Glassmouth Posted January 3, 2018 Author Posted January 3, 2018 BEST ALBUMS OF 2017 #14 The Flaming Lips Oczy Mlody Quote Oczy Mlody, the whoknowswhatnumber album from The Flaming Lips moves sweetly and in an almost lowkey way, from songs like The Castle and Sunrise (pretty much the exact same song Miley Cyrus released as 'Floyd Song' in her critically panned 'Dead Petz'), this record moves in a psychedelic/electronic way that reminds me of clouds and kaleidoscopes, but not like ''oh yah this is psychedelia blablabla'' as if it was basic, I truly believe this record is made greatly and the songs included in here are all enjoyable and a great step ahead for this group. Coyne sounds awesome, the writing is good too and the melodies are really dreamy and memorable. BEST TRACKS Sunrise, The Castle, Almost Home, We a Famly #13 Dirty Projectors Dirty Projectors Quote It was weird for me to get into this album and not because the album is too weird or something (I mean, the record is kinda quirky but that's about it), but because I've never been a Dirty Projectors fan, like, before this record none of their albums really 'got me', I guess, but with this one (sadly now a solo project, as it appears) this record kinda picks up every quirky piece I've heard from this band in the past and they managed to water it down making it more digestable without making it boring or too ''nice'', you know, some of this songs SNAP my wig in a rEAL way (for example Death Spiral), the vocals are good and every single track here feels like something that was meant to come after an evolution. BEST TRACKS Keep Your Name, Death Spiral, Little Bubble, Ascent Through Clouds #12 Kelela Take Me Apart Quote To be completely honest with myself, this album was not going to be included in the list because the first 3 listens I gave to Take Me Apart were underwhelming and I think it was because this album needed some time to really grow on me but oh damn it did, Kelela's melodies in Frontline (for example) are intoxicating mixed with that pale blue synths thingies going on in the background and the R&B percussions, bitch I bop, also we have other amazing songs on this thing (the ones that I can remember right now are Blue Light, Jupiter, LMK, Waitin). BEST TRACKS Frontline, Blue Light, LMK, Waitin #11 Zola Jesus Okovi Quote Her most consistent release since Conatus (2011), Zola Jesus returns to form with this epic album, filled with songs that sound ethereal and others that sound like hell and like an epic chase throughout a lone valley, Okovi paints a completely different world to me, not a lot of records are able to do that tbh and I was surprised also by how easy this record is to listen, this has the perfect amount of experimentation without compromising an enjoyable listen (experimental for her... I guess). BEST TRACKS Exhumed, Siphon, Doma, Half Life
Glassmouth Posted January 3, 2018 Author Posted January 3, 2018 I'll finish the list this week FINAL SCHEDULE: TODAY - BEST SONGS (#50 to #26) TOMORROW - BEST ALBUMS ( #10 to #6) FRIDAY 5 - BEST SONGS (#25 - #11) SATURDAY 6 - BEST ALBUMS (#5 - #4) / BEST SONGS (#10 - #6) SUNDAY 7 - BEST SONGS (TOP 5) / BEST ALBUMS (TOP 3)
World Eater Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Oczy Mlody's title still makes me pressed tbh Mess @ you snubbing their best song since Godbryonic, How?? Kelegend and Zola, we stan
Glassmouth Posted January 4, 2018 Author Posted January 4, 2018 (edited) #44 HOMESHAKE Khmlwugh Quote Khmlwugh (however this sh*t is pronounced) is a really sexy and lo-fi sounding funky tune, the way this song slowly lifts me up from the ground with that whisper-y falsettos the singer reaches make everything feel super cute and light and in balance. Cool track. #43 Arca Reverie Quote Arca's epic genius (ha) reaches a new peak in 'Reverie', the catastrophe generated for all of those screaming background noises alongside Alejandro's own dramatic vocal approach to this extreme odd experience of a song generate a feeling that's a bit like sadness and a bit like anger, I love this track. #42 Hercules & Love Affair Controller Quote Oh wow wow wow! This track is dancey, groovey and has epic and catchy choruses plus a neon disco-ish feeling that makes me want to dance and enjoy a track that talks about controllers and sexual desire and sh*t. #41 Tennis In the Morning I'll Be Better Quote This Tennis single takes a lot from 70s pop music and makes it so so pretty and in such a good way, the feminity in the song and the charm, wow. Amazing song. #40 GIRLI Hot Mess Quote This F*CK YOU song is great, the humor GIRLI goes around with in this track is refreshing to hear in the way this is being delivered, and it also makes me remember the 90s and Beck, this is an amazing song, really catchy and fun. #39 Gaelynn Lea Bound by a Thread Quote This unique singer's voice is angelic, the way Gaelynn talks about whatever she talks about in her really emotional lyrics is being held together by this equally beautiful instrumental, I wanna curl up into a ball and cry when I listen to this beautiful song. #38 The Preatures Yanada Quote Lovely 80s prom anthem kind of sound that could very well have been used in The Breakfast Club or something if it was released back then, this song is epic and I just love how soundtrack-ready it sounds. #37 Buscabulla Tártaro Quote Tártaro is sexy and dancy, the way this duo's vocalist moves sweetly in the way she does between those dense but very rich sounds that make her company in the track ugh, i love it. #36 Japanese Breakfast Diving Woman Quote woooooooh (wooooooh) #35 Todd Terje Maskindans Quote epica #34 Protomartyr Night-Blooming Cereus Quote ran out of inspiration to write these but this 1 is cool 2 Edited January 5, 2018 by Glassmouth

