This set is especially painful because these 3 albums had a big impact on my year, yet

they all missed the top 5.  But oh well, the competition was tough this time around.

 

 

08. Paramore 'After Laughter' [[Incredible]]

We LOVE a band that can pull off so many different sounds! After Laughter is just further proof that Hayley

and ha bandmates are truly incapable of releasing bad music. The only mentionable flaw is the filler "No Friend", which

I luckily don't count as an actual song, as it probably would've caused the album to get kicked out of my top 10.

07. Kesha 'Rainbow' [[Incredible]]

A fantastic comeback that was worth the 5 year wait! Fortunately, Kesha is still the same girl we know and love,

just more mature, and with a lot more to say. She took the horrible situation she was trapped in and made it into

amazing music, some of which being her best yet, and I couldn't be happier to see her back to doing what she loves.

But... speaking of fillers, did we really need another cover of "Old Flames" on here? Thankfully it's much more

tolerable than Paramore's "No Friend", but Rainbow actually would've been #4 on my list without it - just saying!

06. Bleachers 'Gone Now' [[Incredible]]

Fun fact: If I only listened to this album once, it would've stayed at around #30 on my list, and now it's #6... yes, it was THAT

big of a grower. This is easily the most interesting release I listened to in 2017. The production style has tons of layers to it, and

it's one of those albums where you hear/learn/feel something new with almost every listen. Whether it's a new instrument in the

background, a lyric that references another song, or details that add to the story. Gone Now certainly isn't for everybody, but I'm

very glad that I discovered it and didn't ditch it after my first play.

05. Taylor Swift 'reputation' [[Incredible]]

This is the first time a Taylor album has missed my top 3, but that definitely doesn't mean it was weak! On my

first listen, I was actually slightly (and I do mean slightly) disappointed, though songs started growing on me

almost immediately. What started as my least favorite from her discography now rounds out my personal trinity.

My bottom 3 tracks could use some improvements, but everything else really shines. I love the mix of "old" and

"new" Taylors, there are some very strong highlights from both sides. It's great to hear her maturing and going in

new directions that we never imagined her doing, and also being HAPPY AND IN LOVE!!!!111 <3<3,#<3,#<3,#<

04. Foster the People 'Sacred Hearts Club' [[Incredible]]

In 2011, their debut, Torches, missed my top 5 by 1 spot. In 2014, Supermodel landed in my BOTTOM five,

and I just assumed they were never going to bounce back from that... turns out, Sacred Hearts Club is their

best work yet - and I never saw it coming. They took a more ~experimental~ route with this one, introducing

plenty of new sounds they never tried out before, while mixing that with what we've already heard from time

to time. The album flows super smoothly, there's standouts all over the place, and I typically don't care for

interludes but they were incredibly well utilized here. Nothing bad to say about this one.

03. Harry Styles 'Harry Styles' [[Incredible]]

With One Direction, without One Direction... doesn't matter. Harry was always my favorite in the group,

and that hasn't changed now that he's on his own. Harry gives up the boy band tunes for a more vintage,

folk-rock approach, and the sound fits him incredibly well. I'm not even a massive fan of this genre but

when it's done right, I love it - and you bet your ass he did it right. There's also something about it all that

just feels so... effortless? Like he walked in the studio, finished this up and tossed it out to us. Whether

he continues this or goes in a different path, I couldn't be more intrigued for the follow-up.

02. Allie X 'CollXtion II' [[Incredible]]

This is what I love about discovering a new artist. Before 2017, I never heard of Allie X in my life.

Then I finally delve into her music late in the year, and she not only snatches my wig, but almost the

biggest category of my Best Of! CollXtion I was amazing enough, then its sequel goes two times harder.

There's no song on here that even comes close to being bad. My bottom 3 may consist of all the slower

tracks (sans Downtown), but they still add substance to this project. Obviously the 6 bops on here are my

favorites, she snapped EXTRA hard on those. If there's a CollXtion III coming, I'm gonna need to evacuate.

01. Lorde 'Melodrama' [[Phenomenal]]

Congrats, Lorde! This is probably the 100th well deserved #1 you've gotten this Best Of season.

I don't really know what to say about Melodrama that hasn't already been said. It's a modern masterpiece,

overflowing with standout tracks, represents a whole generation (yet again), and is incredibly close to being

flawless in my eyes. My current rating for this is a 98.5%, which would easily be enough to rank in my top

3 of all time if I made a list for that. The writing and production (with help from Jack Antonoff) are also fantastic

and there's so many highlights from both. Lorde herself isn't the star of the show here - it's everything,

including her vocals, mixing together to create a wonderful piece of work that should be hung in The Louvre.

Thanks to all for yet another amazing Best Of season!  After Rem-embering 2016 I said that it was

my greatest Best Of yet and I have no idea how I'll top it... and I still stick to that.  I'd love to continue using tables

and stuff but it's just way too complicated on the new site. Even my more simplistic layout this year was still kinda time

consuming, so I suppose this'll be how I do it from now on. At least I improved on one thing, which was doing better at

commenting on other threads. I was definitely more dedicated to that, mainly because I decided to only post if you posted

on mine, so there were less to check out. There are only 2 main complaints I have: 1.) I had an 11-day vacation that

consisted of very little free time, so that was a big disruption. 2.) When I returned, this section was EXTRA empty.

i know this happens every year after New Years passes, but it was especially bad this time around. Shoutout to

everyone that didn't abandon me even though they wrapped up their own ceremony.  Also, shoutout to everyone

that checked my thread out in general! Thanks for your support, even if it was only for a brief period of time.

Another year, another obvious decision - REMEMBER-ING 2018 will be starting this December, as usual.

Last year I said that I don't plan on changing much (then I added categories, took away some and scrapped a lot of

graphics), but I can say that I DEFINITELY am not planning on changing much dd. Though I went in a more minimalist

route this year with my presentation, I'm satisfied with how it turned out. If anything, I might add and/or remove a category
