Temporal Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 2017 was a hell of a year, wasn't it? At times, it felt more like a decade, with the 19 blissful days of the Obama presidency that we had left feeling like one hell of a fever dream. On a personal note, it was quite an eventful year for me. I nabbed a music based internship with the tech start-up Musx (whose new platform launches soon!), dabbled in concert photography, turned 21, and the most iconic thing of all, I studied abroad in London, backpacking across a dozen countries along the way! I've learned a lot about myself and the world, and I've still got so much more growing to do, which I wouldn't have thought just two years ago. Beyond that sappy ****, music! My internship exposed me to so much new music and changed the way that I listen to it. Hitting play over 15,000 times this year, I've been listening to music now more than I ever have, and coming off of Best of 2016, I'm super psyched to get to do this again! Hopefully, I'll get it all done, since before Best Of ends, I'll be moving internationally, visiting three different states and writing over 20 pages of essays, what fun! This year will be more or less the same as last year, though I have a few little surprises in store as well. It's essentially a Billboard style year-end list based on chart performance (i.e., play counts), while the album chart will be a little more subjective! I'll be using the following format: 100 Most Played Songs 50 Most Played Artists 10 Best Albums Let the Hunger Games begin! I've Got New Rules!! 1) Songs from prior to 2017 may chart, but only in the Top 50 of the chart (a Billboard tea). Meaning positions 51 - 100 will not include recurrent tracks and songs, but positions 1 - 50 may. 2) Additionally, a song that was in my Best of 2016 will not be eligible for Best of 2017, because write-ups. I said what I said.gif already! 3) No more than four songs from an album may chart on the songs countdown.4) Remixes, live versions etc. all count towards the original version of a song (a Billboard tea).5) Albums will not be ordered by play count, but by my subjective analysis of quality.6) There may be other surprises along the way! Temporal Posted December 11, 2017 Author Posted December 11, 2017 PREVIEW BY THE NUMBERS 1. While by my count there were 31 indie tracks in my Best of 2016, this year, I was a bit more mainstream, with around 18 "indie" tracks this go around. 2. 3 songs will get a prestigious Diamond plaque at the end of the show, 2 more than last year! 3. The #1 track received 29 more plays than the #2. 4. The #1 artist clocked the #2 by 296 plays, poor iT! 5. Phallus wielders were outpaced this year as well, just 13 male lead songs made the Top 100. 6. However, 17 men make the Top 50 artists cut. 7. If I don't impose an album limit, one album, in particular, could see 11 songs on the chart (but I'm thinking about limiting it to 5 so we'll see )
