Genre: Folktronica / Avant-Folk

Subtly catchy and keeps you wanting more. Excellent song. The video is a must-watch of 2017.

Spoiler

29. ionnalee - SAMARITAN

715837b16e096fcc32b4b69e566fb1ad.1000x1000x1.jpg

Genre: Synthpop / Art Pop

My favorite single from this era. It was a well-rounded and well-executed song and video.

Spoiler

28. Sufjan Stevens - Wallowa Lake Monster

805c27faa76ed7cafebc22e0b107de00.471x478x1.png

Genre: Ambient Pop / Chamber Folk

One of the most emotional songs of 2017. The wobbly piano is a highlight. I had more time to sit with this song so it's higher than Tonya but they're both very strong songs.

Spoiler

27. Kendrick Lamar - ELEMENT.

d69476d2d413d9e0ff9ab1aaa12dc220.1000x1000x1.jpg

Genre: Hip Hop / Rap

I love this song because it doesn't take itself too seriously. The chorus is one of the best of 2017. :katie2:

Spoiler

26. Benjamin Clementine - Phantom of Aleppoville

50ff68012ca661f7515db8645af0ab2a.1000x1000x1.jpg

Genre: Progressive Pop / Chamber Pop

This song left me speechless the first time I heard it. Haunting and devastating yet uplifting through its storytelling. One of the best, if not thee best, composed piece of 2017 with a must-watch video.

Spoiler

25. 中田ヤスタカ - Crazy Crazy ft. Charli XCX, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu

cb1be0ed19af495b38a4920046d27aa6.500x500x1.jpg

Genre: Electropop

A bop from start to finish. Intricate instrumental composition.

Spoiler

24. Xiu Xiu - Jenny GoGo

4b7d8cd8.jpg

Genre: Noise Pop / Experimental Rock

The most quirky track from their album Forget. The pre-chorus and chorus synths are amazing.

Spoiler

23. Gorillaz - Ascension ft. Vince Staples

796554d6df23ceeac5bb14b12bd57ac8.1000x1000x1.jpg

Genre:  Experimental Hip Hop / Juke

My favorite single from the Humanz era. The track is made for Vince and that's why it works. :jamming:

Spoiler

22. Frank Ocean - Lens

ff5edf17696b1f6b064b98f9d147b6e4.1000x1000x1.jpg

Genre: Alternative R&B

Love the autotune. Love the instrumentals. Love the emotional lyrics and melodies. I guess you can say this is my guilty pleasure of 2017. :katie2:

Spoiler

21. Dirty Projectors - Cool Your Heart ft. DAWN

766bf5fb066b25c6fc54f02c1af1e49c.1000x1000x1.jpg

Genre: Glitch Pop

The song is very different from rest of the album, but it stands out. DAWN's vocal is a highlight along with the glitchy instrumentals.

Spoiler

20. Arca - Reverie

938d1fcb0085c4ff6f6d5bcc54eff4d2.1000x1000x1.jpg

Favorite single from this era. His vocals and instrumentation really shine through.

Love the Mariah-esque chorus. :alexz:

Spoiler

18. Migos - T-Shirt

My fav single from this era. Takeoff's flow, reverb beat, and the chorus are everything. :katie2:
