday Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Visions of a Life Great update besides that. Still need to check out Ash and Spoon and I probably will now(?)
TheWayWeWere Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 oh, some really good entries didn't really expect anthing from Fake Sugar, but ends up being really really solid work Rainbow Rest is just something I always loved some of her music, but it's her best effort so far CTRL
artangels Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Wolf Alice, Spoon and SZA are too high imo but i enjoyed their albums they are bubbling under my list

I guess yeah same which is why it's not top 10. I don't know though if there's no hype at all its easier to forget!

ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 #20 Cupcakke - Queen Elizabitch Cupcakke has released so many albums in such a small timespan they almost felt like "mixtapes" more than albums, but NOT this one. It takes all the topics familiar to Cupcakke and gives it a budget. Like the difference is noticeable. CPR and Biggie Smalls have club-ready production that doesn't sound trend chasing yet sounds stylish and Scraps and Tarzan sound truly like dark intense hip hop songs. Her artistry has improved almost tenfold and there are little details in each song that give them the ability to be played over and over and over. PLUS well, she's already a lyrical genius so that's still there. Seriously an insane amount of quotables in one song alone on this album.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 #19 Red Velvet - Perfect Velvet Red Velvet have the best albums of all girl groups currently. This album is full of unique alt-pop that breaks pop norms and has influences that no other kpop groups touch. Attaboy and Look are the two best kpop non single of the year. LOOK IT UP!
prézli Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 This Queen Elizabitch title is so cringeworthy. (Just as Cupcakke herself)

ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 #18 Phoenix - Ti Amo Ti Amo is Phoeniex's BEST ALBUM. They have an amazing return to form after their last disappointing album by giving us a stroll through a fantasy version of Europe (one without a bunch of violence and nazis and hicks). The lead single J-Boy is so good that they even have to make a re-do of it in Goodbye Soleil. Each song has a refreshing hook and it sounds and nothing is too overly bombastic or desperate (rare for 40+ Y/O men).
bluth Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 (edited) oh wow u'r on a real roll - ash, computer, v, real high, rest, ctrl, hot thots... really good consistent set of albums so far - some slightly too low for me. hopefully u can keep this up! interdasted to see what made the top 10! didn't listen to the second rv album, is it better than rookie? ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 (edited) #17 Kelela - Take Me Apart Kelela exists in a weird space. She's no FKA twigs who denies that she's R&B at all, and yet she really doesn't have the global appeal that SZA or even Jhene Aiko (unfortunately) has. So it's a shame that even with an album SO mainstream appealing she will never have her big R&B radio hit moment even with an album as easily digestable as this one. It's a really solid debut though! It's definitely going for that Aaliyah red album vibe but Kelela has a voice of her own and I think that's how she has a sorta somber vibe to everything - THOUGH I still do question who Kelela is as a person, she has yet to really answer that but maybe she wants to leave it mysterious and semi-anonymous. Love that she's able to keep the album's momentum going for so long and spread the highlights all the way through the album. Even Blue Light and LMK the obvious highlights are not too dominating and there's moments near the end like Altadena (a re-do of LMK if I'm being honest) that I wait for impatiently. ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 #16 Paramore - After Laughter I always hated Paramore until their self titled. The emo wave of the mid 2000s was my least favorite trend of the decade and even as a tween I thought myself superior to that trend. Well I'm glad they changed their sound to a more pop 80s sound, and this is probably the best New Wave album of the year while still managing to stay true to their lyrical perspective (let me relish in my sadness please!! - theyre really on the nose with their interpretations of sadness tbh so it works with the quirky instrumentals).
Red Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 We both liked Wolf Alice's new album about the same, it looks like. Okay, time to talk about Paramore. As someone who has loved Paramore for a long time, this album didn't click with me..which is odd, because this album should be so up my alley that it might as well be screaming out to me, "RED, THIS IS THE ALBUM WE WERE ALWAYS MEANT TO MAKE!" And even beyond that, I really liked their self-titled album and thought that After Laughter was the natural progression for the band. So, really, I should be overjoyed with this album. Here's the thing, though: I found myself saying immediately after I listened to the album for the first time, "Oh, that was fine...when's the next album coming out?" I don't feel like they stuck the 80s pop landing as much as many feel they did, and there's a lot of rough spots. As a first try, it's fine, but I know they're capable of better, and I think that they will nail it on the next album, assuming they stick with this sound.
TheWayWeWere Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 I always just laughed on Cupcakke, but this album was cute tbh CPR, 33rd Kelela TAM needs some praise yeah, I wasn't in Paramore before self-titled too it's so great that their experiment with AL turnts to be soo good
