Zay Posted December 24, 2017 Author Posted December 24, 2017 30. Juana Molina - In the Lassa Genre: Folktronica / Avant-Folk Subtly catchy and keeps you wanting more. Excellent song. The video is a must-watch of 2017. Spoiler 29. ionnalee - SAMARITAN Genre: Synthpop / Art Pop My favorite single from this era. It was a well-rounded and well-executed song and video. Spoiler 28. Sufjan Stevens - Wallowa Lake Monster Genre: Ambient Pop / Chamber Folk One of the most emotional songs of 2017. The wobbly piano is a highlight. I had more time to sit with this song so it's higher than Tonya but they're both very strong songs. Spoiler 27. Kendrick Lamar - ELEMENT. Genre: Hip Hop / Rap I love this song because it doesn't take itself too seriously. The chorus is one of the best of 2017. Spoiler 26. Benjamin Clementine - Phantom of Aleppoville Genre: Progressive Pop / Chamber Pop This song left me speechless the first time I heard it. Haunting and devastating yet uplifting through its storytelling. One of the best, if not thee best, composed piece of 2017 with a must-watch video. Spoiler 25. 中田ヤスタカ - Crazy Crazy ft. Dirty Projectors - Cool Your Heart ft. DAWN Genre: Glitch Pop The song is very different from rest of the album, but it stands out. DAWN's vocal is a highlight along with the glitchy instrumentals. Spoiler 20. Arca - Reverie Genre: Glitch Pop Favorite single from this era. His vocals and instrumentation really shine through. Spoiler 19. Rina Sawayama - Cyber Stockholm Syndrome Genre: Alternative R&B / Electropop Love the Mariah-esque chorus. Spoiler 18. Migos - T-Shirt Genre: Trap / Hip Hop My fav single from this era. DJ Khaled - Shining ft. Beyoncé, Jay Z Genre: Pop Rap Love this song. Recruiting Beyoncé and Jay Z for a feel-good bop turned out to be one of the best ideas of 2017. Spoiler

Zay Posted December 25, 2017 Author Posted December 25, 2017 15. Fever Ray - To the Moon and Back Genre: Synthpop / Electropop Björk went off to this. It also has the lyrics of the year. Spoiler 14. Calvin Harris - Slide ft. Frank Ocean, Migos Genre: Nu-Disco / Dance-Pop This song sounded nostalgic the minute I first heard it. The high-pitched vocals. The emotional chorus. Nice flow from Offset. Excellent track. Spoiler 13. Cardi B - Bodak Yellow Genre: Trap / Hip Hop This song didn't floor me like it did to a lot of people. But I really appreciate it for what it is and it definitely got better in time. A defining song of 2017. Spoiler 12. St. Vincent - Pills Genre: Progressive Pop This is imo the strongest song from ASSEDUCATION. The guitar break and the outro are highlights. A bop Spoiler 11. BROCKHAMPTON - GOLD Genre: Rap / Hardcore Hip Hop This is my absolute favorite single they have ever released. From the M.I.A-inspired chorus to the enchanting zurna section. This song to me solidified them as the best boyband ever. Spoiler 10. Björk - Arisen My Senses ft. Arca Genre: Glitch Pop / Art Pop Her strongest single from this era. An instant love. Spoiler 9. One of the few bops of 2017 that hasn't gotten old yet. Spoiler 8. Azealia Banks - Chi Chi Genre: Hardcore Hip Hop Her best song this year by miles. The immaculate flow, the booming instrumentals, and her hardcore attitude make this song one of the best of 2017. Spoiler 7. Another defining song of 2017 for me. Spoiler 6. SZA - The Weekend Genre: Alternative R&B Whew. This song did THAT! From the prolonged intro, her sensual voice texture, to the "idgaf bc i'm playing you" attitude make this track stand out as one of the best tracks SZA has ever released. If we ignore the video, this track is flawless. Spoiler 5. Kendrick Lamar - DNA. Genre: Hardcore Hip Hop / Conscious Hip Hop He went off to the Sirius Star System with this one. The hardest song on DAMN. An excellent single choice of this time. Spoiler 4. Frank Ocean - Chanel Genre: "Space Reggae" A groundbreaking surprise "come-back" for Frank. Spoiler 3. Kelela - Frontline Genre: Defying (Trap R&B) What makes this song amazing is that it's long but it still keeps you wanting more. I didn't like it as much at first but it grew on me like yeast infection, in a good way. The Ambient to Trap transitions are fantastic. The vocal effects are ethereal. I'm in love. (No video for Frontline is available so please check out LMK below) Spoiler 2. Moses Sumney - Doomed Genre: Defying (Ambient Pop / Folk) This is the track that made me fall in love with Moses. It's a slow-burner. But once it hit, I never looked back. A masterpiece. Spoiler 1. Perfume Genius - Slip Away Genre: Art Pop There is so much happening in this song. Underneath all the heavenly grandeur happiness and hope, there is an uneasy pain oozing out of the lyrics and the story he's telling. An instant classic. Spoiler
