ColdKeane Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 American Dream The return of LCD was really great
Lazuli Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Why are there people dragging american dream here? Album is FLAWLESS
TheWayWeWere Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 I like some tracks from LCD album, didn't heard anyone else here tho
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 17, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 17, 2017 looking forward to the ATRelevantL artists
Achilles. Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 So I’ve checked a sample or two per album and I get the sense that I would like some of these albums, but none would become favorites of mine. Brockhampton have a song or two that I like, but I’m so —not a rap fan— that I don’t think I could listen to much more than that. In more exciting news, I absolutely LOVE Rina so I’m glad that she won your EP list.

I saw her supporting Perfume Genius and I literally wanted to die. She might have lipped too Nice to see Communication getting some love Have you heard her first album? It's definitely better lol.
volition Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Wait this Hundred Waters album is really good
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 #30 Ibeyi - Ash The first half of this album is political but not overbearingly pretentious or preachy! If you like your Empress Of a little more experimental/political and less synthpop then this album is for you I think the last half grows on me too but it'll still take a while.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 (edited) #29 Poppy - Poppy.Computer this album is soooooooooooo funny to me. She's like a post-PC music post-post-post-ironic pop to the point where it's almost nauseating. BUT at the end of the day we get lots of high adrenaline pop music that actually pulls from different subgenres (pop punk, synthpop, bubblegum pop, dream pop, etc) so musically she at least has good enough music to back the preposterous concept. The final track has Poppy praising pop music' ability to 'make the people come together' but musically its the least inventive song on the album. Wonder why she did that... Anyway I like this album in spite of her failed gimmick and annoying persona. The music is just up my alley and the kitschy lyrics really crack me up. Edited December 18, 2017 by madonnas

ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 #28 The Horrors - V The Horrors give us a sorta wall-of-sound album that somehow manages to be diverse yet cohesive. They pull from almost every single 80s alternative subgenre! Synthpop to post punk to new wave to dream pop etc etc. Lots of fun melodies here and I love that they start with the strongest and end with the strongest. The tracklisting is extremely strong with highlights being spread out with more chill songs (that still are good). I've never heard them before this year so I'm looking forward to getting into their other stuffs.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 #27 Beth Ditto - Fake Sugar This was the perfect time for Beth Ditto's long awaited solo album. It's makes me weep and cry that it kinda arrived with no fanfare and was instantly forgotten. Since many pop stars turned to guitar based pop, rock, and folk music (miley/gaga/kesha/etc) it was the perfect time for Beth to return to her roots! The lead single has an extremely infectious guitar melody backed up by Beth's commanding vocals but the rest of the albu mis a little more sassy and energetic except for the power ballad We Could Run. LISTEN TO THIS if you haven't.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 (edited) #26 Kesha - Rainbow The story behind this album itself is definitely enough to make any person with any morals at all want to root for it. Is it her best album? No, tbh probably her worst, but it's still good and the victorious moments are just SO GOOD I had to put it fairly high on my list. She gives us one therapeutic ballad but some of the songs manage to take a new sound and still have Kesha's personality shine through completely. So about half the album is amazing, the rest isn't. Meh, good enough for me. Edited December 18, 2017 by madonnas
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 #25 Nite Jewel - Real High Nite Jewel's last album was a little too smooth last year, but this one has a much bigger focus on Nite Jewel herself. She's improved her songwriting skills and managed to branch out to a more radio friendly R&B route which has given her personal approach to R&B sound a lot more unique than just obscured. In the Nite, 2 Good 2 Be True, The Answer, and Obsession really give me this sense of anxiety and paranoia that I enjoy.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 (edited) #24 Charlotte Gainsbourg - Rest This is such a great melodramatic dream pop synthpop combo. Charlotte manages to combine dark depressive themes with a sort of childlike nostalgia throughout the album that give her dramatic tricks a lighter tough so that it's not TOO draining. The funky songs are my personal favorites (Les Crocodiles/Sylvia Says) along with Deadly Valentine. Edited December 18, 2017 by madonnas
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 #23 Spoon - Hot Thoughts I think this might be Spoon's most consistent album in a decade! They refined their sound into a more sassy hard hitting sound and gave us another consistent album. Consistency is key for them, and one hot single/other cute album tracks seems to be their trend. Luckily they have a few album tracks that stand along (almost) with the hot single so this album is better.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 (edited) #22 Wolf Alice - Visions of a Life Ooh yes. I guess this group got a lot of publicity on ATRL for shading Shania Twain for no good reason lol. The album is a mix of so many alternative rock subgenres and also an exhibitions of familiar feelings explored. The themes could be trite but the whole album ends up sounding extremely timeless and passionate. Edited December 18, 2017 by madonnas
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 (edited) #21 SZA - CTRL Love her confessional stream-of-consciousness approach to singing. It makes this album feel like a collection of diary entries. Not the ones you really would normally publish either, but the ones you throw away in embarrassment. That's what makes this album so special is that we all feel these things but often are too afraid to admit it. Now SZA gives us a vehicle to embrace the truth in sometimes being a side chick.
