Tom Vercetti Posted December 21, 2017 Author Posted December 21, 2017 80. Mall Grab - B.F.O.D.A.A.S (Deep House) Spoiler Bag full of dank and a strap tucked in the stash just in case I gotta snap 79. Fyfe ft Kimbra - Belong (Indie Pop) Spoiler A sweet collab between Fyfe and Kimbra. Half the song is shared among each other while showing off their harmonies. The instrumental has that pleasant summer sound that lightens up the song even more. 78. The Dear Hunter - The Right Wrong (Prog/Alt Rock) Spoiler My first encounter with the Dear Hunter band was last year when their Act V album released and since then i've came to enjoy Casey's output. The Right Wrong is just a small offering and continuation of it . The middle section > 77. Priests - Jj (Post Punk) Spoiler Priests sells those aggressive and raw female vocals that best suits the punk sound quite well. Jj is one of those top examples. For fans of Riot Grrrl bands like Sleater Kinney, they have plenty of appeal. 76. Pond - Paint Me Silver (Psych Pop) Spoiler The best Tame Impala song this year eh (besides colder than ice). The Todd Rundgren sample usage in the beginning is cool and the song transcends into a joy-like field. 75. Goldfrapp - Systemagic (Electropop) Spoiler An upbeat and slightly robotic in nature tune that has those crispy synths which ear pleasing for me. The way this preludes Tigerman (another highlight) is a bonus. 74. Arca - Reverie (Electronic/Art Pop) Spoiler I'm alright with his singing and eerie sense. It fits the uncanny synths and frantic production that sets a daunting experience. 73. Zola Jesus - Soak (Art Pop) Spoiler I haven't been exposed to Zola's music prior to this year and Soak was the first I heard so I became attached. The subject matter involves those last moments before involuntarily death and reflecting upon past moments. It ventures on the dark side and I also love the trip hop feeling it has.
Tom Vercetti Posted December 21, 2017 Author Posted December 21, 2017 72. Fever Ray - Mustn't Hurry (Electropop) Spoiler Her aesthetic and imagery is very intriguing. Mustn't Hurry reminded me of material from her self titled. I'm fond of the ominous aura that surrounds Mustn't Hurry. 71. Godflesh - Parasite (Industrial Metal) Spoiler Another iconic band i've been into this year are Godflesh, and Justin Broadrick's quality refused to deteriorate over the decades he's been involved in with different music groups such as Jesu, Napalm Death and JK Flesh (post rock, grindcore, industrial). Parasite is one of the more catchier offerings from their latest album, Post Self, while remaining crunchy in production and vocal wise. 70. Homeshake - Every Single Thing (Lo-Fi/Hypnagogic Pop) Spoiler The bass, the high pitched notes, the vibe 69. Thundercat ft Kendrick Lamar - Walk On By (Psychedelic Soul) Spoiler I feel the minimalist production on Walk On By suits the "laid back and relaxed" aesthetic more and when Kenny delivers a well executed guest verse on top of that then it's hard for me to deny. 68. Offset & Metro Boomin - Ric Flair Drip (Hip Hop) Spoiler (I apologize for whichever 21 Savage stans reads this but) I would've enjoyed Without Warning much more if it was only Offset with Metro Production. Tracks like Ric Flair is an obvious keeper. I love how dark/hazy the production is, while remaining uptempo and how Offset's verses flow right through it. I don't want to overuse the term "banger" but it is what it is. 67. Caligula's Horse - Songs For No One (Progressive Metal) Spoiler Caligula's Horse is an underappreciated Australian prog metal group that offers both clean and appealing vocals & ear catching rhythm. Songs Of No One is the centerpiece of those elements, and contains a massive chorus to boot. 66. Melody's Echo Chamber - Cross My Heart (Neo-psychedelia) Spoiler I hope Melody is recovering well. I would've liked an album from her this year but that wasn't possible due to circumstances. Cross proves that she doesn't need Kevin Parker production to achieve good songs either. Cross My Heart contains different elements (flute, beatbox, etc) to keep me interested throughout its length.
theblackestday Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 (edited) JJ, Reverie and Soak (my least fave on Okovi but still excellent) >>> edit: Mustn't Hurry Agree it's the closest thing to her self-titled Edited December 21, 2017 by theblackestday

ATRL Moderator Unoriginal Posted December 21, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 21, 2017 Systemagic is great but I'm kinda hoping Tigerman is higher because you mentioned it
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 21, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 21, 2017 I've listened to Reverie yesterday. It's interesting

Wicked Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Melody & Offset, yes. I like Bank Account but I couldn't imagine stanning 21 Savage.
August Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Oh wow, a lot to dissect. Definitely going to keep up with the rest of this list! There's a lot I haven't heard that seems worth checking out (the Kimbra feature, and more from Pond because this song is really good). I do love the inclusions of the songs I do know, mainly "Jj", "Mustn't Hurry", "Systemagic" (although I slightly enjoy "Tigerman") more, and of course "Ric Flair Drip".
World Eater Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 I decided to leave out Jj but only because it came out in October last year nn; Still a great pick Reverie, Soak, Mustn't Hurry, Walk On By, Ric Flair Drip and Cross My Heart though

Pink Matter Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Notha great set! Fyfe, Priests, Goldfrapp, Zola, Homeshake, and Thundercat
Lucas32 Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Ugh, Reverie is perfect. His best track so far imo. Also love the Priests,Thudnercat and Zola picks.
Vxspertine Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Paint Me Silver was V cute, the video too Reverie is probably Arca's best song Soak and Mustn't Hurry Walk On By was good but I felt like it was a little boring Liking the rest I (obviously) don't know everything but the ones I do are all great
volition Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 I’d write a bigger response cuz I Love most of these tracks but lemme just say that this spotify playlist gonna be popping
ECNEICSNOC Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 (edited) Thundercat And I love that Kendrick keeps the same energy on his ("urban") collabs. Havent checked out the Offset/Metro/21 joint but I'm kinda over hip hop collab albums, the Future/Thug one left me mostly cold. Edited December 22, 2017 by ECNEICSNOC