Playa Playa Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 Dirty Projectors was a very good listen but I didn't give myself enough time with it. Take Me Apart is definitely a grower I hope you find more things you like about it tbh. Reverie
Tom Vercetti Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 Glad TMA grew on ya. Reverie and Diving Woman are key tracks for me. Night Blooming
Glassmouth Posted January 6, 2018 Author Posted January 6, 2018 #33 Fleet Foxes Fool's Errand Quote There's something that feels like a catharsis about this song, I have yet to find what it is but whatever these dudes did to create that breakdown, oh ****ing wow, one of the best Fleet Foxes songs ever (imo). #32 Lorde Green Light Quote Lorde's comeback single was, of all things, refreshing, the way the verses snap in a different way (I would say... more expressive than PH in general) and how the chorus is epic as hell and sounds like a crying on the dancefloor type of anthem makes this an epic pop song. #31 Kesha Praying Quote We all know what happened with Kesha and we all feel for her and the way she came back with a song this hard-hitting and so well done woah, she truly puts everything that happened in the lyrics in the song. #30 Sufjan Stevens Visions of Gideon Quote Since the first moment I knew that Sufjan would be making the original songs for Call Me By Your Name I said to myself ''I'm going to cry'' and indeed I DID, Visions of Gideon, the second original song from the soundtrack finds Elio remembering everything that happened that beautiful summer in 1983, Gideon, that profetic figure used by Stevens in the lyrics of this magnificent song just push the whole ''I remember everything'' crap more into my heart. I actually am weeping writing this, I don't know why, this song is powerful, so so powerful #29 Animal Collective Kinda Bonkers Quote Kinda Bonkers is bonkers (ha!) and for extraodinary reasons if I may add, starting a song with ''life is so french toast to me'' is woah, a BOP, we find the AnCo guys with a really straightforward sound, like in the singles from their last album and woah it works pretty well, this song is catchy, is feel good-ish and this is amazing when you're high, we love a basic white boy stoner anthem. #28 Alvvays Dreams Tonite Quote I'm naming this song the 'sweetest love song' of 2017 and I'm not lying... it IS the sweetest love song of 2017. #27 St. Vincent Pills Quote Okay, at first this song was a bit too much to handle but lord, mary and jesus, Annie did it AGAIN, Pills is an odd ode to pills (shocking), pills to wake, pills to sleep, pills to walk, pills to think, pills to grow and pills for whatever you can think of, the guitar work and the snapping beat of this song paint a lot of abstract crazy images in my head and ugh, that outro.... she did THAT. ALL OF THAT. #26 Arcade Fire Everything Now Quote ABBA would be proud. Everything Now (the only good song in the album of the same name) is EPIC, is lovely is a song I wanna listen when I'm down (and I kind of do already), so yeah, it's pretty ****ing good. #25 Beach House Chariot Quote Hypnotic and beautiful, I don't think I have words to describe how GOOD and velvet-y this song sounds in my head, my ears feel blessed whenever this starts. #24 Day Wave Something Here Quote Day Wave's kind-of-indie-rock is one that you want to play on a roadtrip, when you're down or feeling nostalgic, Something Here sounds like the perfect closer to a coming-of-age film that is yet to be made, if the lyrics are vague that just adds to the feeling, I don't know how to explain it, but this song makes me happy in a lot of ways. #23 Zola Jesus Exhumed Quote Okay bitch, this BOP snaps my ***** and drags it to hell, this is AMAZINGGGGGGG. #22 Cherry Glazerr Nuclear Bomb Quote Uuuuuuuuh, this is ****ing epic? #21 Sampha Plastic 100C Quote I promised myself since the moment I heard this song that I would add it to the list, this song is beautiful and hypnotic and bitch, those vocals, gooooosh, one of the most unique songs in Process. #20 Frank Ocean Chanel Quote I jumped in the Frank Ocean bandwagon too late but I enjoy his stuff A LOT NOW, this type of cuts are really chill but effective, the vocals ugggughughgug, we love her. #19 Foxygen Follow the Leader Quote A ****ING BOP #18 Carly Rae Jepsen Cut to the Feeling Quote Good pop music makes me happy and this makes me really ****ing happy, Carly did that (yet again). #17 Oneohtrix Point Never The Pure and the Damned Quote This song is really heavy and it's really sad, I was really surprised when I heard this, and I have to admit this was a last minute addition to the list, since I saw the film like..... 4 days ago? But I KNEW I had to add this in such a high position, is THAT GOOD. #16 Chromatics Shadow Quote This is the kind of song I absolutely adore... night-ish, saddish, dream-ish and p*ssy-snapping.
Tom Vercetti Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Chromatics in 2018. what a vision. Didn't pay much attention to animal collective in 2017 but Kinda Bonkers is kinda cool. Plastic + Chanel + OPN
Lazuli Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Praying Visions of Gideon >>> Mystery of Love Pills and Everything Now are BOPS Chariot, CTTF
Playa Playa Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Visions of Gideon, ahh! It is a powerful song. Chanel & Dreams Tonite & Shadow We need a new Chromatics album NOW
Uncatena Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 Okovi and TMA, taste as expected Kinda Bonkers is such a fun song, Green Light, Pills, Plastic i promised myself to not listen to the CMBYN music, but I caved and listened to one and it was soooo gorgeous
Glassmouth Posted January 8, 2018 Author Posted January 8, 2018 I swear to god I will end this list tonight I've been kinda busy lately
