110.  Feist - Pleasure (Indie Rock)

Pleasure_-_Feist.png

Spoiler

It's my pleasure
And your pleasure
It's my pleasure
And your pleasure

With Pleasure, I'm fond of how raw it sounds yet still enticing through her stripped back vocals & guitar play throughout the song.

109. Alex Cameron - Running Outta Luck (Synth Pop)

2130642.jpg

Spoiler

Cowritten by Brandon Flowers, it's an optimistic track to brighten the day.

108. Jesca Hoop - Pegasi (Indie Folk)

jescahoop_cvr_sq-c6dc7954fa423c74b50d631

Spoiler

Jesca's voice is most pleasant for me on Pegasi and that acoustic guitar is such a charmer. It has a slight Joanna Newsom appeal and  I love the melody in the chorus.

107. Clark - Catastrophe Anthem (IDM)

e94a7804.jpg

Spoiler

I'd say this is one of Clark's most ambitious songs to date, with the manipulated children choir giving the track a sense of being in a simulation.

106. SOPHIE - Ponyboy (Bubblegum Bass)

bd66fecbb4d1dfdc3172694348821575.800x800

Spoiler

I've expressed opinions on my general dislike of her past solo material but for some reason this really bangs. Guess she found the right beat this time. I hope she serves more of this aggressive industrial style.

105. Clap! Clap! - Ode To The Pleiades (UK Bass/Footwork)

889326826170.jpg

Spoiler

When the piano kicks in :'( I appreciate the storytelling/progression that's going on. Not every track needs lyrics to infer a journey that's occurring.

104. Richard Dawson - Ogre (Freak Folk)

46426c79.jpg

Spoiler

An engaging singalong anthem for those days you're in the woods and want to communicate with outlanders.

103. Big Thief - Mythological Beauty (Indie Rock)

eba85297.jpg

Spoiler

Adrianne's story telling of her near death experience as a child along with her relationship with a rather young and troubled Mother is impactful and well done imo.

What you don't like SOPHIE's solo songs??

the only bad one is It's OK to Cry...

102. Open Mike Eagle - Happy Wasteland Day (Underground Hip Hop)

1315fb11612fb5f60b6d501dd01d4496.700x700

Spoiler

Always here for Mike. His chill delivery over the synth-y beat goes well with the song's theme of how messed up events are occurring and becoming normalized while fantasizing about no violence and corruptness in our society.

101. Benjamin Clementine - God Save The Jungle (Artpop)

220px-I_Tell_A_Fly.jpeg

Spoiler

The Baroque production sets the mood and really fits his singing approach. There's references of areas he's not native to as being The Jungle.

100. N.E.R.D & Rihanna - Lemon (Hip Hop)

lemon.jpg

Spoiler

As a Navy at heart, there was bound to be at least one Rihanna track on my list and her authentic charm that oozed from ANTI continues on with her fun and irresistible rapping on Lemon. It took a while to like this, since Pharrell's production tends to be grating at times along with extra. Besides those minor detractors, Lemon is amusing and best believe that wihout Riri, we wouldn't be seeing this chart on lists or billboard for that manner :fan:

99. Brent Faiyaz - Talk 2 U (R&B)

sonder son_brent faiyaz.jpg

Spoiler

Talk 2 U is the early 2000s R&B throwback that we need.

98. Laura Marling - Next Time (Chamber Folk)

semper-femina-5.jpg

Spoiler

This year i've been really into Laura's material and Semper Femina has satisfied me. The things I love about this song in particular; the strings and acoustic guitar combined with her delicate voice

97. Four Tet - Two Thousand and Seventeen (Downtempo/Microhouse)

a2586093619_10.jpg

Spoiler

I haven't seen this song get much attention but it has that mellow/relaxed soundscape that's helped me get some studying done.

96. Queens Of The Stone Age - Feet Don't Fail Me (Rock)

980x.jpg

Spoiler

One of the few standouts from their latest offering, I believe this would've been the perfect lead single for them. It has undeniable riff sections and the way the track builds up at the start is worth the wait for when that groove kicks in.

I wasn't a fan of the sound at the time. I legit tried Product since people were raving about it but I either didn't get it or it just wasn't for me, idk.

This is bringing back some 2015 memories. Haven't been reminded of this in a long while, but strangely it sounds less grating than I remember. I still wouldn't play this voluntarily.

I've been following the one entry per lead artist thing the entire time (even mentioned in the op) so yeah. it was like that last year too but Rih charted much higher obviously with her own material.

Love Ode to the Pleiades and Ogre, although the latter is one of my least faves from Peasant :celestial5:

There's only a small amount of Bubblegum bass/pc songs that I like. I'm not really into that kind of music in general.

Idk about YE lists but i've been seeing quite a few mentions around here actually, just not this particular song.

Pleasure and Mythological Beauty :alexz: Running Outta Luck and Ogre were also v good :clap3:

I liked Ponyboy at first but I've eventually come to conclusion that it's too predictable for her. Even though IOTC was a trainwreck, at least it was different while this could be also named Generic SOPHIE Track #14 :rip:

Catastrophe Anthem :jonny: Peak Magnetic is my fave tho

I put off listening to Brent's album for awhile because of the ****ty people he's grouped in

but it was actually decent. I'm not the first to say it but he reminds me of Donell Jones lol

I hated IOTC and it actually made me cautious of checking Ponyboy out at first :rip:

Now that we're in the top 100 category, more familiar songs should start to appear as updates move forward. (but this really depends on the type of audience).
