Vilppu Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Quote 2012: Frank Ocean - Pyramids 2015: Neon Indian - Slumlord 2016: David Bowie - Lazarus A trinity. Gold, ISDY, Dum Surfer and Blue Light are all such amazing songs and I even liked Thinking of a Place despite not feeling their album at all, the description is really nice too. A fantastic list overall obviously
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 29, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 29, 2017 let me try to play this top 10
jose168 Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 oh wow @ never catch me being your respective #1 that year. I loved it but i feel like id never listen to it anymore. Especially since the album surrounding it was lackluster compared to flylos previous works
Ewan Chaos Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 wow I remember Slumlord being your top pick in 2015 and was SHOOK at the taste; it's still my fave of your soty's so far.
Bloomers Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 Today I learned that Miguel released a new album. I'm really looking forward to listening I'm glad you had Banana Clip as your number 16. It's pretty great and I don't think I would have learned about his album otherwise. LCD Soundsystem, Blanck Mass, Vince Staoles, and Japanese Breakfast are my favorites from the 20-11 set, although I think I prefer Crabs in a Bucket to Big Fish. From the 10-01 set this gem King Krule sounds like a talented caveman made me crack up like a Fleet Foxes album I like all the hip-hop choices in the top 10 also and I'm also really excited to see K.R.I.T.! I've been a fan for awhile and it's great to see some love for him (and I've been really out of the loop, its great to know he also released this year! I was getting worried that he might be over). To be honest I've never really given the War on Drugs the time of day, but I think I might need to change that, I'm listening to Thinking of a Place right now and grooving along PS. Thanks for that playlist. I'll make my way through it.

Tom Vercetti Posted December 30, 2017 Author Posted December 30, 2017 Gonna reply in a moment, but I figured I might as well post my favorite album covers before the first album update later today. Just some that Intrigued me . Spoiler Tchornobog - Tchornobog Future x Thugger - Super Slimey 21 Savage x Offset - Without Warning Queens Of The Stone Age - Villains Kairon, IRSE! - Ruination Mirror Reaper - Bell Witch Various Artists - Mono No Aware Blanck Mass - World Eater Sheer Mag - Need To Feel Your Love Amenra - Mass VI Loss - Horizonless Ex Deo - The Immortal Wars Afghan Whigs - In Spades Lorde - Melodrama Laurel Halo - Dust Freddie Gibbs - You Only Live 2wice Ulver - The Assassination of Julius Caesar Kelela - Take Me Apart Vampire - With Primeval Force Kassad - Faces Turn Away
ATRL Moderator Unoriginal Posted December 30, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 30, 2017 these are all pretty nice but usually unless the album cover is either horrendous or stunning I don't pay enough attention to it so I don't ever think about doing a list like this Take Me Apart and Melodrama are both really good tho

KRIT had a quality comeback this year but not much attention towards him either. Hope u enjoy the playlist In around a couple of hours I should be ready~

