Vxspertine Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Take Me As I Am I was pretty late with it specifically aswell, but whew A SONG Junky I agree with everything you said about it and I agree that SII is their best
theblackestday Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 I forgot about Chariot's existence for a moment nnn. I love it, they delivered Take Me As I Am is the best song on RINA so Sober II is also a Melodrama highlight for me so List of People Walk Like a Panther
Vilppu Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Sober II I rarely see people talk about it but it's definitely a Melodrama highlight. Also loved Little Dark Age, List of People, Take Me As I Am and Chariot.
Tom Vercetti Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Funny thing is, Little Dark Age wasn't that immediate for me. Took time to appreciate. Take Me, Sober II and Walk Like A Panther are all nice but those artists have better. Floating Points I think Kelso Dunes was the centerpiece of the album.
Eeveelution Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Yeah you spilled the t about Fadhouse. It would be cute if someone else released it, but Devotion is one of the best albums of all time and this kinda sound is just.. not what I want from Jessie. Die Young and Take Me as I Am are my faves from the HMs!

ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 18, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 18, 2017 I was kinda disappointed in Blondie's stuff but I'm glad they're still at it and doing new things. Take Me as I Am Really glad I didn't listen to Tame Impala this round!

Honestly I wasn’t a massive fan of their whole album but I wasn’t really expecting anything of a comeback album from a band that peaked in the 70s lol
ColdKeane Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Each Time You Fall In Love it's a beautiful song Beach House + MGMT :
Chemical X. Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 I've never been a stan but The Cure is immature and beneath her. Just a waste of everyone's time.
Mark Rih Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Sober II is the only song I really like from Melodrama. love List of People too!

volition Posted December 18, 2017 Author Posted December 18, 2017 Top Songs of 2017: 100 - 91: 100. Power Corrupts - St. Vincent This deluxe track from Masseduction I overlooked initially, but I actually prefer it to a lot of the album's material. It's basically an alternative version of the track Masseduction's instrumental but with the singer Toko Yasuda singing in Japanese, building on the 'seiken fuhai' hook of the original track, but the instrumental is now more bouncy and has different guitar work. I also just like the placement of the hook in the middle of the original chorus, where it falls time-wise. Spoiler 99. Neptune - Sufjan Stevens, Nico Muhly, Bryce Dessner & James McAlister The opener to the huge, worldly Planetarium album is subdued and beautiful. I love how the melody rises and falls in the beginning, before Sufjan goes into his falsetto. It really sets the tone for the rest of the album and even though it's not that long, it's one of the most affecting moments of the album. Spoiler 98. PONYBOY - SOPHIE It's Okay To Cry was fine really, but this is what I want from SOPHIE. This brings back vibes of the Product-era songs and it bangs, doing the typical bubblegum bass thing. The backing vocals that come in for the second half are pretty cool. I hope SOPHIE continues to make music along these lines. Spoiler 97. Proud - (Sandy) Alex G Many people are pointing out Bobby as a highlight from Rocket, and I agree, although personally Proud is up there as well. I love the instrumentation and the lyrics of the song are great and quite interesting. Spoiler 96. Selfish Love - Jessie Ware I felt this was the best song from Glasshouse, because it was an area that Jessie had not yet ventured into. The melody is gentle and the bossa nova feel makes the song light and fun. I might actually prefer Egoista, but either way, this is a great song by Jessie and the main highlight of the album to me. Spoiler 95. We Find Love - Daniel Caesar This is a very lovely traditional R&B song, moved along mainly on piano chord changes, some drums, and a backing choir. It conveys a beautiful sentiment though, and it is sung really movingly by a talented and expressive vocalist. Spoiler 94. Bijoux Boy - Lone Taxidermist This is a definitely quite an interesting song. It's a pop song but it's definitely not conventional. It's part of a very distorted pop album called Trifle which is one of the highlights of the year, and I'm including this song as an example of it because I think best represents the album. The chorus is basically just ehehehehehehehehEHH. Spoiler 93. XXX. FEAT. U2. - Kendrick Lamar XXX. is definitely a highlight of DAMN. to me. It starts out lowkey before Kendrick goes into rapid-fire mode about what he'd do if something happened to his family. The U2 feature is real classy and unforced, and then Kendrick comes back with a calmer, more politically charged verse. He addresses a lot of essential stuff here. Spoiler 92. Drugs (feat. ABRA) - Charli XCX I really like Charli, and although Number 1 Angel wasn't amazing, it definitely had some standout songs, Drugs being one of them. Comparing your lover to a drug dealer isn't particular uncommon but Charli elevates the song with her personality and the ABRA verse. Spoiler 91. Hot Thoughts - Spoon The best song on Spoon's album, this probably should've been higher on the list and it was earlier in the year, but maybe I've overplayed it or recency bias has got in the way. The instrumentation is really great, with the guitar lines and the start/stop whooshes that come in and out. It's so catchy, and some moments such as after the choruses are really euphoric. The main hook "Hot thoughts are in your mind, all of the time", whether it's the lyric or its melody, sounds pretty perfect. Spoiler
Vxspertine Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Ponyboy, a BOP Proud was one of the better tracks on that album XXX is great, a highlight on DAMN for sure. Drugs and Hot Thoughts were decent Didn't really like the Bijoux Boy project and didn't listen to the rest
grandewhispers Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Sober deserved to make it's way onto the list
