Sunderland 4ever Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Albeit Hypnagogic Pop, Homeshake's album was one of the few of the genre I couldn't get into this year. Enjoyable Thundercat and Priests' songs.
Nhevi Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Your taste is amazing. really interesting list, can't wait for more.
TheWayWeWere Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Systemagic SLAYS it's like old -Goldfrapp with some fresh elements

Tom Vercetti Posted December 22, 2017 Author Posted December 22, 2017 65. Majid Jordan - OG Heartthrob (Alt R&B) Spoiler One of their more interesting productions and immediate standouts from their sophomore album. Sonically, it made sense to follow after Gave Your Love Away since it has an extra kick in the Bass sound. 64. Sufjan Stevens - Wallowa Lake Monster (Indie folk) Spoiler I can see why he left this out of Carrie & Lowell but it still carries some effects that would've occurred from a C&L listening session. Beautiful instrumentation as per usual, with a pleasing melody reminiscent of C&L. 63. Oxbow - Letter Of Note (Noise Rock) Spoiler Oxbow sits between noise rock and Avant Garde. The first four minutes seems standard but then when the last couple of minutes takes a dissonant and haywire'd path introducing orchestral elements. This track is intended to be disorienting and they get the job done. 62. Octo Octa - Fleeting Moments Of Freedom (Wooo) (Deep House) Spoiler An optimal club juggernaut 61, Hoops - Rules (Indie Pop) Spoiler Short and effective.I love their drowned out lo-fi vocals along with the song's uptempo guitar sound. 60. Washed Out - Floating By (Chillwave) Spoiler The fact that this is one of the fully fleshed out songs Washed Out provided us this year gives me enough reason for praise. Ernest Greene does his best to lay out that dreamy soundscape and Floating By is an excellent example imo. There's also the small details such as lyric content about daily depression that's worth paying attention as well. 59. Father John Misty - Pure Comedy (Piano Rock) Spoiler I identify Father John Misty as a person you either hate or love. There's moments where he can get his points across about the current or past states of society in an efficient manner and there's also moments where it feels to be dragged on for too long. Fortunately for Pure Comedy, it's more on the former scenario for me. I'm typically not a ballad fan but I like the musicality (the melody, percussion, sax solo) of the title track and believe it's the star of the show. 58. Algiers - The Underside Of Power (Post Punk) Spoiler Highly energetic and uptempo for them. The main charm of Algiers is typically the mix of fronted gospel like vocals and energy with post punk aesthetic. They pull it off well.
Tom Vercetti Posted December 22, 2017 Author Posted December 22, 2017 57. Alex G - Sportstar (indie folk/alt R&B ) Spoiler Sportstar is a special track from Rocket that makes me feel a type of way Probably because it channels the Blonde persona of Frank Ocean through the use of vocal distortion and the production. I can understand how this isn't friendly for everyone but I believe that it stands out from what could've been yet another general sounding indeh-folk tune. 56. Protomartyr - The Chuckler (Post Punk) Spoiler I guess I'll keep on chuckling'Til there's no more breath in my lungsAnd it really doesn't matter at allHa ha Ultimately contains some of my favorite lyrics from them. 55. Sampha - Kora Sings (Alt R&B) Spoiler The Kora instrument at work along with the drum activity and electronic elements gives this uptempo track such a flare. Besides that, Kora Sings being dedicated to his Mother gives some sentimental value along with it. 54. Ariel Pink - Feels Like Heaven (Hypnagogic Pop) Spoiler A neat mixture of dream pop & shoegaze 53. Charlotte Gainsbourg - Deadly Valentine (French House) Spoiler Those dreamy vocals sits comfortably well on the ears no matter the language and the disco production to boot is a bonus. 52. Toro Y Moi - Mirage (Synthfunk) Spoiler Chaz goes Retro Funk. A refreshing take from him and i'll take it 51. Freddie Gibbs - 20 Karat Jesus (Hip Hop) Spoiler When you make the hardest song on the album/ep the very first track. Wish the rest followed suit but with Gibbs just being free after being falsely accused of sexual allegations, he had to lay it all out from the beginning.

Sufjan did a lot this year despite not releasing his own official studio album with Planetarium, outtake mixtape, the movie soundtracks. Tonya Harding. A lot to choose from. Let's just say I loved fjm more from the Honeybear days. Washed Out should've labeled his project as an EP. Less than 30 minutes and it would've made more sense.
jose168 Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 The Underside of power and Feels Like Heaven Floating By is a tune too
Vxspertine Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Ugh, those last few minutes of Letter Of Note