Sometimes Album covers make me want to take a peek at the album if the aesthetic is really pleasing.
theblackestday Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 We have quite a different taste in artworks World Eater is probably my favorite cover here Take Me Apart's grew on me I LOVED Melodrama's initially, but it's linked to a horrible album so that kinda ruined it for me.
Same Ol' Mistakes Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 I'm intrigued by Mono No Aware. What is it exactly? A compilation?
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 30, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 30, 2017 Melodrama slaying
Tom Vercetti Posted December 30, 2017 Author Posted December 30, 2017 Before I do albums, just like last year i'm going to save my HMs list and reveal it before the top 10 just to keep the audience guessing.
Tom Vercetti Posted December 30, 2017 Author Posted December 30, 2017 75. Washed Out - Mister Mellow (Chillwave) Spoiler A four year wait for a sub 30 minute EP disguised as a LP was quite the tradeoff huh. I get he was busy and had a new family to attend to but still. I'm not going to be too harsh on him because he did give us a visual album along with this and the music is still good. As a summer release, it worked in temporary ways of setting that laid back mood. I wish some tracks were of course longer than they are as moments where i'm getting into it, it just ends and on goes the next track. If you're looking for a quick lush time, then Mister Mellow is your man. Highlights: Floating By, Hard To Say Goodbye, Get Lost, Million Miles Away 74. Chris Stapleton - From A Room: Vol 1 (Country) Spoiler As I mentioned in my song countdown, Chris is one of the better Modern country acts. From A Room Vol 1 isn't as expanded as Traveller but I feel satisfactory matter is near equal, if not as much. I like his songwriting and his voice offers both soul and passion. It's a short enough album too for those who aren't really into Country to potentially be invested in. That's one of the perks of your album only having 9 tracks at regular length. Highlights: Broken Halos, Second One To Know, Without Your Love 73. Freddie Gibbs - You Only Live 2wice (Hip Hop) Spoiler Freddie Gibbs surely had a lot to say after being a free man when his career and reputation was at stake. You Only Live 2wice is just a solo quick project with the intent on laying down his own personal statement from his recent experiences that he ain't going anywhere. It doesn't hold as much impact as Pinanta or Shadow Of A Doubt as the latter projects obviously sounded more complete. but 2wice still has some heat and it was a good sign of it being released cuz I was slightly worried for him last year. Highlights: 20 Karat Jesus, Crushed Glass, Homesick 72. Nick Hakim - Green Twins (Psychedelic Soul) Spoiler I can't exactly describe Green Twins as just neosoul because the amount of neo-psychedelic elements that are present throughout the album, which gives the album a hint of trippy vibes, are too apparent. As interesting as the album cover is, it does give a slight idea of what the soundscape will be like. The mix is interesting and when properly executed, it can provide an eccentric experience. Highlights: Bet She Looks Like You, Roller Skates, Cuffed, Slowly 71. Call Super - Arpo (IDM/Ambient Techno) Spoiler Arpo contains some warm and enjoyable textures along with occasional jazz pieces. Small details like nature chipping on the track Music Stand gives the album a relative scenic touch. Overall pretty comfy. Highlights: Korals, Music Stand, Arpo Sunk, I Look Like I Look in a Tinfoil Mirror 70. Allie X - CollXtion 2 (Synthpop) Spoiler CollXtion 2 is concise in sound with its 10 track arrangement. Even though I enjoyed the first half much more than the 2nd half, the album still delivers overall. Highlights: Vintage, Need You, Casanova 69. Julie Byrne - Not Even Happiness (Contemporary Folk) Spoiler A calming mood setter where it's best to just sit in and let Julie soothe you with her voice and the ethereal production. Highlights: Natural Blue, Sea as It Glides, I Live Now As A Singer 68. Moses Sumney - Aromanticism (Art Pop) Spoiler Like everyone else who's commented on this album regarding genre, there's not a singular approach when it comes to Moses. His unique vocals and various instrumentation usage are Aromanticism's high points. I'm not that familiar with his past EPs but I believe this was a solid debut. Highlights: Don't Bother Calling, Quarrel, Lonely World 67. John Maus - Screen Memories (Synthpop) Spoiler In terms of songwriting, this is notably weaker than his past efforts, but I can't deny those ear pleasing synth productions in combination with his successful use of reverb & basslines. His sense of Dark Humor still lingers on tracks like Pets (luckily I don't have any pets of my own atm). There's some ideas that seem unrefined but overall Screen Memories is inoffensive and a bit of fun. Highlights: The Combine, Touchdown, Pets, Bombs Away 66. Your Old Droog - Packs (Hip Hop) Spoiler Your Old Droog is an NYC MC whom often gets compared to either Nas or The Game (I feel the latter is slightly more on the nose). Packs offers appropriate features ranging from old heads (edan) to seemly high profile (Danny Brown) to fellow nyc locals (Wiki). The radio skits it contains also give the LP some small breaks. With slight help from The Alchemist and 88-Keys, the old school production gives Packs the character it needs for Droog to spit his verses. I also give respect to any current rap artist who uses Frank Zappa in his samples Highlights: G.K.A.C, Bangladesh, Grandma Hips, Help

Vxspertine Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 Didn't like the Allie X album or the Nick Hakim album tbh. Idk both just didn't do anything for me Aromanticism
ATRL Moderator Unoriginal Posted December 30, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 30, 2017 I listened to CXII once and it was nice. I was going to go back to it but
theblackestday Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 Surprised to see the Allie X album in your list Really liked Green Twins and Not Even Happiness, pretty fair placements.
Vilppu Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 I liked Moses and Julie but top 70 is fair. Allie snatched me on first listen, was just alright on second and on third it did absolutely nothing for me
