A mostly on-trend synthpop album, The Valley would be predictably unnoteworthy if not for the epic love song “Blue Heaven Midnight Crush” and the stupidly good cover of “I Love You Always Forever.”

Flicker’s singles are nice, but I’m not invested enough to care much about the album and nothing on it seems particularly vital. Niall Horan seems to be the hardest working of the One Direction guys, though, so I hope things work out for him. (Go promote your ****ing album, Harry).

It goes without saying that Miley Cyrus’s attempt to course correct her career after years of controversial headline-baiting antics would involve stripped down productions and a general sense of nothingness. At least it works for a song or two before the boredom sets in.

She did what she always does, and she did it as well as she always does it.

Kehlani’s SweetSexySavage is a solid album, but it’s not really my style and so there are only a few tracks that I really use—including one of the year’s best deep cuts (“Undercover”).

I could write an elaborate review of Haim’s long-awaited sophomore album, but all that really needs to be said is that their cover of Shania Twain’s classic “That Don’t Impress Me Much” is better than anything offered here.

A joint album from country music’s reigning first couple (and two artists I’ve loved for my entire life), The Rest Of Our Life is easy listening adult contemporary made easy. Faith and Tim have a long history of tapping truly gifted songwriters for their projects, and they certainly called in everyone imaginable for this endeavor. I’m not even over-exaggerating. The album is bookended by songs co-written by Ed Sheeran and Meghan Trainor, and in between come nine new songs from the writers behind such a broad range of songs as “Humble & Kind” and “Jesus Take The Wheel” all the way to “Wrecking Ball” and “Bitch I’m Madonna.” Not kidding. Unfortunately, the longest list of hitmakers I’ve ever seen somehow produced neither hit songs nor anything truly remarkable at all, really. Add in that some songs force one vocalist or the other to sing in unflattering ranges, and that none of these songs are quite as good as any of the couple’s previous collaborations, and, well...

The last time my childhood fave Shania Twain released an album, I was 9 years old. A comeback more than half my life in the making, Shania Twain’s Now is a fairly solid album that revolves primarily around themes of picking yourself up after you fall. By far the most personal of her five albums, Now is pretty much exactly the right album for a middle aged divorcée to make. If only it had some of the massive choruses Shania’s music is famous for.

Jack Antonoff is somehow incredibly compelling as a pop producer, but not particularly interesting through his own musical endeavors. (This despite “I Wanna Get Better” being one of my favorite songs of the decade).

El Dorado was certainly the right title to give this album, a collection of songs that represent a veritable goldmine for the Columbian singer. Less of an album and more of a playlist of songs designed to capitalize on Shakira’s absolute domination on YouTube, El Dorado is nonetheless an enjoyable listening experience. ¿Qué?

Someone please give me the motivation to finish this crap. I made my best lists ever and I just don’t GAF. :jonny:
