ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 16, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 16, 2017 I don't know these, but I think it would be interesting to check some of the artists out
jose168 Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 JapaneseBreakfast i reeeeally liked the album (hint its my #1)
Navyofbadgals Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 whew I'm just listening to Japanese Breakfast because of this, it's nice
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 16, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 16, 2017 #36 Brockhampton - Saturation II Sooo I haven't heard III yet and I hear its better but it missed my cutoff. This album is a nice collection of early 2000s dr dre type beats mixed with very current rapping styles. There's like 200 rappers on this so you get a lot of different perspectives and viewpoints so it feels more like one of those "various artists" type albums. I can't name a single bad song on this album, but i can name the songs that are the best quite easily. I think what makes this album pop is the solid rapped hooks, they kinda remind me of some Good Kid Maad City songs.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 16, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 16, 2017 #35 Lydia Ainsworth - Darling of the Afterglow Kate Bush Clone Clone 3.0 delivered a really interesting album with half of it pulling from her previous release and the other half pulling from so many different modern trends. A couple of the songs even sound top 40 material (well, inspired by top 40 material). It's fascinating trying to unravel her influences and she really took a lot of risks with this album that I really respect. It has a great tracklisting too making it easy to listen to from start to finish. Spinning, What Is It?, Ricochet, Wicked Game, and WLCM are my faves even though maybe most people like The Road and Afterglow the most.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 16, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 16, 2017 #34 Leikeli47 - Wash & Set This is another album that pulls from like a million different influences. It's a cluster**** and mish mash of styles but I really enjoy her dedication to artistry and such. Plus her flow is pretty versatile so she's able to adapt really well. Well you have more traditional new york sounding hip hop songs, you have your drag queen songs, you have your abstract hip hop numbers too. There's a lot of good stuff on here, check out Money, M I L K, and Ho.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 16, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 16, 2017 #33 LCD Soundsystem - American Dream LCD Soundsystem albums have always had those 2-3 confessional depressing songs along with the escapist songs. Well, now I guess they're old farts and all the songs are about aging and being sad. I think all the songs are good but all of them together make for their weakest album. STILL, it's a good album with lots of good stuff going on. Call the Police, Other Voices, and Tonite are my favorite.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 16, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 16, 2017 (edited) #32 Wednesday Campanella - SUPERMAN I hate myself for putting this so low! Every single song is a banger and also quirky and unique so it really has replay value, but I got really lazy and didn't listen to much so I can't really tout an album I don't have a huge relationship with as one of my ABSOLUTE FAVES. You know? Listen to it though guys! If you can stand music in another language. It's about 1/3 trendy enough to sound familiar but takes many turns in directions I had no idea were possible. Not their best but maybe their best for people who haven't listened to them before. Edited December 16, 2017 by madonnas
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 16, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 16, 2017 #31 Hundred Waters - Communicating Somewhere, Imogen Heap and pre-2010 Sia are seething wishing they came up with this album. It's whimsical and breathy and ethereal without being really pretentious or obnoxiously abstract.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 16, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 16, 2017 And that's it for today! NEXT UPDATE there are multiple ATRelevantL artists. Actually, I think more than half are and there are no nobodies anymore (well...jk).
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted December 16, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 16, 2017 omg leikeli47 making your list I really loved her album
Ewan Chaos Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Your picks for Lydia were my exact same favorites!! Well I like Afterglow too. The Road is overrated imo. Yeah the LCD record is good - and I agree not their best. Been seeing Brockhampton posted a lot... need to check him out!
Tom Vercetti Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Someone recommended me that Wednesday Campanella album and I really enjoyed it. Especially Aladdin. I think it's a general consensus that Brock 2 > Brock 1. Lydia didn't stick to me like I thought she would. I don't think American Dream is LCD's weakest album but it's certainly no Sound Of Silver.
Red Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 LCD record is okay, but it didn't wow me. "Call the Police" was the one song on the album that I kept coming back to. I also like some of the songs on SATURATION II, and, like you, I can easily point out the best songs, but the album as a whole never really piqued my interest.
Dom Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Lydia is a cute gurl, I’ll give u that madonnas gurl.
Dr. Shenanigans Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 I tried to like that LCD Soundsystem album but couldn't get into it after many listens just doesn't have the excitement of their other work and tbh, it's actually kind of hard for me to get through the entire thing. Love Call the Police tho
ATRL Moderator Unoriginal Posted December 16, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 16, 2017 I was going to listen to American Dream but it seemed long so I never bothered
theblackestday Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 American Dream I liked Communicating but never revisited it sadly.
bluth Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 okay! <3 happy to see saturation and superman here! i think i started listening to the leikeli47 (was she on an alunageorge song or smthn???) but got distracted lol. the lcd album was just a wall of sound for me nn.
World Eater Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 I HATED that Lydia record omg It was like a worse and even more tryhard version of a BANKS album. I saw her supporting Perfume Genius and I literally wanted to die. She might have lipped too Nice to see Communication getting some love
Vilppu Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Wednesday Campanella's album was great but I didn't come back to it as often as I'd like to either. LCD's was also good though I only started appreciating it when I separated it from their earlier material.
