Not the best song on the album :cm:

What was your favorite on Future Politics?

I just really connected with the lyrics and music video. I remember watching a 90's documentary about social anxiety, and one man saying he loves his spouse, who has social anxiety and confidence issues, more than she loves herself.

The music video is based on a real-life story

Quote

For those wondering what the video is about, it is inspired by the American astronaut Lisa Nowak's scandal, when she attempted to kidnap and beat the woman she thought was the lover of the man she was in love with. Katie Stelmanis, portraying Nowak, buys the things Nowak actually bought before commiting her crime. Katie told in an interview that she wanted to represent mental illness in our society, how we perceive it, but also wanted to pay tribute to Nowak, who was, and still is, a brillant woman.

I also love Gaia, the song about Earth :smitten:

Lana del Rey - Coachella - Woodstock In My Mind

239891495693836.jpg?itok=zgEAOJju

I'd trade it all for a stairway to heaven

I'd take my time for the climb up to the top of it

I'd trade the fame and the fortune and the legend

I'd give it all away if you give me just one day to ask him one question

Zola Jesus - Remains

a0909856373_16.jpg

This song fills me in with so many feelings, and it sounds so "spacious" like the sound of the universe

Is this all there is
Or am I blind to it?
I tried to open up
I'm, I'm nothing

What remains of us?

Lorde - Hard Feelings / Loveless

Lorde_-_Melodrama.png

The lyrics, the metallic industrial sounds, the transition into Loveless, the beat AHHH!

I light all the candles
Got flowers for all my rooms
I care for myself the way I used to care about you
These days, we kiss and we keep busy
The waves come after midnight
I call from underwater
Why even try to get right?
When you've outgrown a lover
The whole world knows but you
It's time to let go of this endless summer afternoon

Zola Jesus - Soak

a0909856373_16.jpg

I immediately loved the song, but when I heard the story behind it, it hit me so hard

Quote

I started reading about a lot of serial killers, and it insidiously made its way into me and my music. It fed my anxiety—pretty masochistically. Like, “Do you have extreme anxiety? How about you read about serial killers nonstop?”

But in reading these stories, I started thinking a lot about the victim and what it must feel like—those moments when you know you’re not going to come out of a situation alive, and that someone has just blindly decided to take your life without even having a valid reason.

In the verses, it goes, “Born into debt, line and no request/I pay what I can, but the rest I have no chance/So I pay nothing instead.” It’s like: I have an opportunity to do something, but I can’t fulfill it, so I might as well do nothing. And there’s that biting resentment and bitterness that I’m sure someone would be going through. I was feeling those same things, but towards my life—trying to find peace before I realize there’s nothing left. That’s been the turning point in my life: really trying to train myself to go, “I don’t need to have a purpose. Nothing needs to matter.” That’s what I’m working through.

Soak in decay, spoil into loam
Give what I take but it never feels enough
So, I give nothing instead
I give nothing instead
Take me to the water
I am not free but I am sorry, I am stone
You should know I would never let you down

MUNA - I Know A Place

MUNA-I-Know-A-Place-1480694885-compressed-1480695801.jpg

Finally a feel-good song! It kept my mood up this year, along with Miley's Malibu :alexz3:

I know a place (ooh)
I know a place we can go (yeah)
Where everyone gonna lay down their weapon
Lay down their weapon
Just give me trust and watch what'll happen

Fever Ray - Mustn't Hurry

FeverRay_Plunge_albumart.jpg

My personal top 10 opens with this gem. The more I listen to this song, the more I appreciate it (like the album)

Interesting that the video (in a loop) has a double audio layering glitch, which is everything tbh

Babies pushing boundaries
Drove out in the morning
Where shame is going to burn
Shame is going to die

Lorde - Supercut

Lorde_-_Melodrama.png

The second pre-chorus with stops "In The Car The Radio Up" makes me scream every time! Many times, this summer I drove my car on an empty highway at night with open windows blasting the song and throwing my hands up in the air like I don't care

In your car, the radio up
In your car, the radio up
We keep trying to talk about us
I'm someone you maybe might love
I'll be your quiet afternoon crush
Be your violent overnight rush
Make you crazy over my touch
But it's just a supercut of us

I listened to the album today again, and I'm living for A Part Of Us

Too bad the album was released kind of late this year. Lots of songs could have made the list. IDK About You is a BOP

Yas, one of my faves :clap3:

Mama's Hand & Falling are the only ones I don't really care for. Other highlights are Red Trails & An Itch imo. IDK About You is cute but she sings it in weird, kinda annoying way, I'm guessing it's intentional but i'm not really here for it.

Lana del Rey - Groupie Love (feat. A$AP Rocky)

Lana_Del_Rey_-_Lust_for_Life.png

I was really unsure about the song at first, but then it hit me, and it felt like a kiss! The chorus is heavenly, the A$AP Rocky's part is perfect for the song and its meaning. I always imagine myself being a groupie while listening to the song lol

This is my life, you by my side
Key lime and perfume and festivals
Taking our dreams, turning them to things
It's like magic, babe, isn't life wonderful?

TR/ST - Bicep

Ahhh it feels like holy 2012 again. Major Crystal Castles vibes, very excited for his album coming out next year! YAS at the bolded lyrics :keir:

And I am mercy, I am muscle
Darlin', won't you put my hand in me?
I am naked, I am ravaged
Take a hold and, baby, put the good in me

Hayley Kiyoko - Feelings

This is just pop perfection. Such a well done song and video :clap3:

I over-communicate and feel too much
I just complicate it when I say too much
I laugh about it, dream about that casual touch
Sex, fire, sick and tired of acting all tough
I'm hooked on all these feelings

Fabulous video:
