Tom Vercetti Posted December 26, 2017 Author Posted December 26, 2017 35. Clarence Clarity - Naysayer Godslayer (Glitch Pop) Spoiler Although Clarence seemed to have some small promo with producing Rina's acclaimed EP, his own material still that charm. Naysayer is very fun and the 80s style bubbly production is heat. I'm hope Leave Earth will be his breakout as he's quite an underrated producer. 34. JMSN - Slowly (R&B) Spoiler Jameson is always up to something and as a stan I have to keep up. He's been releasing almost nonstop (with the exception of 2015) and everytime he does there's that golden song he has to scratch that jazzy and laid back itch. 33. Björk - Loss(s) (Art Pop/Flute) Spoiler Team Loss. Move aside Arca, Rabit is the real MVP. The beats brings back a Homogenic aura that a nostalgia craves for. The outro is extra but I like it. 32. Future - Mask Off (Trap Rap) Spoiler Crazy how I thought Future fell off completely only for him to gain two #1 albums and his biggest hit to date in 2017. Mask Off is another piece of evidence as to why Metro Boomin is a major winner this year. Perfect length, memorable hook, unique production, the tools are all there. 31. Smino - Netflix & Dusse (Alt R&B) Spoiler That hook catches the fish so effortless. Netflix is what it sounds like. Pizza, Weed and an advance towards the home base. Slight Chance The Rapper vibes here. 30. Charli XCX ft Abra - Drugs (Alt Pop) Spoiler Drugs contains my favorite chorus from her this year (excluding Pop 2's femmebot since this was here before that album and i'm not changing anything). A song simply about drugs & its connection to love being this alluring is impressive. Abra is a perfect fit for this too, no shade. The last 30 seconds is a fitting conclusion. 29. Lil Uzi Vert - XO Tour Llif3 (Emo/Trap Rap) Spoiler Based on what i've witnessed, XO is cemented as Uzi's classic. It has reached out to the masses (a legit hit) and connected with them, We all have our troubles in life and ways on dealing with them and with Uzi & his girl, the topics range from popping Xannys (substance abuse) to the thought of Suicide. Although this song is upbeat and catchy in a production sense, the track is still melancholic in nature. A brilliant mix I might say. 28. St. Vincent - Los Ageless (Synthpop) Spoiler I was underwhelmed with New York, ngl. I expected something with more grit as a starter after her guitar emphasized self titled. With Los Ageless, impacting the scenes and confusing some audience with its name, Annie brought it back and delivered a synthy statement on the views of L.A and its affiliation on young culture. As she examines the artificial characteristics of the restless city, the way in the outro when she referenced "I try to tell u I love it comes out all sick" connects back to what she was previously saying. It may seem she's demeaning it, but really she cares.
Tom Vercetti Posted December 26, 2017 Author Posted December 26, 2017 27. Playboi Carti - Magnolia (Trap rap) Spoiler Yo Pi'erre, you wanna come out here? The adlib + flow along with being carried by production and quotables truly worked out in his favor. "Mumble" rap done right and reaches heights of the current climate in the hip hop scene. Ultimately it's a really fun song to play in the whip. 26. Fleet Foxes - Third of May / Ōdaigahara (Progressive Folk) Spoiler Dense, adventurous, and packs a three way delivery of sprawling folk, orchestral breakdown, and the concluding instrumental. The track is as long as it is so that these elements can all properly fit and with the way the Fleet crew achieved it, there's never a dull moment. 25. Elder - Sanctuary (Stoner Rock/Doom Metal) Spoiler An Opener. It has one of the most catchy riffs of the year along with having layers of prog rock and krautock touches. At 11 minutes, Elder doesn't fail to keep the momentum going even at its slight moments of rest as it simply builds up again from them. 24. Jamiroquai - Cloud 9 (Nu Disco/Synth Funk) Spoiler Jamiroquai was one of my early favorite bands and I loved everything they did pre-dynamite. Over the years they transitioned from Acid Jazz and to a more disco and dance oriented style. Cloud 9 is smooth as butter still, despite jay kay's age, and overtime it became one of my favorite songs from them this decade.. 23. Tyler, The Creator ft Rex Orange County & Anna Of The North - Boredom (Hip Hop/R&B) Spoiler Boredom has a significant message and touches upon the moment of age where responsibilities and adulthood truly kicks in and when we may not have time to just hang out with friends and do as much fun activities as we used to. Rex and Anna deserves their credit for singing the moody chorus since Tyler specifically asked them for help. 22. Frank Ocean - Chanel (Alt R&B) Spoiler Chanel could've been on Blonde and I wouldn't have any issue. Frank got a little rap game in him too, which comfortably fits in this song. Chanel is a continued commentary on his bisexuality, with the first couple of verses describing both feminine and masculine traits of his lover and it followed by "seeing both sides like chanel". 21. Perfume Genius - Slip Away (Art Pop) Spoiler I think the video helped me appreciate this song more. lt goes so well with the dynamics of Slip Away and there's a burst of energy that comes from each instrumental breakdown. It touches on escaping with your lover in an zone where that relationship may be seen as taboo or criminal and defying those voices.

Eeveelution Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 Quote excluding Pop 2's femmebot Stan for talent. Drugs is a cute girl too. Boredom is one of my favs on Flower Boy. XO and Slip Away are good. Losss.. well I'll say i'm less of an OLH than I used to be.
Vilppu Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 Except for Loss and JMSN these are all really good, glad you stan for the gay anthem Femmebot too.
Mark Rih Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 Mask Off and XO I agrih with everything u said about the second one especially.
Wicked Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 Real Death is my favorite of the HMs. I didn't get around to Brand New's album, but it has to wait now for obvious reasons. Mask Off, Drugs XO Tour Lif3 (still don't like Uzi tho), Fleet Foxes, Magnolia, Chanel & Slip Away are my faves. I didn't know Jamiroquai released, I'll have to get around to that.

Ewan Chaos Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 YES at Slowly. I think Drinkin' has potential to be the immediate choice as the single etc etc, but Slowly is that jazzy jam that really works for JMSN's voice & lyrics. Excellent Charlie & Annie picks too. YES at the Jamiroquai stanning - Cloud 9 is a fantastic track.
clue Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 Drugs my favorite Charli song of all time Magnolia Losss XO TOUR Llif3 Mask Off
